If I were a supplier wanting to make lots of money, i would corner an untapped market-the MILITARY.
There are more smokers in the military than probably any other "sector" in the country. I would advertise in the post newspapers e.g. Fort Hood Sentinel, and also in Army Times, Navy Times, Air Force Times, Stars & Stripes to outreach military members in the US and overseas and deployed.
Capitalize on the benefits.....no more sticking butts in your ACU pockets (common practice since you cant throw ciggie butts on the ground on military installations), being able to vape in more places, having better lung capacity for PT tests and regular daily PT from not smoking, ecigs without LED are useful in combat zones, vaping on long flights on cargo planes, saving money on laundering your battle dress uniforms etc cuz they dont "stink" with tobacco every day, being able to "vape" in all the motor pools where its strictly "nonsmoking", being able to vape in fire hazard areas-think mechanic shops, aircraft carriers, submarines, confined spaces, on board military aircraft, in nonsmoking govt vehicles and tactical vehicles....come on, the list goes on and on...
man, if i had the money to get into the business, i guarantee i would be very successful in marketing it, and i definitely would be enjoying a larger profit margin than other suppliers because i tapped this market.
you just need to understand military culture, rules and regs, lifestyle, in order to market successfully to this very large sector of our population!!!
not to mention, the active duty military members have a considerable disposable income, thanks to their housing/food/medical already covered for the most part.
oh and by the way, the VA would be another excellent area to tap....go visit any VA and see how many old vets are there smoking outside with their tracheostomies.....and how many are walking around with oxygen tanks with severe COPD and still smoke. i would strategically market to the VA folks, ole retirees/vets....

Amen and pass the gravy, THE!

First of all, I dont have the "capital" to do it, and second of all, I work for the Department of Defense in a fulltime job, so I simply dont have the time. Otherwise, I would do it...no doubt. Because I KNOW that I would exceed any of these other suppliers in profits simply by creative marketing aimed at this market alone. So, maybe some smart supplier will listen to what I have to say and go with it..............and you can thank me later with some freebies lol!

Well.. who in the hell can stop you if you want to supply servicemen with e-smoking equipment?
You're a woman and you're from the south ..
You could probably build the pyramids if you put your mind to it.

Southern women, they're just amazing.

Oh boy that kind of work is a-lot of work. I know this lady who is working over in Iraq on the private side and it is just SO MUCH work. Well, she got tired of talking with me any way. But I think she was one of the most monied lady friends I have. I know how much work being in the service is because I've known a-lot of guys who've been servicemen and I've slept with a couple of (maybe three) women who were in the army.

I think I have an idea .. why don't you ask those one ladies who hustle e-cigs to front you a few? Then you can sell them at a profit and use that profit to re-up until you're in business?

I e-mailed her for you

It sure doesn't pay very well these days
I may have to pay taxes if I go and sell for someone .. But I won't be happy about it .. I'm going to enclose a printout of a middle finger for the cover page and dare them to audit me ... Ha Ha HA

well i am not referring necessarily to ON POST sales, e.g. at the BX/PX/Marine Exchange etc...though, however, the exchanges on post do have "kiosk" vendors in the lobby area....but you would have to get an AAFES vendor approval.
i am mainly talking about OFF POST sales (most of the shopping by military is done off post)...and marketing ecigs in military magazines for ONLINE sales.

I work for the Navy Exchange on NAS Whidbey Island. I know E-cigs would sell like hot cakes in the store if we were allowed to carry them. I know this because I get asked about mine everytime I use it :) However think about this The Navy or Military are a Goverenment agency and another Goverenment agency namely the FDA is not happy with E-cigs. So at least at Military exchanges they probably won't be carried until this FDA issue is resolved.

yes Ft Hood ALONE has a huge potential customer base, being the largest military installation in the country. we have between 50,000-75,000 soldiers, and thats not even including dependents and retirees!!!!

i have been wondering why there is no retailer here in the city that sells kits/juice, i bet you could make a killing, i was just talking to my gf about it earlier today. ft.hood alone has a ton of customers/potential customers.

Not sure the Military magazines would allow E-cigs prompted in them. We get the Navy Navigator in the store and have never seen them advertised. Course I'm not sure anyone has tried. There are places here in town that sell E-cigs, Like 7-11 and the smoke shop, they seem to do well here.

You have a good point I think texas, the military is a sizeable market and quite a few of them already buy pv's, there are quite a few threads about this in the vendor forums. One bad point is that there is a recent memo about e-cigs in the military, it seems to be full of bad info and to class them in the same category as cigarettes. Bad news really.

As a former paratrooper I would have loved the ecig while I was in particularly when sitting around sometimes for hour or more rigged up for a jump. No smoking while around parachutes understandably. Also a no LED mod for at night for tactical reasons plus not destroying your night vision. And yeah in the Army the percentage of smokers or smokeless tobacco users was pretty high. In fact I took up dipping for those times when a cigarette was not allowed or convenient.

I can imagine the military following very closely the FDA though. Which is sad really since the ecig could potentially save the lives or alot of people by getting them off of the mainstream cancer causers.

Plus the irony of carrying a Silver Bullet in an ammo pouch would be priceless.
