Undoing 40 Years of Stupidity?

Just joined the forum, since I see this as a very valuable tool in my effort to never smoke a cigarette again. So about me: I have been a full time smoker for 40 years. For the last 20 or so, I have been smoking approximately 30-40 big fat hand rolled, non-filter cigs a day.

A friend of my wife sent her a Joyetech eGo starter kit quite a while ago and a bottle of e-juice. We both tried it and thought it was OK, but did not get serious about it. Then a couple of months ago I had a few vascular incidents with the blood supply to the retina in my right eye, causing temporary partial vision loss in that eye. That was enough to scare both of us into giving the e-cigs another, more serious try. I bought a second kit so we would both always have an e-gig ready to go.

I still smoked a few cigarettes a day at first, but kept at tapering it down, and now I have not smoked in a week and do not miss it, unless I smell smoke. My wife still smokes a few a day, but has reduced her smoking considerably. However, it seems I am still on the learning curve, which is how I ended up here.

Money is tight for us now, so cost is a major factor, but because vaping is far less expensive, that has helped keep the motivation up to stay off tobacco. I do vape very heavily; I go through 2-4 fully charged eGo batteries a day, and I am using 30 mg/ml e-juice. I will have several questions, but felt that an introduction was appropriate first, so here it is.

Thanks in advance for all of the help I am sure i will get here. And to whoever designed this website and forum structure, you are awesome. The auto-save function has already saved me from losing this post by trying to preview without being logged in.

Welcome to ECF. I have only been on here a few weeks myself and wends will be my 2 weeks that i have been quit . I smoked close to 40 years myself about 2 1/2 to 3 packs a day. as soon as i started vaping i cut back to 10 and within 2 weeks i was totally done with the smoking. Vaping does work... Just find the juice that suits your needs and have more than one flavor on hand so that you can switch off if you need to... You will probably find all the info you need on this site...

If money is short you can do eliquid by yourself it will be cheaper.

I'd be glad to answer your questions if I can..

I am looking to start DIY'ing the juice, which was one important reason for joining this forum. My first question is probably a very common one, but there is so much content on this forum it will take some time to find if answers already exist. Because I need a lot of nicotine, I am looking to get some 100 mg/ml liquid and dilute it myself. Flavor is not that important to me at this point, so I will go with unflavored and experiment from there.

But the question for me is where to get the liquid. Price is important, but so is purity/quality. We have all heard about recent occurrences of product contamination in things like dog food, etc., so I am leery of the claims I see on every vendor's website I visit. As far as I know, there is really not much to prevent people from making false claims or providing phoney documentation. Given that, I want to at least buy from companies that are based in the US and use US-produced ingredients. I have nothing against other nations or their peoples, but I feel like being able, at least theoretically, to take someone to court for false advertising, or selling me poison because it is $2.00 a barrel cheaper than the real thing, provides some incentive for US-based companies to stay honest.

So my first question is where to get 100 mg/L liquid that is low cost but high quality. I am leaning more toward the VG base vs. the PG, simply because it seems like the VG is more like something I would normally put in my body.

I think you need 5 posts to be able to post in the other forums. There's a huge forum here, as I'm sure you know by now, that covers DIY liquid. Once you are able to post there, I'm sure you can get a bunch of good recommendations from the pros.

Yes, I saw that requirement. Do you if comments to existing threads (including replies to comments like this one right here) count toward that requirement?

Welcome, Boletus ! :D

I smoked for 46 years, lost a couple of molars, started vaping on the advice of my dentist, and never looked back ...

If you rolled your own analogs, you were already comfortable with investing some time into maintaining your habit. Preparing your PV for the next day is about the same thing. I spend maybe 15-30 minutes each evening cleaning and filling my tanks, and always keep a set of batteries charged ...

Keep backups, and backup backups. Ego stuff is not costly, and pretty reliable. Its what I use to vape while I'm prepping the other stuff for the next day ...

Happy Vaping ! :D
