So I quit smoking cigars about 2 years ago, before that I smoked cigarettes for about 13 years HEAVY! Anyways here's the problem I'm having.

The janitor where I work is from Cuba, we chat all the time and hes a really good guy. He came to this country a few years back. In the beginning of February he went back to Cuba for 2 weeks to see his daughter, he told me that he would try to smuggle me back a Cohiba cigar (they are one of the best cigars in the world) Fidel Castro's favorite!

Well he came back to work today and he came in and showed me a paper back with 4 Cohiba cigars in it, and he got me two for a present. He wants to smoke one with me next Friday when he gives them to me.

I am at a loss. It's not everyday you get to smoke such an amazing real cigar, and he went through a lot of trouble to get these back to the states. I feel bad but I think i'm in a situation where I have to indulge and smoke a cigar with him. I don't want to even put smoke in my mouth any more.

What do you guys think? What would you do?

I'd smoke it, personally.

If you're dead set against the idea, you could gently tell him that you appreciate it, but that you have quit smoking, which was very difficult, and you don't want to risk starting up again. But if you honestly do want to do it considering the circumstances and the rarity of the experience, I don't think there is any reason to feel bad about it. One cigar would not negate the progress you have made in quitting smoking, in my opinion, especially in this case. It really depends on your true feelings about it…if you would only be doing it to avoid hurting his feelings and if smoking it would be unpleasant for you, it's probably not worth it. If you want to experience something you've never had before and always wanted to try (a fancy cuban cigar) and your concern about it stems only from the idea that it would be "bad" for you to do it or would somehow set the clock back on the very difficult achievement of quitting smoking and therefore might make you feel guilty and people think bad of you…screw that. The only person you really have to be accountable to is yourself. Good luck, whatever you decide.

I would light that baby up and puff away. Like you said, this is an indulgence, a special occasion. Since vaping already trumps cigar smoking for you I think you'd be able to appreciate the gift and the gesture without being tempted to start sourcing authentic cubans. I quit cigs for the most part but when I'm out drinking I'll bum a few smokes, it's somehow just more satisfying than a vape at times. And in the morning I still want my vape, not a cig.

I would pour me a glass of some kickin rum and enjoy that bad boy.

To many times people who start vaping unknowingly adopt an all or nothing outlook and forget that a small break isn't going to kill you.

We have to remember that it isn't about the one we smoke today it it about all the ones we didn't smoke yesterday

If you really feel that bad about it send it to me I'll smoke it for you lo l:laugh:

I don`t think you`ll get hooked on one, but thats just me.

I will also point out that more then a few non smokers enjoy a cigar every now and again.

I smoked cigars for 10 years, and I was always told by other more "affluent" people how good a Cuban was compared to my Nicaraguans, of course I wrote them off.
But If given the chance to have my own personal empirical proof, I think I would try it. Who knows? I may gag and put it out after a few puffs, LOL.

My wife and I made a pact when we started vaping. Every November when the time changed (that hour doesn't count, right?)we would go out on the patio and smoke a cigar (of course it wasn't Cuban). This was our 3rd year. Each year it has become less enjoyable...this year she put hers out right away and I barely managed to smoke 1/2 of mine.

Don't worry about that one cigar. If you enjoy it...well, enjoy it.

smoke it and enjoy it

You heard the man! It's a cigar, they aren't addictive like cigarettes. I don't mean to be a kill joy but keep your expectations low. Then if it's good, it will be a nice surprize. In the last 50 + years, the rest of the world cigars have improve quantumly providing a wide variety of nuances in flavor and taste. Cubans remain the forbidden fruit so their status has been elevated to mystical.

Smoke it, slow and easy, enjoy it... have some good rum with it, and some good conversation.

It's not like the tobacco monster is going to put you in shackles and drag you off to the dark side forever.

Get up the next morning and smile, remembering the experience, the camaraderie, the conversation with your buddy... while having your morning vape.

I have a cigar collection but rarely smoke cigars. If the opportunity came up to sit with some one for a few hours and enjoy a Cohiba from the Island I would do it. I smoke maybe two cigars a year and it is always a social event.

Enjoy and remember; I don't always smoke cigars but when I do they are ISOM,s (from the Island south of Miami). Stay thirty my friends.

Personally, I would smoke it with him, and enjoy. It seems that he thinks enough of you to bring a special treat that you have expressed an interest in trying. Enjoy the experience and the conversation. One or two good cigars is not going to undue your efforts. It is a nice gesture on his part, and I think you should show your appreciation.

I grew up in New York City (Brooklyn, to be exact). After I got married and moved to Ohio, where my late husband found a job after he left the Coast Guard, I remember complaining to my parents that I was having trouble finding a good deli, such as can be found on almost every street in Brooklyn, NY. One time, when I went "home" to visit, we went to my aunt's for lunch. She made a great effort to get Pastrami for me, since my mom had told her what I said about the local delis where I lived in Ohio. I hate Pastrami. Did I eat the Pastrami? Darned straight I did. I could even enjoy it, knowing that my aunt had made an effort to get something special just for me to enjoy.

Don't worry about a good cigar or two. Enjoy the experience and the company you keep. You will not dereail your vaping journey.

I am with others here who say smoke it and savour the moment.
I smoked roll ups for 30 years and definitely did not want to go back, but am now a non smoker who does not fear cigarettes, i could never go back to them.
but i do love tobacco flavours more so than when i smoked!
So if you do enjoy your cigar flavours still you might want to investigate NET tobacco liquids these are extractions from real tobaccos.
see: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...ussion/519685-natural-tobaccos-part-deux.html
And for making them yourself:http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/liquid-extraction-tobacco/
