URGENT: Ohio State Senator Shannon Jones is a danger to public health!

Ohio State Senator Shannon Jones is quoted in the following article as saying “while a whole bottle of bleach isn't fatal to a child, just 1 mL of liquid nicotine could be.”

Ohio Lawmaker Proposes Law On E-Cig Liquid Packaging | 1370 WSPD

The attempt to over dramatise eliquid’s toxicity is obvious, especially when the new language in current use by press and politicians alike is to refer to e-juice as “liquid nicotine” which it is not. It is an end product, a mix of ingredients, all liquids, that “can contain nicotine” of varying levels which are stated on the label and typically in the United States, is not higher than 24mg (2.4%).
The appalling dangerous and in need of public condemnation part of the above statement is “while a whole bottle of bleach isn’t fatal to a child” being stated by an elected official, an elected official with children of her own! A great deal less than a 1 litre bottle of household bleach would absolutely kill an adult if ingested, not to mention when in contact with stomach acid would cause a chemical reaction eating through the insides of the person who ingested it. A child would require a great deal less than an adult to kill them through ingestion.
Whether briefed to state this by an incompetent aid or of her own ignorance, the fact that an elected official would make a statement to the press this demonstrably false, misleading and damaging to public health is morally reprehensible. Senators Jones should be forced to resign for this statement and the publication who quoted her as saying it condemned for not delving beyond it, to correct it, question it and be leading the charge to portray Sen Jones as anything less than what she is, a callously dangerous and incompetent public servant contributing to general ignorance of the populace she is meant to be serving.

Beyond the impending threat of ecig taxation in the State of Ohio, Senator Shannon Jones is attempting to ride the cause of Child Proof e-liquid bottles to popularity and self justification with her constituents. All of this despite there already being a Federal Bill in Congress to cover this (S.2581 - Child Nicotine Poisoning Act of 2014 https://www.congress.gov/bill/113th-congress/senate-bill/2581/text ). Rather than use her political voice to support this Bill, Sen. Jones has elected instead to use the subject as a tool for herself, a pointless action since a State law on products that are largely manufactured out of state where it is not applicable only stands to prevent sale of a variety of product provided it is actually enforced. Federal implementation of a law for child proof bottling of e-liquid would force all manufacturers nationwide to produce their product in child proof bottles.
Sadly, without enforcement of the law on either Federal or State level, the only thing that will happen is open breach of that law by vendors/manufacturers ignorant of it which will give more ammunition to those apposed to ecigs to over regulate them further. This is a self serving prophecy by design and done so with a well practiced hand, to further restrict eliquid and device options through State regulation because ecig sales threaten the long term annual sales of tobacco which States are dependent upon for MSA funds to repay loans already taken out upon the projected income of.
To further demonstrate Sen Jones’s incompetence, she is publicly lobbying to enact legislation in the state of Ohio for child proof bottles with year or more old ammunition in front of the press. The following image was posted by her on Facebook on the 12th of February showing 3 bottles of liquid, two of which are not child proof. https://www.facebook.com/ShannonJon...207520000.1424237026./781497495265112/?type=1 The problem with this is Space jam e-liquid is no longer available in either that bottle or with that label design (I am told it has been a year or more since that change happened by the manufacturer) and having looked up the “poor boy” manufacturer, they don’t produce in that bottle anymore either, all the product pictured on their site is child proof (date on this switch i do not know). The bottle in the center of the picture I have not looked up.
Please publicly condemn and advocate against Senator Shannon Jones with the links above, make a point of her waisting her time and tax payer money on attempts to enact a Bill that will do nothing for public health or safety of children in the way she would have it enacted. That she is grandstanding for her own gain rather than supporting the Congressional Bill that would do more. That she forgets her place politically in the grand scheme of Public Health of a Nation, not merely her State. Condemn the press that published the story for their journalistic failure and lack of integrity. Find her political opponents, those who want her job and supply them with the ammunition above that prove her incompetence to hold office, they can use it to promote themselves by outcrying her ineptitude. We stand a chance of injuring her public image with the ammunition we have here but more importantly, drawing attention to the blatant manipulation of the general public and push positive attention to the Congressional Bill through the senseless bypassing of it by State Senators looking to profit public relations wise through utterly pointless state level regulation over it.

Yep. She was district director for former U.S. Senator Mike DeWine, who got a "D" in NRA ratings. This is a "teaching moment" for those who vote Republican without knowing whether the candidate is a liberal Republican, moderate Republican, conservative Republican or libertarian Republican. When you put someone like Mike Dewine up for Senate candidate, or someone from the first two categories, you are going to get the Democrat Sherrod Brown as your Senator. In Ohio, same goes for George Voinovich, John Kasich and many others. Choose your candidates in the primaries with knowledge not just name recognition, or you're going to be severely disappointed if they end up winning or losing.

Look at this! The American Academy of Pediatrics is saying she's absolutely right about her insane bleach comment!! These people need their licenses pulled!!

Senator Jones used an infographic developed by the Ohio AAP to discuss the extreme dangers a small child could face if they ingest liquid nicotine, and makes the comparison that in the pediatric community, we do not see a bottle of bleach as a lethal substance when compared to a few mLs of liquid nicotine.
“Would we be concerned if a child drank an entire bottle of bleach? Concerned yes, corrosive elements yes, but fatal? Highly unlikely. A child would not voluntarily drink even 8 ounces of household bleach because of the smell and taste and large amount they would need to drink to prove lethal. In comparison, a child could easily consume even a teaspoon of liquid nicotine and have it prove fatal,” states Henry Spiller, Director of the Central Ohio Poison Center at Nationwide Children’s Hospital.

Ive heard it all now!
