Update on my thesis research

Good morning, fellow vapers! I was instructed (by a site manager) to wait until ECF's administrators approve my survey before posting it to ECF. Unfortunately, I do not have much time to complete my reserach, but I also do not wish to violate any of ECF's rules - after all, ECF would be a great resource for anyone wanting to survey e-cigarette users so I need to follow the rules and keep my relationship with ECF on the up-and-up. That said, I would like to ask you, if you are interested in assisting me with my reserach (and making your voice heard in this academic research project), please contact me directly your convenience and I will let you know how you can help! Thank you for your interest in this project, and I look forward to hearing from you!

You can pm me the details if you like, but wait, forgot, think you need at least 5 posts to be able to pm someone. If you follow the rules, this site gets lots of activity, and your wait would be short. So once you become legit, try again and am sure you'll get lots of data from helpful members. Interested in this, but.... will check back later, assuming this thread is still here.

Thank you for the advice, dice57! I believe that I am legit at this point. Also, thank you for your interest in my research! If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me directly. Thank you for your time and participation!

dice,

I was able to PM Kmel (which is surprising, I usually can't PM anybody who doesn't have their 5). I am presuming kmel can PM me back?

Absolutely, twgbonehead! I can and am happy to PM you. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns by PM or by contacting me directly.

Pretty painless survey!

My sincere thanks to everyone who has replied to my thread so far. I greatly appreciate your assistance and advice, and the warm welcome I've gotten from the ECF community at large thus far! If you happen to know of any e-cig users who might share your interest in contributing to my research efforts, please do send them my way - I am eager to hear from as many vapers as is possible and to get a truly broad perspective of who we are (in a de-identified sense, of course).

Just did the survey. It was good! Thanks for the opportunity to participate and if/when you can please report back on the results.

Thank you, cbrite! I appreciate your participation and feedback. It is my pleasure to provide our community with a voice (even if it's just a small one) in academic research. I will post the aggregate results w/n the month, so please stay tuned! :)

I just did your survey it was painless

Thank you, benroy44, for your participation and feedback! I am glad to know that it was painless. I did my best on that - the instrument I was first provided with was over 1000 questions long! Not to seem like an ingrate - the researcher who provided me the draft was very kind to share, but it took a good bit of editing! :)

Hey--I lived in Germantown for about 20 yr--Ferry Landing Circle, if you know where that is. I would be glad to help with your research. Are you doing it for Univ of MD? My son got his Master's there. Just PM me when you get your 5 posts in.

I'm not familiar with Ferry Landing Cir.; we live on Country Ridge Dr., which is off Father Hurley at the Wynfield/Trimfield intersection. You may/ may not know where that is. I've only lived here for 5 yrs or so, and I've been told it's been built up a lot over the past 10 yrs.

The survey is the initial part of my research, though I am hoping to be able to continue if I can. I'm doing this research for the George Washington University as a student; I am writing a thesis for my Masters about what we (vapers) think about e-cigs and e-cig use, why we use them (for example, do we quit smoking analogs altogether or just cut back, stuff like that, and what are the patterns in stuff like that). I am really excited about this research because I feel that e-cigs are a really great method of cessation or cutting back, and I think that either/both saves peoples lives! I will keep the community posted on how this project goes, and I hope to get help from the ECF w/ future research too! :)

Easy survey, except I feel some questions, mainly risk focused, should begin with do you feel or believe ... and not so much direct fact. There is still uncertainty regarding health.

Thank you for your participation and feedback, burnnoticefanny! A big part of why I am conducting this kind of research is to help researchers figure out what type of questions need to be asked to begin with, and how they should be asked, b/c vapers are a sort of novel population (not really like smokers in most instances, but not quite like people who quit outright either). This process is much like proofreading - you all notice things that, for one reason or another, have escaped me entirely. In short, this is terrific information to have for the development of this and future projects! :)

Yeah, easy quick survey but I feel it needs someone who actually vaped for a while to help you ask the questions. There were too many questions with smoking/nicotine in it rather than vaping/nicotine. A few questions I had to put "I don't know" as the answer as I don't smoke anymore.

Thank you for your participation and feedback, eebant! It is exactly this type of info that is the most helpful in evolving the survey into a tool that works well in getting info from vapers. This makes me realize that I need to rethink how I try to get at info like whether or not respondents smoke or have quit, for how long they've been quit, whether or not e-cigs were instrumental in the quitting, etc.. This research is sort of like proofreading - you all see stuff that does not occur to me. How great that such a community exists - for researchers and for vapers!!
