On first examination I've removed the screw and the battery, so's to 'practise' reassembling in accordance with Toby's Manual in this sub-forum.

However, after re-inserting the battery "+" end first, the moment the screw touches its "-" end the atomiser starts sizzling.

My new Stick is sitting disassembled, awaiting advice.

MANUAL:

FEATURES
The JANTY STICK, a unique concept developed by JANTY®, is compatible with the most popular models of the pen-style ionizers. Adaptors for ionizers such as DURA, 901 or M401 will be available throughout 2009.

The JANTY STICK is powered by a 3.7 Volt 360 MaH rechargeable battery. The JANTY STICK also provides access to all functions with the enclosed mini USB cable. Connect the Mini USB cable to any power source (computer/ USB power outlet adaptor/ automobile adaptor) to charge the mini battery AND to operate the device at the same time!

SPECIFICATIONS
The JANTY STICK consists of a plastic body, a 3.7 Volt 360 Mah battery compartment, an ionizer compartment, an Intelligent microchip, a manual push button and a multi-color programmed LED light.

Dimensions:
Length: 7.5 cm
Width: 2.5 cm
Thickness: 1.7 cm

MANUAL
1. Installation of the special 3.7 Volt/ 360 Mah rechargeable battery
- Unscrew the male “cross” screw from the stick’s dedicated battery compartment using the top of your finger. Alternatively, use a small screwdriver to unscrew.

- Insert a 3.7 Volt/ 360 Mah rechargeable battery into the stick’s dedicated battery compartment according to the +/- connection: + on top and – at the bottom.

- Screw the male cross screw tightly on the stick’s dedicated battery compartment with the top of your finger until you can turn no further. Do not screw it too tight. Alternatively use a small screwdriver.

- If the LED flashes 3 times, the installation of the battery is correct; If not, please check whether the polarity of the battery is placed correctly and whether the screw fits tightly.

2. Inserting/detaching a cart
Plug: Plug a cart into the ionizer until it clicks. Screw the ionizer with attached cart into the stick’s dedicated ionizer shaft.
Unplug: remove the ionizer from the ionizer shaft. Unplug the cart by simply pulling the plastic cap cart out.

3. Installation of the ionizer
Carefully push the ionizer, with the plastic cap cart inserted, into the stick’s dedicated ionizer shaft until you reach the internal screw.

Gently screw the ionizer: hold and turn the plastic cap to screw the ionizer into the stick’s dedicated ionizer shaft.

Use the plastic cap cart as a grip to unscrew the ionizer from the stick’s body when needed.

4. Operation
When you push the button, situated at the back of the stick, a LED will flash a blue light. The stick is now in working condition.
When in use, the IC controls the functioning of the ionizer. The LED turns blue during normal operation.

6. The LED will turn red after 6 seconds into operation mode. The device is still working at this point. However, when the red LED flashes 10 times, the device stops working.
To continue operating the device, you must push the button again at the back of the stick.

5. Battery and Charging
In case the LED flashes 5 times during operation, you will need to recharge the battery.
Connect the stick to your computer’s USB port or any other power outlets with a USB adaptor (e.g. in your home or your automobile, such as the JANTY USB car adaptor) using the dedicated mini USB cable. After 1 to 2 hours of charging, the LED light will dim. When the LED light is dimmed, the battery is fully charged. Unplug the mini USB cable.
Alternatively you can charge the 3.7 Volt/360 Mah battery with a mini battery charger accessory (not included in the standard sets).

6. Replacing the cart
Replace the cart with a new one when consumed.

That's what I thought I was doing, I even took a magnifying glass to the battery to be 100% sure. Could that be re-written? I often want to tell manufacturers to send me their instructions in draft before publishing ;)

Only the dedicated components must be used,
Is this intended for me?

Scylla, what should be rewritten?

The dedicated parts is for all users: Do not use other types USB cables, it will fry the mini USB port, do not use other types batteries. Just stick to the Stick and what comes with it. Our batteries are dirt cheap, use them. If you need a USB cable ask us.

Is the Stick working now? Happiness?

I guess the confusion comes from what is top and bottom of the device, I guess possibly stating that + of the battery should sit at the open end of the compartment might be clearer. This sort of thing is often unforseen in manuals until us lot make our rookie mistakes!

I think Ludo was referring to parts used after my post about twisting the stomizer by holding the cart. He's right, the Janty carts I am using are nice and tight, the device was designed and built around genuine parts after all.

A longer usb cable would be great too;)
my computers usb ports are right at the bottom and seeing as it is under my desk I have to sit on the floor to vape when plugged in lol

LOL! I'd have the same issue, but I'm just disconnecting it when I want to use it. Vaping it for a bit, and then plugging it back in.

You got it, Andy :)

As for "happiness" - I'm in a state of shock. Someone who got theirs today said it's like breathing - quite right, there's no "pull" whatsoever and no hit whatsoever. Also, the body sits even closer to the lips than I had perceived from the videos. The shortness of the "stem" was something I commented on at first sight, but I didn't realise there was so little atomiser protruding from the body. I'm all shook up, I've put it away and am trying to recover and think what to do next.

Are there techniques for achieving hit? (Barring 5-second-plus drags.) Could cartridges be modified to achieve "pull"?

Please bear with me guys

Scylla,
Are you using the atomizer that came with the Stick? It took a while for the new atomizer to 'wake-up' and produce the hit I was expecting. Do you have other penstyle atomizers that have already been broken in that you can try? The draw is slight but should produce a throat hit. I've also gotten atomizers that are just weak performers. It think this is probably an atomizer issue rather than stick issue.

Just for the record there are automatic and manual versions of the stick.

Thank you, Frankly. I would give you a hug but you might be averse ;)

Yes, I am using the original atomiser. In fact, my generic penstyle atomiser is fatter than the Janty but the cartridges fit.

Me being of a somewhat nervous disposition anyway  I'm discombobulated  I've only had two or three puffs. I'll have another go... maybe I'll vape the atomiser like someone else has done.

I had been on the verge of getting a Dura-C and if I'd seen the feedback, like Druid's, in ECF I would've done (if only I'd learned how to make ECF threads behave earlier).

I have a generic atomizer that is a tight fit as well. It will fit but will take a little elbow grease to get it in and out. :)

What strength liquid are you using?

Don't fret passing on the Dura, instead you bought a big battery with a better switch that will allow you to just buy an adapter for any atomizer. I've got both and the dura batteries are sitting in a drawer gathering dust. Once the adapters are out you will be able to buy a throw away dura atomizer and make out much cheaper in the long run.

For the record, I do accept hugs. :)

My recent vaping habit has been to drip 50/50 36mg juice/VG with a little Lorann choc-hazelnut thrown in because I bought a 50ml bottle of Riskee and didn't like it  Just using up the last of it. Then I'll be on normal High Marlboro with VG because I got the Marlboro @ £23 for 60ml. I think that "smooth hit" is more important to me than nicotine, from previous experiments.

I'm not dripping or using any juice with the Stick, I don't want to do anything 'against the rules' at this stage. (With my 901 I don't use any cart stuffing, I just drip.)

In fact {{{{{{{{{{Frank}}}}}}}}}} 8-o you wouldn't believe the effect your kind advice has had on me, I'm now vaping away on my Stick with one of my generic carts and it's getting better.

Are you Frank C or Frank J?

I need a neck lanyard attachment now ;)

I vape a lower nic count and still get a throat hit so that shouldn't be the issue...

There are no issues with dripping on the manual version of the Stick. The atomizer compartment is completely sealed from the battery and there are no adverse effects from dripping with the stick. Ludo did warn against dripping with the automatic version but the manual is good to go.

Glad to hear it. Some atomizers have taken a while to wake up for me. Don't hesitate to use another atomizer that you like to use regularly, even if it is a tight fit.

Are you Frank C or Frank J?

FJ - that website really needs a refresh... Developing / selling iphone apps is tough but I am happy to report we are big in Holland. :)

I think Ludo said they were going to sell battery covers that had a ring attachment for your keyring or in your case a lanyard. :D
