Hey All:

I've been lurking around here for a while & decided to finally register to join the fun. Anyway, I've smoked on and off for about 12 years, starting when I was in the military. I was a very light smoker, going through a pack every few weeks. Until recently, I only smoked about 2 packs/year (one cigarette a week, roughly). So why even bother with e-cigs, right?

But I like the hand-mouth motion (if that makes sense) and just the whole smoking ritual in general. However, I've always known it's a bad, unhealthy habit. I finally decided to give up analogs for good when a family member was diagnosed with lung cancer. But here's the thing: he never smoked in his life and is in excellent shape. When I heard about his diagnoses, it scared me to death. So I threw out a full pack of cigarettes.

I've known about e-cigs for a while and they've always interested me. But I'm still nervous that the nicotine in them can still cause cancer. From what I've read, nicotine itself is not a carcinogen (sp???). And I know there's not a whole lot of research and long-term studies on the potential hazards of smoking e-cigs. So I'm thinking of going to the lowest nicotine level possible. Like I said, I've never been a big smoker, but always enjoyed the way it made me feel.

So yesterday I bit the bullet, went to my local Walgreens and picked up a Blu starter pack. Yes, I've read all the negative things about Blu, but I've also seen some good reviews. Maybe I got drawn in by their slick marketing and cool packaging. I don't know. But I think they're a good place to start for someone like me. I also liked that they had a starter pack at a local store, that's a decent price (a little under $40 for 2 batteries, charging case, car charger, and 4 variety sample flavors). Last night I tried the vanilla and cherry. The vanilla is very smooth, sweet and leaves a good taste in my mouth (unlike analogs, ick!). The cherry was stronger and a little harsh. But I'll give it a second try.

Anyway, just thought I'd introduce myself. Sorry for the long post.

Thanks!

Welcome to ECF.
I had to remind you that second hand smoking also as dangerous as smoking itself. Your friend may not smoke but may be in a place others smoke. Also cigarettes are not the sole chemicals causing cancer. There is not any nicotin caused cancer as I know off but Nicotine is a serious poison. Must be handled with caution.
But, my friend there is 0 nic liquids too İf it is troubling you. Enjoy vaping

welcome to ecf while blu is good for what it is...a start into vaping kind of an in between from getting used to smoking to the way in which vaping really is....for those that were heavy smokers it was not the answer....however since you weren't much of a smoker it will probably be a great choice for you and help you fight your urge to smoke.

If you decide that it really is just not helping feel free to ask there are better pv's out there that help for new vapors (and even those that have vaped for years still use almost daily) are ego variable voltage spinners or twists bigger and better batteries than the cig-look-a-likes.

And yes although there is little known on the long term effects of vaping...the short term proof is undeniable! Sense of smell returns, copd lessened, tar build up in lungs gone, no more second hand smoke to plague those around you....the list goes on. The most notable short term would be this is so far by best the only thing out there to actually quit smoking and have control over your own nic intake higher, lower or none at all.
And eventually if you are thrifty and have self control (lmfao which most of us lack) will save you money.

I might eventually try the 0 nic liquids. The Blu starter set comes with the highest amount of nicotine they have. I'll just have to experiment and do more research.

When I asked my doc what she thought about e-cigs she said she didn't have enough information to say one way or another. Though she did acknowledge they help people quit analogs.

I've been looking into e-cigs specifically and vaping in general for a while now. There's a lot of cool stuff out there, it's very overwhelming. Thats what drew me to Blu, simple and very, very easy to use.

You're right, the short term of vaping is great. I always hated how cigarettes made my fingers and clothes smell. It also made me a little short of breath if I smoked a lot in a short amount of time. Not finding any of that with my e-cig. S far so good!

First off......CONGRATS on getting off analogs!!
Second....FWIW.....Blu's "HIGH" is 18mg, "MEDIUM" is 12mg, "LOW" is 6mg......and "0" is, well......ZERO!:D
Third.....I think you'll find, as a rule....physicians (in GENERAL....) tend to approach e-cigarette use with a "CYA" (cover your a--) slant.....presumably due to possible liability issues....Until more studies and testing has been done....there are still unanswered questions about "total safety" of vaping....the medical profession doesn't want to give a "green light" to vaping...only to have it come back at them later!! YOUR doctor's response to e-cigs would be considered "proper".....
Best of Luck to you!
Happy (vaping) Trails!
