All I have to say is check out the UCMJ on this....go down to jag and ask.... even though your in the military ( jag officer told me this) you still have rights. I have had my share of fun.... They can not take anything personal away from you without reason. and it takes more than an E9 to take it from you at least an 03 and up. Must be signed by your company commander to allow any personal possession to be taken away from any soldier.... I have seen an NCO (E7 SFC) get his ... handed to him by the company commander once for taking away this soldiers TV and civies. And yes in front of everyone (which shouldn't be done either).... A few months later he was shipped out. (overseas somewhere)

Brown-First things first, thanks for your service.

Although the UCMJ is your code, I don't think your commander can ban ecigs, it would have to be across the board for all military personnel, probably a direct order from the top, Secretary of Defense. Damn, I never paid much attention to what a Chief ever said to me-lol, so I wouldn't worry what the E6 through E8's are saying. Funny thing, when I served during Nam, in the Seabees, we used to get cigarettes in our c-rats. Go figure. Uncle Sam pushing tobacco...

Anyway, hang in there and thanks again for your service.

My CO is a LDO(limited duty officer) prior enlisted that worked their way up.... no Flag officers in my command.
But the BASE C.O. is a Flag officer. But it hasnt come through those line of communication...

As far as i know they havent gotten anyones e-cig. But when i was told that they wanted them. i SAID: "their not getting anything from me without Cold hard cash in my hand first, i paid for this with MY money" .

Well, your CO can't make such a sweeping reg on his own regard - that much I do know. If this is truly the case, he's digging his own grave with this one. Of course, I realize that the guys in your unit are probably not going to storm the JAG's office demanding redress - who is that suicidal? - but I still think that even an anonymous tip to the JAG would help. I'm pretty confident that they would roll in on this guy like Patton's offensive through Africa.

Just my opinion, but I'm an officer and I think this guy is a jerk. I would never do this to my troops on my own initiative, not unless I had a standing order from a flag rank or higher. Too sad.

My hubby is in the Air Force and he vapes out back of his squadron with all the smokers. He says there are four others that do too and they havent been told they cant use their e-cigs, in fact they get support for quitting analogs (or get laughed at and then support). The only thing was one of the guys was told not to do it in the building anymore because he was being ignorant about it and he had to go out back with the smokers.... no biggie though as that means a break outside. My hubby says you should've joined the AF, jk...

Be very careful how you tread with this deal BB. It is very easy to get yourself classified by your peers and those you serve under as a "Sea Lawyer" or a "Snitch" when dealing with this type of situation, and that will follow you and haunt you until you leave the service. Let the scuttlebut die down and see what the truth is. There is no need to stir a hornets nest without need.

Ever heard of the saying Dont Tred ON ME.... of course do this with the utmost respect... dont go ape S*** over this... and do your homework first... dont go crazy on your NCO or CO... not a good thing... but request to speak with your NCO chain of command first then take it higher if need be.

I'm going to give it a few days... i am pretty good with the whole chain of command from CO down. ( i have a collateral duty that could get him fired if i dont do it right) so i see him a decent amount of times ... i may bring it up (casually) during our next Top Secret inventory.

then you are good to go.... and lucky as well to bring something like this up in a casual manner with the CO... I wouldn't be surprised if he gave you the thumbs up to go ahead and vape. Especially when you say you dont smoke with these ecigs... CO's are usually the ones telling everyone in the safety briefings every friday to be safe. Believe it or not I had more respect for my CO's then I ever did with my NCO's. Well most of them anyway. Especially one CO who stood in the gas chamber without the mask and stood there talking to us while the whole place was full gas and my skin was itching like a son of a ....*. we took off the mask and did the motions put the mask back on cleared the mask. walked out and two lines went in. he was in there for a good 25 mins... walked out with a red face and smiled... craziest ....... I ever knew.

AS Spock would say that is illogical:shock::shock::shock::shock:
So the Navy is leaving a person no alternative..going to buy a pack of cigarettes, instead of using a product my Doctor advised me to get..and since now vaping , blood pressure is down I don't smell of tobacco, I breath easier, and my home doesn't stink anymore of cigarettes..so this poor sailor is going to again be exposed to 3900 carcinogens

Your mom said not to say...
Hmm couple of things come to mind reading this post, first off is I am damn glad I am no longer in the military, it sucked then and it sucks now no doubt. The second is that this sounds like typical "military intelligence" in action, in other words stupidity run amok. Thirdly and perhaps most disturbing is that the land of the free is telling their fighting men that they can't have something that is not illegal! The UCMJ is in place to prevent what clearly sounds like abuse of power, as others have stated the military can't just take your personal items without a damn good reason and it had better be vetted by the law dogs in the JAG before they start anything. Upon reading the whole post I see that it turned out to be a false alarm but isn't it scary how one dude was so quick to drink the kook aid and run around with his box to collect all the UA items? That's the person that gets "lost as sea" back in the day. CPO or not, you don't take such glee in taking away your mates rights unless your a complete tool. Glad to hear that your rights have not been totally violated, now straighten out that gig line and swab the fantail.

I've been watching big Navy closely for perspective for quite some time now.

As recent as today, to the best of my knowledge, there has been no official announcements from the DoN regarding any decision to ban, restrict, or control personal vaporizers. However, I have been witness to incidents of CPOs and misc leadership stating their opinion on the matter and taking it into their own hands to restrict this product from their staff.

From what I can see, sanctioned or restricted use of a PV is considered situational and decisions will be left to interpretation and subject to varied action, absent any official DoN or DoD decision at this time.

Hmm, some of the designs from the Navy Jack site would look cool on a Chuck!

I'm on an AF training base (retired AF) working as a contractor. I haven't heard anything yet about the AF even noticing e-cigs yet. But they just had a series of changes of command from the Wing on down so we'll probably hear something yet. So far smoking has been banned in parked pov's. I can't wait for my Chuck to come in. I'll probably end up ordering another with the AF emblem on it.
