I know Ive come across information about this while browsing the DIY forum, however now that I'm looking for it I can't seem to find it :(. Anywho, I've made a bunch of first batches of ejuice and the flavor in most of them is GREAT, however, theres this harshness about them that I have to wonder if it is due to the alcohol in my flavoring? it tastes faintly of alcohol but has a really harsh TH, all but two of the juices I made have this quality to them, and they happen to be the two that smell the least like alcohol when I sniff the flavoring bottles. what is the best way to deal with this, is simply steeping going to do the trick? I read about some people boiling their flavoring before using it, but wouldnt that change the flavor?:?:

Leaving the caps off the bottles of flavoring for a day or so will help evaporate some of the alcohol off. Some folks do heat them but, I do not. Leave the caps off and shake them up (with cap on lol) several times throughout the day. You could do the same with the juice that has too much alcohol in them.

Good luck to you.

Alcohol will do that - the higher the flavoring %, the more the alcohol will be noticeable.

I am very skeptical of heating - could severely diminish or change flavoring. Cap off will do it, 1 day maybe 2 will do the trick - the juice will mellow over a few days anyway, if it has even the tiniest access to air.

There could be a few other factors affecting the harsh TH of your eliquid - either the alcohol content (which may be cured from exaporating), or might require some gentle heating, as the ethyl alcohol I use for extractions must be boiled off at above 80 degrees celcius. No flavor that has undergone heating under 80 gegrees celcius has ever changed chemistry or flavor profiles in my opinion....

Otherwise, the only other factors i can think of would be a too high %age of PG or too high %age of nicotine.

But with that said, set aside a small sample of the eliquid and do a heat test to see if it clears up some of the throat hit (assuming the simple shake and release-the-cap technique fails. Make sure when you heat the sample though you are not applying direct heat, rather a 'double-boil' (or more correctly, a 'double-simmer' since the water on the outside should NEVER be boiling at 80 degrees celcius) :)

Best of luck!!!

thanks, that is reassuring, it has been a few days since I mixed it, but I didn't leave the caps off of them, will be trying that :)

It hard to say what a DIY Recipe will taste like until it has sat for a few Days.

Also, if you are New to DIY, be sure to Test your Nicotine Base diluted down to what you Normally use mg wise.

I Battled with some recipes once. Couldn't figure out why they Tasted Harsh no matter how much Sweetener I used. Turns out it was the Nicotine Base I bought from a New Vendor.

I mixed a 80ml batch of 12mg juice, I used 70pg/30vg ratio, but I think I'll try 50/50 next time, then I split it up into 8 10ml bottles (I had 8 dif flavors) all but two of my flavors had this harshness.... I then later made some non nic juice for my husband who has taken a liking to vaping but has never been a smoker, same deal, i only made him 3 flavors, but the papaya in both nic and non nic did not have that harshness, yet the passionfruit and pineapple did have the harshness both nic and non nic.... this is what tells me it has to be flavoring related, in addition to the fact that the papaya and the kiwi lacked the harshness and also smelled less like alcohol than the other flavoring I bought

Some flavors/brands have more TH (harshness) than others. What brand flavors are you using, what are there carriers? Some flavorings use alcohol as there carrier, (i checked TPA website, and they don't for pin & passion, others may), but some flavors just have more harshness than others, that is the nature of what we are doing, these flavorings were designed for candy, not inhalation, this is largely uncharted territory.

Sometimes, if you use too much of a flavor it can get harsh, try cutting them back and see if it helps.

ps, the title of your thread is absolutely absurd, there is no such thing as too much alcohol, well unless you are planning on driving.... :p
