You can rebuild the coils that are used in the Kanger small tanks like the mini Protank or Evod. There are videos showing how on YouTube. I did it a few years back using 30 ga wire (I think this size) and the Peaches and Cream yarn from Walmart.
I rebuild Evod, Protank and T3S coils. Not hard. go to you tube and search for rebuilding protank coils.
I wick mine with cotton.

That's honestly probably my very 1st time seeing the IPV2 in a non-commercial style picture, and, I like it. I like it a lot. It looks a lot smaller than I had pictured it when seeing it in front of a stark white background on the different vendor's websites. wow. I like that thing. Do you think it's a good size for vaping out in the real world, in public? I have some smalll hands, so I like smalll mods. That's why I ruled the IPV2 out... but, it looks gr8 in that pic.
It's a fine mod. I have the black and the silver. (For clarification, you mentioned IPV2...it's an IPV D2.) I have other mods but use my D2 daily (primarily the silver one) for temp control with Titanium builds...it performs fantastic.

A newer version is out now...the IPV D3 which is a slight upgrade @80W, step-down in wattage mode, and more color options.

Sweet! This is exactly what I want!
You've got a plethora of options...just research then go for it! A quick note...some tanks offer both options of using factory prebuilt coils as well as a rebuildable option (such as the Subtank Mini for example, but it may be too wide for your liking). You may end up buying more than one RBA after your first one as you get more into rebuilding your own coils. Enjoy.

Wow! Thanks! You've given me a lot to think about here!

Once you get past the change from a long tube battery like the EGO and get used to a slim box mod life gets better. You get variable wattage and voltage, longer battery life, and a mod that fits in a pocket (or your purse) without being bulky. 3ml and 4ml tanks let you vape most of the day without refilling and that's a plus.

You might want to visit some brick and mortar vape stores and actually hold some mods in your hand and look at them with a tank installed. Pick from what strikes you as "the one" and go from there. Battery life dictates size. Small is good for some and others want long battery life. You also want something with a USB connector so that you can charge in your car. USB also lets you vape while charging.

You can save lots of money if you wind your own coils and make your own wicks. Once you do a few you will be able to wind a coil, screw it down, dry burn it, and wick it up in 10 minutes or so. Coils can last a month or two with a dry burn once or twice a week. Dry burning and changing a wick can be done in just a few minutes and is best done when the tank needs to be filled anyway. It all gets to be second nature in a short time.

Yup that's me! I have zero knowledge on this subject. I'm still an ego vaper...please no booing me! Im so tired of buying coils. I really really want to make my own but on the other hand I don't want a huge bulky ecig. Is there a happy medium somewhere that I'm not aware of? If I could wrap my own coils for my ego I'd be one happy girl. So what is the smallest ecig out there that I could build my own coils for? Not the shortest, but the skinniest. Thanks in advance!

Mini Buddha is 18 mm. The Kayfun and Orchid is 22 mm.

The Billow v2 is 23 mm.

My coils last 2 1/2-3 months. Remove fouled wicks every 2-3 days dry burn the coil install a new wick and off to the races in 2-3 minutes.

A coil is a coil and a deck is a deck. Small or big, you can screw it up on both ten times and not get it right.

Get a tank that you want that has features that you want and practise building coils on it.

Practise, practise and more practise. Even the best coil builders dont always get it right the first time on a new deck. Having proper tools is the most important part of building coils.

What no one has told you, is that building coils is the easy part. Wicking is the difficult part, so you dont get dry hits or leaks. Many tanks are temperamental and have to be wicked a certain way.

Making a coil is just wrapping a wire around a round object. Wicking, you have to think about Fluid Dynamics and how various viscosity juices will react to your wick. Its not as difficult as you think, once you put in the time and practise. Most important part, never be afraid to experiment, as you will surprise yourself when you discover a simple procedure to wick a coil.

Oh wow! I had no idea coils lasted that long. I assumed they had to be changed every time the wick was changed. Good to know! Thanks for the info!

In my RTAs I have had coils last 3 months.

When I used the Subtank Nano I was able to gently remove the wick from the OCC heads and rewick a coil for 2 1/2 months. That was with the horizontal coils. Vertical coil heads is going to be harder but not impossible.

I was not able to dry burn the gunk off the coil because that level of heat would melt the insulator.

Are you vaping a 70/30 blend?

what the HECK? in all my years, i have never heard of an atty shipping out RUSTY... does that mean that this thing isnt made out of stainless steel? that is absolutely absurd to me to even think about. WHAT!? RUSTY!?? no way...

the kayfun is perfect to sit atop an ego sized battery capable of sub-ohms for sure. i highly recommend it as your rebuildable tank atomizer. I do recommend that you practice rebuilding with a rebuildable DRIP atomizer (RDA for short) before moving to a rebuildable tank atomizer (RTA for short) as the tanks can be a bit more finicky. With an RDA all you need to do is wrap some coils around a mini screw driver and pull a small piece of cotton through. With tank rebuildables, you need to know how long you want your leads to be a bit better, and wicking is different, which means you'll want to learn wicking techniques, and Stainless Steel Mesh wick building, (rather than cotton) as well, for genesis styled RTAs at-least... I recommend you grab a cheap RDA and a kayfun lite for sure, though...

and as was said above, if you can get over the form factor of the 18650 tube mods, or the single 18650 box mods, then I would personally recommend that you skip the ego sized internal batt mods & go straight for the gold. you're going to wind up completely & totally used to the larger form factor within the next year or two anyway. (assuming that the FDA does-not take away our ability to buy mods and vape juice from open-market juice makers, gulp!)

While rebuilding can become quick and fun (I rebuild in 10-15 mins for the most-part) it can also be daunting when you are down to your last coiled RDA at an inoportune time, and you do not want to go through the paces. this is why i still recommend that you go with a tank like the Kanger Subtank Mini, which is capable of using replaceable coil-heads, and the RBA deck as well. good luck and enjoy your vaping journey.

I'm sure the chimney wasn't stainless, some sort of cheap extruded alloy, returned it got a couple of Ivogo KFM clones, much better quality.

Shopping around a little bit, will yield quite a few smaller atomizers. And as mentioned am 18650 tube can end up being pretty small as well.

Subtank Nano with the RBA head can be had for about $10, definitely don't have to spend big money to find something.

No idea if it was ever sorted or not but this is what mine looked like when I got it.. Rusty grimy, absolutely horrible, personally I'd run away.
It certainly sounds like you bought a cheap clone, and yes the Ivogo version is a decent clone.

You must be referring to the Mini because the RBA head won't fit in a Nano (unless there's a new version out that I'm not aware of).

Maybe the eGo One Mini could be what you're looking for. Supereasy to recoil, fancy appearance and really small (appr. 11 cm total). You'd only need some Kanthal A1 wire, some organic japanese cotton, a small drill or screwdriver at about 2.5 mm diameter and a simple resistance-meter, to go with it.

Thanks! That's a great idea. This is the way my sons ijust2 is set up. He can grab a replacement coil if we go out of town and he doesn't want to have to build his own.
