This is definitely NOT true in my case. I've been vaping, and enjoying it VERY much, for over six years. I like flavors sometimes, but I like unflavored, too. I find it very cleansing and very refreshing. And, I have no intentions of EVER quitting vaping.

I was like that Also the first couple of Years after I started Vaping. And it is what got me into DIY. I couldn't find e-Liquids that were Strong Enough or Sweet Enough. So I Added Flavoring and Sweeteners to retail e-Liquids.

But I Burned Out on it.

Today, I will put a Few Drops of Regular Flavored e-Liquid on a New Wick, and then Fill my Tank, or Squonk Bottle, with Unflavored.

Amazing to me How Much Flavor I can Taste from just a Flavored Wick.

Interesting, never thought that it might be enjoyable vaping unflavored juice, for me its like drinking water which i rarely do, it has to be tea coffee or juice :D

Anyway it means i was wrong ;)

I have just found this thread and could not agree more with the idea.

Though I smoked a pipe for many years, like most folk I started off with cigarettes...and smoked a lot of them at one time. Being a Brit my all time favourites were two old style unfiltered virginia brands - Senior Service and Players. To my mind Senior Service offered a fuller more rounded smoke; whereas Players were sharper but somehow more mellow.

When I started vaping I found most tobacco flavours were pretty evil; extracting flavour from pipe tobacco was for me an epic failure - it tasted worse even than tobacco flavouring...then I tried DIY unflavoured.

I do think the attie you vape unflavoured in can affect how it tastes ( as can the brand of nic liquid you use ) - for me unflavoured vaped in a Nautilus Mini reminded me strongly of Senior Service whereas if I used a GS Air it was reminiscent of Players.

While it's not to everyone's taste - my own preference is for Greek nic liquid which I buy when I am in Spain - it has the slight peppery taste/sensation which I enjoy.

Thanks for starting an interesting thread!

I had to start DIY almost immediately after I started to vape because of awful amount of sweeteners and flavors in ready to use juices. All of them were terrible to me (except for some tobacco flavored, but they had, well, tobacco smell, so I could not vape them at work and around my wife). Now I make my juices in 50 ml bottles, usually put about 2% of flavoring. As a rule, after 1/2 of bottle is used, I decide that there was too much flavor, so I top it with unflavored base (now it has 1% of flavoring). Again, after 1/2 of bottle is used, I dilute it (now - 0.5% of flavoring). My usual way now, because I am still trying to understand if I can like heavily flavored juice, and 2% IS heavily flavored.

I was just wondering if I'm the only one who feels like vaping unflavored juice mtl mimics smoking the best.
I have been vaping for three years now, about half of the time (the second half ;-) without flavor. For me, it mimics smoking just because it does not smell and taste like food or drinks, and it always has the same taste like one's favourite brand used to have.

So it is not physically similar to smoking - it does not mimic the tobacco taste, but the exactly as you say: it mimics (not the taste but) a specific characteristic of smoking, it's sameness all the time.

I started having problems with my mouth, roof, gums, tongue, and can only vape unflavored VG. I mix my own 90VG/10DW for less than $3/100ml and I don't buy in bulk or it would be cheaper still. Over the years I have gone from 24mg to 18 to 12 to 6 with a brief try at 3. 3 did not have enough nic taste or satisfy my cravings.

For people trying unflavored, the amount of nic does effect the taste as well as the mix and brand of components.

I also have various devices that vaporize the liquid in the range of more harsh to more smooth.

I've been vaping primarily unflavored for the past two months and really like it. I've been mixing 20/80 and adding 2% sweetener with 3mg nic. Tastes kind of like a sugar water. What is so nice, is that I don't get sick of it like I would with ADVs. I would regularly switch flavors throughout the day. Now I don't need to. And the cost can't be beat. The sweetener does gunk up my coils after 5 days but probably because I run around 80 watts. The higher power provides a satisfying warmth and that's how I'm able to vape at 2mg and 3mg strengths and still feel satiated. :)

I'm Olde Style - I vape 50/50 PG/VG 16 strength at around 8 watts.

What works for me, is that I buy in Pharma Grade Glycerine and turn it into Aqueous Glycerine by adding 20% distilled water then using it with PG.

Some folk say this can't be done or is dreadful - all I can say is it works for me - in a GS Air I get up to 10 weeks per coil..I am a Pensioner so this is important to me!

I do this, too.
Same for me,after a good few years of (NETs) and endless re-wicking, settled on carrying a 5ml bottle of 7% hangsen tobacco 1%T/A 0.25% M-type mix
5ml squonk bottle 18mg unflavoured, only need to paint the wick twice for the 5ml,find this for me to be most satisfying vape, :D the things we do.

I chased flavor so for years. My DIY recipe file has dozens and dozens of recipes. But for the past year or so, I've given up on all that. I make up my 6mg/ml unflavored base, usually about 250ml at a time. When I fill my 6 ml REO squonk bottle, I'll add just 1 or 2 drops of flavoring to it, whatever I'm in the mood for, and it's great. Sometimes it'll be a caramel, or a vanilla, or a tobacco, whatever. Sometimes no flavor at all. 80VG/20PG has a nice natural sweetness by itself.

I tried unflavored a few months ago. I know have one tank with unflavored (drop in coils to help with longevity of the coils) and another tank with my favorite NET (I make the coils for this one so it doesn't matter how gunked up they get, easy to rewick). I actually like the unflavored. If things go terribly south and I cannot get my favorite NET, I will be perfectly happy vaping unflavored for the long run.

Win, win!

Doing Unflavored DIY is also Much Simpler that doing Flavored DIY.
