USB Manual Passthrough

Hello everyone! I am new to the forum, but long time reader. I just got my first Vapor King kit today (vapor4life.com) and am really excited to stop smoking analogs. When I first got this kit I noticed it came with this battery looking thing attatched to a usb chord. Not knowing what this was I looked it up on vapor4life.com and realized I could start vapping right away. This excited me because I have done some homework on ECF and knew it was best to charge my batteries for up to 8 hours before first use. I loaded up some white chocolate Wow Vapor juice (36 mg) in a blank cart and instantly was able to vape. I have been vapping away all day, but couldn't help but notice a strong throat hit. I expecte some kind of a hit in my throat, but this seemed to almost burn and sting for a wile.

My question would be, is this common with the usb passthough, or have more to do with my 36 mg choice of juice? I would love any feed back concerning this burn i get in regard to wht may be causing such a burn. Thanks everyone for your help.

It's a little bit of both! 36mg juice is going to give a pretty strong TH no matter what device it's put into, but that is compounded by the PT. Most PT's give you a 4.5-5v vape, which is a LOT hotter than the battery will produce, increasing flavor, vapor, and TH by significant amounts.

As you seem to be new, I'll also offer you a tip so you don't ruin anything :) Don't use the PT on your computer!! Passthroughs can draw 1.5-2 amps, and a computer's USB port is only designed to put out 0.5a (500mA), using a passthrough on your computer can possibly damage your motherboard beyond repair. You should be using a USB wall adapter or Powered Hub (Hub with a wall power supply) for your PT.

36mg + high PG juice content + 5V = one hell of a TH.

If you want less TH then I would suggest getting juice with less PG in it. You can also try lowering the nic level if you're comfortable with that.

And you DON'T have to charge new batteries for 8 hours. Those instructions are obsolete and come from the days of NiCad batteries. They don't apply to the Li-Ion batteries used today. Just FYI.

Yeah for best results get an AC to USB adapter. You might even have one already if you have a usb charger for a cell phone.

Also don't worry about charging your batteries for 8 hours first. Lithium batteries wont benefit from that. Usually they come partially charged... just charge them til the light changes.

Dang! 36mg on a PT, I'd probably be coughing, holy crap.
I bought some 24mg pre-filled cartos but they're a bit too strong, too acrid for me. I like 18 though -- decent TH, much like the marlboro reds I used to smoke, except they don't kill you. :)

Nicotine content is directly related to throat hit. I've tried lights (6mg) and although they still produce vapor and taste, it's not quite enough.

For some reason, most passthroughs are giving 4.9V or thereabouts. This is the top end of a very good battery when it's just been charged, then the voltage declines. Unlike batteries though, PTs keep giving this voltage because they don't run out. This leads to about 1 to 1.5 amps on every drag. Even if you have a wall charger, make sure it delivers at least 2 amps (those phone charger adapters don't do the job, cos most of them are 300mA to 500mA). You can get usb hubs with external power supplies (and these days they're small and light), they are usually rated 2amps, especially if they have loads of ports. Just read the small print on the base of them.

So if thats the case will using a pass thru eventually burn up a standard atty quicker? Would it be better to get a different atty to use when vaping thru a PT? If so what one would you suggest to give the best performance?

Another day something new learned! Thanks!

That "some reason" is of course the USB ports voltage of 5.0 volts, minus some voltage drop due to the cable length and the extremely heavy current draw of an atomizer/cartomizer -- it's *way* above USB spec.

If you push the button as long as you push it on a normal battery then yes -- you get more vapor, and you use up the juice and everything quicker.. Once you get used to it, though, you may find that your drags are much shorter on the PT than on the (lower voltage) battery, so I would think it evens itself out.
