Recently, I have seen several websites offering clones of a mod or rda but do not identify the manufacturer. I did ask one site who a mod maker was and they told me. Another site, however, would not disclose who the device maker was. I am very reluctant to purchase a clone when I don't know who made it. What do you guys think? Would you/do you buy a clone without knowing who made it?

Avoid them like the plague. Many are preying on the fact that you may not realize there may be 3 different makers and 9 versions of the same clone. They buy the cheapest one... then charge you a price that other, more reputable shops sell the best one for.

It's like playing Russian Roulette. You could find a gem, you could be tossing your money out the window.

I play both sides of the fence. Sometimes I'll put a $12 something or other in my Fasttech shopping cart, sometimes I will go to a vendor that advertises the manufacturer. The threads on the forums are chock full of pointers to the "good" clones.

If you are dealing with a seller from China they may not know who the manufacturer is. Things work a little different in the China market place. Some of the manufacturers will not sell directly to retailers, only to suppliers(middle man).
The suppliers sell to the retailers and do not want to give them the name of the manufacturer because they want to be able to change manufacturers if they can find a better price or may need to change manufacturers do to stock availability.

Go take a look on Alibaba. You will find a large number of companies selling the same item with the same pictures and descriptions. One will be the true manufacturer and the others are suppliers who buy from the manufacturer and sell to the retailers.

Reputable businesses don't sell counterfeits...

I must respectfully counter that I feel reputable businesses cater to their customer base and treat every transaction as the most important transaction of the day.

Selling a counterfeit as an original is inexcusable; selling a clone/counterfeit with full disclosure is just good business.
