So does the ultrasonic cleaning action clean the crap off the coil? I thought that was the number 1 reason for atomizer decay/failure.

It probably depends on how bad the atty was to begin with. Many still require a dry burn to get rid of the heavy crap.
this one says to use just water; is that what you do or can you substitute vodka or other liquid? or is water just as good?
thanks

Kinda depends on what's being cleaned. My glasses...water with a bit of dish soap does just fine. My wifes jewerly - usually needs something more than just water. White vinegar works good on her rings.
It's one of those "YMMV" types of conditions.

I just picked up one of these ultrasonic cleaners. After reading this entire thread, and a couple of other threads on the topic, I have a few unanswered questions.

Has anyone had any problems with the ultrasonic cleaner damaging the rubber wire coating inside the atty itself? I mean if it strips paint off the outside of the atty, I hate to think what its doing inside to the power supply wires.

I'm a bit worried about dropping my black painted atty's in there. Should I even bother? I don't want paint floating into my atty's, because vaping burnt paint chips isn't exactly worth the 5 dollar atty to me. Lol.

Also, I've read conflicting information about what to clean these in. Some people are running theirs with alcohol, but I don't want to potentially cause a housefire with this thing. Would it be better to soak them in alcohol first then run it in distilled? If so, how long do you guy usually soak them in alcohol?

Next question, are you all saving the solvents you are using? Leaving it in the cleaner until the next time? Throwing it? Just kinda wondering. Using PGA or vodka would get kinda expensive to throw away every time.

Brew

Just run it through a coffee filter :)
Comes out almost clean as new.

Thanks to all who contributed info and findings to this thread. I bought the Chicago Tools unit from Harbor and just ran my 306 Cisco spec attys through 3 cycles of three minutes each....blew them out well, shook yet more water/iso out of them thermometer-style and now I'm just gonna let em dry for an hour before I use one. I will be back later to let everyone know the deal.

I am also going to run some Bloog 808 cartomizers through and report back.

If the ultrasonic cleaner does not clean the gunk off the atty, then is there a point in using it? Very hot water should clean out the leftover juice from any carto filler or wicking material. And after what I've been reading about dry-burning, I'm not up for doing that anymore.

I was really hoping that ultrasonic cleaning would indeed work.

me too, but word is out there that "cleaning" buy anything but blowing and running water (if that) can shorten the life anyway...
i know it works for tons of folks...
was going to get a ultrasonic thing too, but not sure fire either...
besides, the minimum shipping to hawaii, on that deal is $20...

doesn't spam grow on trees where you live?
haha; we're all creatures of habit.... wwII pacific and all that... actually it's the "locals" who devour it and you'll find it on most hole in the walls diners' menus. The kids here go crazy for Musubi, like a sushi mini burrito; rice and nori wrapped around a slab of spam...

btw southern polynesian islanders (tahiti etc) hoard canned corned beef like it was gold.

Lol. Ok still OT, what's the deal with spam? Hawaii is the state with the largest consumption per capita...

fluxomizers used two weeks.

the dark carbon slag is very hard.
I picked at the slag w/ needle and wick looks ok under slag..

My attys and cartos come out clean tasting for the most part.
Never lost any to ultrasonic.
Does not remove coil slag.
I had similar luck w/ manual alcohol syringe flushing and soaking.
I like ultrasonic but not sure if price is justified.
When DIY mixing ultrasonic comes in pretty handy.
I think it is best to clean frequently if vaping gunky flavors.
