I got through the first three months of not smoking with very little effort and I give all credit for that to vaping. But there's something about the crisp fall air and turning leaves that makes me miss the sound and smell of a Zippo lighter and the warm, rich smoke of a Nat Sherman Cigaretello Filter or MCD. I started smoking habitually around this time 32 years ago and I guess I still associate the colder months (especially the holiday season) with the pleasure I used to get from a good smoke.

The temptation to buy a pack and allow myself to enjoy one "every now and then" has been great lately but why would I want to mess up three months of progress? I'm so glad I can grab a PV and puff away till the urge subsides; I don't think I'd still be a non-smoker right now if i'd tried to quit using any other method.

I will say this, though: if I ever find a juice and a PV that get me close to the experience of savoring a Nat Sherman on a crisp autumn morning, then I'll know that I'm truly done with smoking forever.

I will never give up the occasional fine cigar, especially during football season and over the holidays. It's a long standing family tradition.

I'm not worried about developing a habit with them, either. When you drop anywhere from $15 to $25 for a single stogie, it's not something you're gonna do several times a day.

Fall and football season are especially hard. I know exactly what you are talking about with the crisp air in the mornings. I used to enjoy that time the most with a cup of coffee and a smoke (or five.) I just kicked the habit a little over a week ago and it still seems to be pretty easy. Having all of the support on the forums as well as from my wife and friends make it easier.

Indeed. It's a little different with a cee-gar, though, since you're not inhaling. I ain't no doctor or nothin' but I'd wager that the health risks of enjoying an occasional stogie are very low compared to smoking even just a couple cigs per day.

Welcome to Vapeworld! If you ever find that the desire for real tobacco flavor is becoming overpowering, give naturally-extracted tobacco (NET) e-liquid a try before you give in to the urge to light up. No vaporized juice will taste/feel quite the same as burning leaves but you might be surprised at how satisfying it can be. I'm still looking for my "dream" NET (see first post) but I feel I'm getting closer all the time. Lots of discussion of NETs in this thread: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/general-e-liquid-discussion/274904-natural-tobaccos.html

For me I am not sure it is wanting to smoke so much lately as wanting to go outside especially in the mornings when it is actually tolerably cool now for the first time in months. By afternoon it is 90F again so the urge dies quickly. :)

Gotta love Louisiana Myrany.

Got that right ;)

Q: How do you know that's a Louisiana tourist at the beach?

A: They bring a $20 bill and a bathing suit and won't change either one!

It is nicer along the fruited Southern Plain this fall. The lack of any significant tropical activity is a blessing this year, too. The allergy season though... well...

One of my triggers was a dose of my allergy relief "package," consisting of two Alka Seltzer Cold tabs and about 557 Benadryls. For some reason, a smoke just seemed to taste better after the plop plop fizz fizz. I've gotten past that one now, too.

It could have been the perfect autumn weather, the strong cup of coffee or the (rare) good night's sleep, but I wanted a Sherman so badly this morning, to a point where I was seriously considering filling up my old Zippo and driving to the nearest tobacco store to buy a pack. This was without a doubt the strongest urge I've felt to smoke since my last cigarette in late June. I'm so glad I still have some strong-tasting 18mg juice (I vape mostly 12mg or less these days) 'cause with a few deep lung hits of that, I was able to ride out the urge.

The 'three' milestones seem to be the hardest. At 3 days off of cigs.....strong urge. 3 months off cigs....another kicks in. Or approximately thereabouts. I'm planning ahead and bracing for a three year. One year down, two to go.

Good for you on resisting! :vapor:
