So I bowl in a league every Wednesday night, and tonight when I was done I was sitting at the bar finishing my beer with my mid sitting on the bar. The management there is fine with vaping and I am always polite and don't blow clouds or anything. Most people can't even tell. So this one lady comes up to me and says "you know those will be outlawed soon" I said maybe but I will enjoy it while I can and at lest I'm not smoking. She replies that they are just as bad and still have nicotine, I said I like nicotine and besides I have cut my nicotine by 1/3 since quitting smoking plus no more tar and 90% less chemicals. She just walked away....hope I made some difference but she's a judgmental non-smoker. Sorry to vent but this is the first time I've had to deal with an attitude like that other than family...they don't count lol.

I've found the most rabid anti vapours are ex smokers who quit cold turkey they have such a superiority complex and usually they only want all traces of smoking or vaping gone because they are not that confident of their willpower. Add in the constant propaganda of the last few decades and we have an uphill battle to differentiate and educate most will listen if approached calmly and politely but there are some that will never listen or want to even consider anything but their belief. Our trick is recognising one from the other and progressing that way.

The sad part is this woman actually is a former smoker, she quit several years ago after a heart attack. Not sure what method she used to quit, but apparently in her mind anyway its the only right way.

I think that specific method is called 'life epiphany and sheer terror'. Which is quite a lot stronger a motivation than the mere threat of the very same thing.

only 30% of smokers ever develop a physical dependency
to smoking. i am not sure of the percentage of those
with just a habitual dependency but suffice to say that
just because someone quits cold turkey it doesn't mean
they have more will power than any one else.
it means they were not addicted to smoking in the
first place.

You got that right.

I spent a good six months arguing with people on a quit smoking forum.
Their hardcore, long-time members HATE electronic cigarettes.

My final conclusion was that they are scared of them, because they are tempted by them.
I was able to come to that conclusion when some of them started to admit it.

They live day by day as if this were some kind of 12 step program.
Not One Puff Ever (NOPE) was their motto.

And they think nicotine is the devil in disguise.
They even call it the Nicodemon.

They are thoroughly brainwashed, and I'd hate to be in their shoes.

I've developed what I consider to be a fairly pad answer..."How much research have you actually done on vaping. I know that I've done close to 100 hours of research, that being said you notice I'm vaping vs smoking." Usually shuts them up.

I like that response! I'm going to use it from now on. Thank you!

Many smokers continue to smoke because they believe that quitting will be a horrible and painful experience. It's part of what we've all been told about how bad the addiction is. When they actually decide to quit they make it a horrible and painful experience in order to justify their original belief. Finding out that it doesn't have to be that way makes them feel silly for believing it in the first place.

From your story, the lady was just some stranger who felt it appropiate to share her vast knowledge with you out of the clear blue?

I would have replied something like " and what on earth makes you think I want your unsolicted opinion?" No way would I have attempted to justify my legal actions in a business that has no problem with vaping.
Because I am sweet like that :)

Many smokers continue to smoke because they believe that quitting will be a horrible and painful experience.
Such belief is usually based on experience with previous attempts to quit.

Finding out that it doesn't have to be that way makes them feel silly for believing it in the first place.
No, I don't feel it was silly. I just feel the vaping is a miracle. :)

Kind of like a self fufilling prophecy.

I'm so sorry you had to deal with THAT! OOOH I can't stand people like that! I would have said Gosh I hope they are not outlawed because they got me off smoking and likely saved my life... then I would have told her I guess I'm going to be a out law then! You know, it never ceases to amaze me how people just offer up their self righteous opinions when they weren't asked!!! It makes me so angry. I'm suprised she didn't give you the old "fake cough" too. I get that one a lot! Even if I'm in the smoking area some piece of work will walk by and fake cough!! It errs me to no end. I would NEVER just offer up my opinion to a stranger! I just don't get these types of people!!

E-cigaphobe. Someone with an irrational fear of an electronic cigarette.
Vaperphobe. Someone with an irrational fear of a person using an e-cig.

These are irrational yes?

But what they fail to see(rationally) are the consequences that might ensue when confronting someone
using said lifesaving device and desires to have them outlawed and taken away from them.

This is where the real fear should lie for them, yet there phobia blinds them to it.
Possibly making them correct, self-fulfilling prophecy.

Now if vapers were going around blowing up their e-cigs all over the place and hurting innocents,
the vaperphobe might have a valid fear, but we are not doing this.(At least not yet)
