usb 1 does provide power. i have a scanner from canon that predates usb 2, and has no power supply.it gets all its power from the usb port. it always surprised me that usb had enough power to run such a large device. i am currently running my usb passthrough on a front port(this computer is usb 2 though) and it works great. didnt think there was any power difference from usb 1 to usb 2, just more data. i can try the cig on my other usb 1 machine though....

I had thought 1.0 didn't provide power, or provided very little. I've been trying to confirm the power differences (or lack thereof) between 1.0 and 2.0, but I can't find anything definitive.

But in my search I learned (or rather, was reminded) that power isn't a constant among all USB ports, even assuming they're all 2.0. Some ports supply less power than others. Laptop ports and hubs with no external power (no AC adapter) can be among those that provide less, which might not be enough for vaping/charging.

Also, if any of you are having trouble with a USB port built into your keyboard or monitor, those are especially likely to lack the necessary power.

If you're having trouble vaping/charging from a USB port, whatever the reason, a powered hub should do the trick, as parapo suggested. Also thought I'd mention this device, since he mentioned powering USB directly from the wall: ThinkGeek :: AC to USB Power Adapter

Do you mean to sound like a jackass all the time or is it just coincidental? I'd appreciate it if you'd stop bashing everything I say.

I didn't suggest the device, I mentioned it, as an example of a certain type of product that's available. If you're dumb enough to click that link and order that specific product then that's your problem.

Next time try a sentence like "Looks like an interesting product, just make sure you order one that's 1,000mA instead, cause the one you linked to is only 500mA". Also add a nice smiley face, as that too contributes to you sounding like less of an .... Thanks man.

You say some really dumbass things equaz. We were just talking about the 500 mah not working then you find a link in exact opposition to what everyone (with experience) is saying about it. Do you think before you speak (or type!)?

Just keep up what you're doing...I don't think Ill be the one who looks like the jackass here.

I didn't notice the power specs on the device I linked to. As I said, I was only giving an example of the type of device available. It would have been more responsible of me to link to a specific device that would work for our purposes.

However I think you can correct people while also being polite and not talking down to them.
