Since my job requires use of an ultrasonic cleaner I used it quite a bit during my first abortive trial with e cigs. Some stuff I can say about it, one is fill your sonic cleaner to the fill line. It is bad for the cleaner if you don't. Two, since I can't bring booze to work on a weekday I found both got water and hydrogen peroxide (3%) work very well. Peroxide never worked well for me as a soak, but works surprisingly well in the ultra sonic cleaner. Three, if you have a large enough tank on your cleaner and don't want to fill it completely with whatever you are using to clean with, fil the tank with plain water, then a glass beaker with your solution and place that in the cleaner. It may take an extra run through, but worth it if you have a 1.5 gallon tank on yours like mine does. Then I blew them out with some equipment we have and put them in a bottom heated vacuum chamber. Attys like new. I also found if I put a paper towel in the bottom of the cup or tray it kept things from getting scratched, but that was industrial grade indestructible stuff.

Even with that regular attys and carts drove me nuts. This time around I am using clearomizers. The first couple of runs I do with it left together. Then I take it apart and gently pull back the cup so the coiled wick is better exposed. Then I run them through that way. Then I gently dry them, blow them out, then place them in a bottom plate heated vacuum chamber. It works extremely well.

I am glad you pointed out that it needs to be filled to the fill line. I was not sure about that but I was doing it anyways just in case :D

Yep. I work at a university clinic, and the students were not very diligent about filling the tank. It burned it out, according to the manufacture rep.

I'm interested in this, so far just using denture tablets+shake it around then dry and vape.

In a few weeks I'll cut my atomizer apart. The big thing for all the slag buildup etc: It's easier to keep it gone then to get rid of it once it gets built up! I use my atomizers for a day or two, then in the cleaning bottle they go. My wicks are still all white. So while ultrasonics might not reduce massively built up slag, you probably shouldn't have it there in the first place(gross to breathe). Cleaning more often, and they stay clean, whatever method you use.

Just took a cruise through my local Harbor Freight outlet, and discovered that the 1-pint capacity "Chicago Tools" branded ultrasonic cleaner is $39.99 with a flyer discount coupon of $15.00, and I the gal at the register gave me an additional $10.00 off on my purchase today. At $14.99, I just couldn't resist it.

Would anyone recommend using an ultrasonic cleaner for cartomizers? Probably wouldn't use vodka or alcohol, just water, but would it be better than boiling them?

I haven't tried it yet but I will be tossing a couple of mine in the cleaner next time. I have used a small amount of PGA in the cartomizer because I was trying to remove the flavor but I rinsed it out afterwards.

PGA is a great cleaning agent, expecialy for atties. PGA will also destroy lung tissue if vaped before given time to dry out. I would be hesitant to use it in a carto. I just got a cheap ultrasonic cleaner off of ebay and I'm going to try cleaning out some cartos in the next few days. I'll make a review when I'm finished. Thanks Panky!

Hmmmmmmm. The ultrasonic cleaner certainly worked well ... with 100 proof vodka it completely stripped the pink paint from my 510 atties and the black paint from my be112 atties to leave me with steel-colored atties.

I'm still not sure how well it did otherwise, but its a dinkum paint remover!

Lol! That is what happened to my black ego-t atty the first time I tried PGA  Doesn't seem to bother the 510s though. They seem to have a harder finish :D The pink must be softer or something.

Still haven't seen anyone reply to the cartomizer cleaning. Has anyone tried cleaning cartos or CE2's yet with this method. If so, was it successful? And what was used as a cleaning agent. Thanks in advance.
Fubie

I've dabbled with carto cleaning in my cheapie sonic cleaner and have had mixed results. Ultimately, I decided it's not worth the hassle.

Technonut posted elsewhere that he cleaned some clear dual coil cartos in his ultrasonic cleaner with PG from Tractor Supply and had good results.

Can't quote since I am on my phone, but I clean ce2s in a sonic cleaner. Honestly I clean everything in a sonic cleaner. Granted it is a rather expensive one. Since it is the one at work I can't use alchohol, so I just use plain old hot water. It works well for me. The ce2s still require dry burns, but using the sonic cleaner seems to loosen things enough that I dont scorch the wicks so often. I usually run them through one time, dry and do a dry burn, let them cool, run through the sonic cleaner again, dry and dry burn one last time. Then I an ready to vape again. But for the ces, the sonic cleaner alone is not enough, it is more like an aid, and if I had to buy one I am not sure I would be willing to do so.

I have a ultrasonic cleaner.

I use hh357's

I can't seem to get the gunk off the coils. Any advice? I don't want to dry burn (but have) and am wondering how long I should run these through for.

I have thought about getting a small brush of some kind to brush the gunk off. I wonder if anyone else cleans hh357s In a ultrasonic and with what results.

I have a ultrasonic cleaner and boiled distilled water and ran them through about 5 cycles each. I then did a really SHORT dry burn and put them back in. Coils much cleaner. I now have to wait till they dry to try them, but I think they are cleaner than they have ever been. This might be the magic cleaning trick. just thought I would share.

I received my ultrasonic cleaner last night from Amazon. it's listed as INDUSTRAL GRADE 160 WATTS 5.29PINTS DIGITAL HEATED ULTRASONIC CLEANER. I think it was about $80. I also wanted it to clean old lighters so I wanted a pretty good one. I used cheap vodka and waited for it to heat up. Dropped in a handful of CE2s that I'd quit using because either they didn't put out much vapor anymore or were vaping really hot due to not wicking enough juice. I gave them one 450 second cycle. No pre-rinse, no post-rinse, no dry burn, and I didn't bother to let them dry. The ones I then tried were like new or better. I probably should note that I exclusively vape unflavored except for adding menthol.
