Just because the industry is in a watt race doesn't mean we will all go along if you were to add up sales of 50 watt and less devices I guarantee it will be hugely larger then for greater then 50 watt most people I know with 100-150 watt devices rarely go above 50 as it is but like the longer battery life or even just the design. There is going to be a place for lower wattage devices as long as vaping exists even ego types will continue for a considerable time as many vapers find those more then enough to satisfy them high wattage simply isn't needed for a satisfying vape. If safety and build quality had increased as fast as the watts I'd be cheering high wattage but it hasn't end of the day I've got two 50w devices never go above 25 now so I have no more interest but am glad the products exist for those who need more it's just not as big a thing as the industry or some users make out.
+1
A lot of the fresher faces don't remember the original watt race started when China ran out of ideas for the tube mod battles and decided to 1 up evolve and the DNA 20, they so oversaturate the market with tube mods they had nowhere else to go and then they finally cracked the evolve code and figured out how to clone the dna, they then went after box mods which was a nitch market. Then as it always happens they started one upping each other.
While I don't doubt its popularity people don't realize all China has to do is see something, anything. gain an audience, no matter how small and they will run with it, how many versions of a kayfun are there now? Tthen, people realized they could brute force a ton of wire so they dropped gauges. To make bigger coils. Sub ohm wasn't the effect, it was the result stemming from big low gauge wires that already have little to no resistance anyways.
Somehow this got turned into the belief you have to subohm for clouds which isn't true, if you use thick wire you are forced into a low resistance naturally. And the only way possible to power that much cable is brute force 50+ watt mods.
Look up some of the older bakero wire videos and watch what you can do with simple ribbon wire on a mech no 100 watt mod needed as the ribbon can be wrapped at a more normal resistance range and still have more surface area then a fat coil of 24g
What's amusing is back in 13 I predicted pretty much this scenario, exploding mods , failing batteries and all, sure its still in my history somewhere, and people thought I was trippin.
And if you been fooled into thinking you need massive coils at .2 ohms running 60 watts for cloud chasing.
Ff to 15 min or so and check out the stupid clouds on a .9 dual coil ribbon build on a regular mech.
