Trustfire Grey 14500.jpg

Trustfire does have grey 14500's, but my Trustfire Flames last longer than my grey's.

I have been working on a 2xAA box with a booster and a single 14500. I have the greys and with no load I get the correct voltage, but under a load it pulls the voltage down to 3.3v.

I saw the other day breakthru posted the same project I had been working on with the black/red trustfire and his was working.

I have some high drains coming to try it out. I can't find anything on the c values between the trustfires so there is either a difference or I have done something wrong on my circuit. A high drain battery should help me isolate the problem.

I'm using the 14500 Flames, 900mah's.
You will have some drop in voltage with the 14500. Also depends on your load.
Set at 5v and a 3.7ohm atty I get 4.7v out.
Set at 4.23v and a 1.9ohm atty I get 3.8v out
Very little drop when using an 18650, 3000mah or 2400mah.

lol well I did the same back when I first ran across you in the forums, the fingers just want to insert that extra letter- I call it auto-incorrect :)

I get that a lot. people ask, what's wrong with my english. I tell them that I was born, raised and schooled in Brooklyn.

Hey Fray,
What voltage are you set at with NO load

Initially had it open so it registered 5v but put in a linear pot and dialed it up to 7v with a similar outcome.

I found my old dc power supply for video games which gives me 5v and 7a and hooked it up. With this the circuit works perfectly. I just can't carry an extension cord around with me all day lol

I just got my PCBs in yesterday to use a regulator from maxim. Only comes in surface mount packages.

I don't have the chip number on right at the moment but from the datasheet it looks like it will be much better than the Ti I have in it now.

Let me get this straight:
With the 5v, 7amp supply it works perfect. Meaning NO voltage loss, right?
But with the 14500 you get 3.3v w/load and 5v w/ NO load. Is this correct?
And the load is a 2.8 ohm carto, right? Which would not be taxing the battery or booster @ 8.9 watts and 1.786 amps
If so, I would suspect the battery. How many mah is the 14500?
