Tried sub-ohming and maybe it's not for me. Interested in your thoughts.

Thanks for all the input everyone, really appreciate it very much!!

I'm definitely happy with my Nauti's and mini box mods, really enjoy it so I think that will remain my every day go-to for vaping satisfaction overall & staying off cigs forever, but I'm also keeping an open mind to at least trying other gear once in a while. I'd also to try real dripping with a real mech mod sometime, but it's not something that I feel a dire need for or plan on "switching" to and definitely not something I plan on investing in at this point. I think the glass tanks and mini mods are really practical for me whereas I don't see dripping as being practical for me at all personally. Based on the feedback I've received so far I feel like I'm in the right place with what I've grown comfortable with, and although I can tell there are a lot of people who get great satisfaction out of more advanced methods and subohming etc... I can also tell from what I'm reading that it's not something I need to jump into and as long as I'm happy with what I got then I'm not really missing out. Or at least, not missing the point of simply being happy enough that I don't care to smoke ever again. It's great that there are so many options out there and plenty of choices for all vapers. In the beginning it all seemed very confusing & complicated but starting to see that most of it is easy to understand with the natural progression of curiosity :)

A very low resistance single coil does not make much sense to me. I suppose it would make sense (or not matter) if I used a device that could regulate below 4-ish volts. Going sub-ohm for me is simply what happens when I use two of my standard coils in parallel rather than just one. But, I suppose if I would have gotten into the hobby aspect of vaping prior to the flood of high power regulated devices hitting the market I would be rocking a mech with a .2 ohm setup.

Am i the only one on here then vaping at 18 mg on a Alantis ? i don't vape it all the time though but have got used to it.
Seems a tad high for an Atlantis, or anything other than smaller rigs and tanks. Although I know some Reo users who still hit 18mg. I couldn't. I started a little over a year ago at 24mg, then upgraded from Egos to Protanks and an SVD and MVP. The vape was so much better I dropped to18mg. Not too long after, I got my first mechanical and learned to build coils also on a Kayfun lite plus, so bought my first dripper, an Igo-W4. I had to drop to12mg. Then, got my first Reo and was happy at one ohm or a little over. Once I tried dropping to around .5-.6, I loved it, but 12mg hit too hard and dropped to 6mg, which is where I'm at now. Sub ohm produces much more vapor, and not so much nicotine is needed. Sub ohming does have it's drawbacks. Way increased usage of juice, severely shortened vape time on a battery, and not conducive to mtl vaping if that's what you like.

Like dripping or high wattage sub ohming is something a minority enjoy and shout loudly about so seems more populous then it is that and the fact us higher resistance lower wattage vapers are too chilled out vaping to make a fuss

I don't know it that's much of the case anymore. While it might not be for everyone, if you look at which products are entering the market and which products most B&M's are primarily carrying now, vaping really seems to be transitioning into a higher watt market.

Even the giant vaping chain here in Michigan, Wild Bills/Mr Vapor is clearing out the majority of their lower watt devices and juice. They are selling eGo, low watt innokin devices and Kayfuns at 75% off and the stuff just sits on the shelf because everybody wants a 30w to 150w device and either a Sub ohm tank or an RDA.

pwheeler - wow that's a heck of a progression there!
I started out at 18mg on basic ego/evod and within 6 months I was down to 12mg, stayed at 12mg up until a couple months ago when I started mixing half 12mg with half 6mg to step down even further. Been at 6mg for a month now still using tanks and it's all good! (Not cheap tanks anymore of course - gone all glass/stainless - but still 1.8ohm and low watts). Can't even imagine 24mg. Starting at 18mg was even a bit strong for me. Really meeting goals and feeling good about being at 6mg already now.

I'm seeing that with the guys who helped me get started. Most of them are into mechs / dripping / RDA now. Probably a good thing I don't see them in person (I'm on East coast and long-distance friends on West coast got me started) otherwise I'd probably be doing the same and going through a fortune in juice by now lol!

It's really simple for me. If a piece of equipment requires direct lung hits to get the most out of it, be that toppers or batteries, I'm not interested. I see so many comments concerning straight to lung hits that have the caveats, "you'll get used to it"; "It took me awhile to get used to it"; "give it a chance", etc.

Nah, I'll never get used to it. Basically because I simply don't like it (for reasons I could get into, but are not really important).

I will always be a mouth to lung inhaler...no matter what vaping source I'm puffing on.

Just because the industry is in a watt race doesn't mean we will all go along if you were to add up sales of 50 watt and less devices I guarantee it will be hugely larger then for greater then 50 watt most people I know with 100-150 watt devices rarely go above 50 as it is but like the longer battery life or even just the design. There is going to be a place for lower wattage devices as long as vaping exists even ego types will continue for a considerable time as many vapers find those more then enough to satisfy them high wattage simply isn't needed for a satisfying vape. If safety and build quality had increased as fast as the watts I'd be cheering high wattage but it hasn't end of the day I've got two 50w devices never go above 25 now so I have no more interest but am glad the products exist for those who need more it's just not as big a thing as the industry or some users make out.

No, in reality almost 75% of the total e-cig market is still below 10 watts.

What we're seeing in the marketplace is low wattage vapors don't have to replace their gear often enough for there to be enough profit.
If a .75-1.25$ carto lasts a customer a month, how are they suppose to stay in business?

I don't find this to be comparable though because most cigalike users are buying Big Tobaccos products from convenience stores and still smoke cigarettes as well. Go into a vape shop though and the 10 watt or less devices are going extinct.

Every B&M I've been to in the UK still has a good ego type battery presence even the bad one's but it could be totally different in the US perhaps different cultures. Either way despite an endless stream of high wattage devices they are not the most commonly used devices by most vapers I don't have any problem with sub ohming at all just not my cup of tea.

Things are getting quite different here to the point where I'm even seeing stores remove PG heavy liquid as well as 18 and 24mg nic levels from their shelves. For instance, I've bought 30ml bottles of Halo for $10 because they are being liquidated.

Even a lot of these new juice companies aren't selling over 6mg and are making their juices strictly high VG.

@ Oberon are you saying they increasing the nic levels in the juices ? I can't do 24 but can cope with 18 mg strength. I was smoking anywhere between 20 + a day. I still not totally cut the analogies out but today I managed so far 3.

Everyone is different I was and still am a menthol smoker but obviously I cut right down 6 months into the journey. Also I'm in the UK so that could make a difference to my nic addiction.

We all are very different with different type of addictions and are on very different journeys the only similiaritys being we using E Cigs to cut down or kick the habit all together of analogues.

You're not alone CrazyNight. I did almost the exact same thing- went from the Nauty family and got myself an Aspire- even got the extra big tank, spare coils, and was all set up. Went as far as to getting a variety of of my favorite flavors in high VG varieties, some 6 nic, some 3, I spent a lot of money to try to find my sweet spot.

After a few weeks of making myself test it....I am just done. I doubt I even vaped a full tank on the thing between all the different varieties. I see the appeal, but it's just not for me. I've heard many others say the same. I actually think that I could make myself enjoy it more; but if it aint broke, why fix it. So yeah, maybe I'll be selling my Atlantis soon too.

Side note- I got the Peakomizer 2 as well, but the 22mm BVC version and it's amazing. If you do go back, might be worth at least giving yourself a bit of an upgrade so you don't feel completely SOL ;)

    +1

A lot of the fresher faces don't remember the original watt race started when China ran out of ideas for the tube mod battles and decided to 1 up evolve and the DNA 20, they so oversaturate the market with tube mods they had nowhere else to go and then they finally cracked the evolve code and figured out how to clone the dna, they then went after box mods which was a nitch market. Then as it always happens they started one upping each other.

While I don't doubt its popularity people don't realize all China has to do is see something, anything. gain an audience, no matter how small and they will run with it, how many versions of a kayfun are there now? Tthen, people realized they could brute force a ton of wire so they dropped gauges. To make bigger coils. Sub ohm wasn't the effect, it was the result stemming from big low gauge wires that already have little to no resistance anyways.

Somehow this got turned into the belief you have to subohm for clouds which isn't true, if you use thick wire you are forced into a low resistance naturally. And the only way possible to power that much cable is brute force 50+ watt mods.

Look up some of the older bakero wire videos and watch what you can do with simple ribbon wire on a mech no 100 watt mod needed as the ribbon can be wrapped at a more normal resistance range and still have more surface area then a fat coil of 24g

What's amusing is back in 13 I predicted pretty much this scenario, exploding mods , failing batteries and all, sure its still in my history somewhere, and people thought I was trippin.

And if you been fooled into thinking you need massive coils at .2 ohms running 60 watts for cloud chasing.
Ff to 15 min or so and check out the stupid clouds on a .9 dual coil ribbon build on a regular mech.

Over the weekend I went to a vape convention and just about everyone was sampling their liquids with some kind of sub-ohm tank. This was my first experience with them and let me tell you I did not like it at all. I kept burning the crap out of my lip cause they had them so high in wattage. I don't get why they think everyone should be doing this. Honestly there were quite a few older folks there with just plain jane set ups and I wondered how they all felt about those sub tanks as well. It was really not for me. I did have fun and got a ton of liquid I otherwise would have never bought, but those sub tanks are not the thing they should be using. IMHO

I never thought that I would get in to sub-ohm but I must admit I am now enjoying the kanger subtank mini 0.5ohm coils on my istick 50w at around 23 watts, great taste and vapour production doing direct lung inhales, again something I thought I would not do as I was a mouth to lung guy before I got the subtank.

I went to the subtank from the EMOW Mega as I was finding that on some of my juices the taste seemed to be muted and was not satisfying.

Strange what you can get used to in this vaping addiction !!

Since I'm a high frequency vaper I found that low sub ohm vaping just doesn't suit me. My lungs get all loaded up with gunk...

I stick with lung hitting at .8 ohms in my RTAs and pretty much leave the drippers for testing new DIY liquids--and I've even upped the ohms in them to .8 to 1 ohm dual coils.

Whatever works for you is what you should do!
