I just recently won a bundle on the Treasure Chest thread to get started on DIY. I've read all the warnings, and skimmed the DIY guide. Though I feel a bit... overwhelmed. I wanted to ask if anyone had any advice before I start.

I plan to only try following recipies first off. That being said, does anyone have any good tobacco recipies? Such as a good pipe tobacco or marb. recipie?

Also, advice on the best vendor for tobacco flavorings?

Lastly, I am not 21. So I can not purchase vodka or everclear to thin vg out like I have read. I don't even buy isoprop. alcohol to clean my attys (not sure if this would work). Any advice on a good substitute? I would like to try making a couple 100% VG juices, since I haven't ever tried them. I will be getting more VG than PG with my winnings, so I think this would be helpful knowledge.

Any help is much appreciated. I know these questions have probably asked before, many times. I wouldn't have been ready to try DIY before. If it's not for me, then it's not for me. But I would like to give it a good try before I give up on it.

Tobacco, for experimental purposes, I like purevapes.com. Small sizes, fair price for the size, quick shipping and a great guy to deal with. If you find some you like, there are less expensive routes to go.

Might want to try Mellow Sunset, Maxboro, Virginia, Shade, and maybe Latika. I start at 5% and work up from there as the 1-2% doesn't work for me.

Mix at 0 nic for your first experiments. If you are using VG with tobacco flavors, letting them steep or doing a hot water bath will be very helpful.

The above is just an opinion based on where I think you are going. If you had phased your request differently then Cuban and Dark Vapure would have been at the top of the list as they are good cigar type flavors.

Thank you!!! I was still lost by the end of the night of where a good place to get tobacco flavorings from.

Since I'll be starting DIY I am up for trying all kinds of tobacco flavors. I didn't usually smoke cigars, but I did enjoy pipe smoking. So I will definantly keep these in mind. I've never tried a straight "Maxboro" flavor, so I thought I would attempt to DIY my own. But purevapes.com seems like my first stop on my new DIY quest.

Hey Mr.T,

DON'T use isopropyl alcohol in your mixes. It's not for internal consumption, period. Only use vodka or Everclear. Perhaps you know an older friend who could stop by the liquor store and pick up one of those little airline-size bottles for you, as a "solvent"... that would be enough alcohol to last you quite awhile.

I found that a few drops of alcohol in the mix helps, especially with VG-heavy mixes that tend to clog atties and cartos (as do darker tobacco flavors from what I read - I have no interest in trying to mix those myself).

Good luck!

My DIYs are VG only, with the only PG being in the flavoring. I thin with distilled water, about 10-20%, depending on the extent the flavor itself thins the liquid. My flavors are around 10% or even less, but that is a matter of taste. I make the %water + %flavor = 20% or about, since flavorings will thin too. For dripping I like a little thicker. For cartos, especially CE2s, I like a bit thinner.

I don't like alcohol of any kind in my juices, as it dries me out too much and makes me a bit woozy (I generally do not drink at all, so zero tolerance). I find distilled water makes the vapor moister, and the TH (good) from nic only, and the flavors I make are great.

I use Scubabatdan's e-juice calculator spreadsheet for calculating amounts...easy, accurate and fast. I also use syringes for measuring amounts of liquid...much more accurate than drops, the size of which varies with liquid viscosity.

DIY is great fun, and its so satisfying to make a juice for cheap that you really like, and you know exactly what is in it!

Try ecigexpress.com.... they have tons of diy stuff at solid prices. Personally I like Flavourart and Lorann flavorings the best. I like FA tobacco, they are all pretty good especially Cowboy and Cuban supreme.

Try this recipe for a good tobacco flavor.

2ml PG
1ml VG
6 drops FA cuban supreme
6 drops FA Vanilla
3 drops FA marshmallow
Nicotine of your choice

My other fav is...

2ml PG
1 ml VG
8 drops FA Cowboy
10 drops Lorann English Toffee
Nicotine optional

I thought this was correct, which is why I didn't think it would work at all. I figured if I couldn't drink it, I couldn't inhale it. I also know that I'm one of the few that still love tobacco juices. Doesn't make me want a analog at all, even makes me want one less. I have only one supplier I get my tobacco juices from so far, but I've loved them all. I've also heard dark juices in general clog attys up a bit more.

I was trying to avoid alcohol as well, simply because I don't think I get any premade juice with alcohol in it. I understand the difference in the viscosity of the liquids. I believe I'm getting 1 small syringe, and a few measuring pipettes.

Thanks, I'll keep your those in mind. When I went to check out pure vapes, FlavourArt was who they got their DIY stuff from. I ended my last bit of DIY research with the conclusion that they were the highest recomended (along with Lorann).

Thanks again to everyone for their help, I'm excited to get my stuff now. With DIY I realized I could make tiny batches of juice, and if I don't like it, I could always toss it or try to change it. Without feeling it so much in my pocket, or having to PIF something.

Let the mailman stalking begin! If it doesn't get here today, it's going to be a fun night Monday. I would love to mess with it this weekend though, so I could have some of my own juice to try this week.

Hey Mr.T,

Lots of flavorings are alcohol-based... And some vendors do use alcohol as a thinning agent in their nic bases.

Also, if you haven't discovered them yet, there's a new supplier who's carrying smaller sizes of several different companies' flavorings. You might want to check 'em out - they ship from San Diego. Flavors by EliquidStore Do a forum search for "Vista Chris" and you will find their ECF threads.

I'll be sure to check them out as well. I haven't ordered anything yet, I'm waiting to see what I get in my DIY bundle. Which she said she was sending 4 or 5 different tobacco flavors with it.

I usually get my juice from Backwoods Brew. Some of the flavorings may be alcohol based, but I don't believe Don thins his nic juice with it. Since it is usually a higher PG to VG ratio (I think most of them are 70/30) so I don't see why it would be needed.
