well the amber ultem doesn't really show fingerprints much at all and the gloss makes it really easy to just wipe fingerprints or juice away with no effort, the high gloss means nothing really sticks to it so it just wipes away easily like it would on glass, and yes the high gloss is more transparent than a satin when it comes to amber, think of it as clear glass compared to frosted glass, satin ultem is much like frosted glass so it's a bit less transparent...

if we're talking about the black then yeah, I don't know of any dark shiny surface that wouldn't show fingerprints really, but the real difference between ultem and aluminum is that aluminum is very soft, so much so that if you have something that is polished aluminum and get some fingerprints on it, just the act of wiping away the fingerprints will cause micro scratches on the surface which means smudges, and it's almost impossible to keep a polished aluminum looking great because every time you touch it your actually causing more micro scratches and smudges so polished doesn't stay looking great unless you never touch it, not so with the ultem. the surface is much harder than a polished aluminum surface, so you can just wipe it off on your shirt and it returns to a high gloss, much like glass really... in many ways ultem is more durable than aluminum, including the gloss finish...

Thanks for the explanation turbo. I'm on the list twice, so for the first mod can I go for gloss amber ultem and for the second, satin black? If that's ok should I update the list myself? I didn't want to screw up something such a well organized list :)

Thank you sir

For black ultem, is it possible to have body and door in satin, faceplate gloss, and an insert between body and faceplate in brass?
Hope I'm clear...

yes, I can def do that, sounds like that would look pretty cool really...

OK so I'm going with this, I'm spot 48.
Thanks turbocad!

just note one thing, I see you listed it as centered atty but the dna200's will all have the atty off to the one side of the mod, the atty can not really be centered over the center of the mod simply because there are 2 batteries in there, so the atty has to be off to the side past the batteries, like all of the other dna200's I've done. I can't really move the atty over, it can be centered front to back but then it will block the door with 22mm atties and it has to be off to the one side

Oh OK, thought the problem was just with the door.
So place it to your standard design, that's fine for me.

as soon as I finalize the dna200 ultem design I'll show it here and then you can make a final decision, the ultem dna200 will be very similar to the woods I've built so far but ultem will wind up with a few very minor design changes because the lower door track will be slightly different from the woods... you'll have time to decide if any tweaking is a possibility for you once I show the final ultem dna200. I haven't even built an ultem 200 yet tbh because it requires a few tweaks to the design for the ultem VS wood

Guys, I think I should withdraw my name from the list for the time being -- or at least bump it down to the end. I'm gonna be spending substantial money to fix the flood damage from the hurricane three weeks ago here on the NE FL coast, and it's not at all clear how much the insurance is going to cover. So discretionary purchases that I hadn't already made firm commitments to are on hold for the time being.

wow, not a problem brother, hope things turn around with the insurance company for you :(

I'll just leave you on the wood list just to leave an existing wood list up once I complete the rest of the woods and for just in case you ever decide you want something, but no pressure or obligation man, sorry to hear about this and good luck with that mess...

Sorry to hear Rossum, at least it's still standing,

have you been back to view the carnage first hand?

Yeah, we've been here since late Tuesday evening. The new roof we put on this place a year and a half ago was a good investment. It's one of the few roofs in the neighborhood that doesn't have any damage. Got internet up and running again late Wednesday. A/C that had miraculously been working when the power came back on about a week after the storm wasn't working when we got here. That took until yesterday to get fixed. Needless to say, contractors down here are running around like headless chickens...

Glad to hear things are on the right path. Mother Nature can be a B! And insurance companies... well...

Sorry to read about the damage Ross. We're in the throws of renovating a unit ourselves. May the permit process go seamlessly and the repairs go famously. :thumb:
