Here's one for the experts, because quite frankly, I'm like a tree in a lumberjack contest. I'm stumped.

I bought 3 801 USB Passthrough manual batteries from two different sources. I've been using them, but for some strange reason, I'm not getting the same throat hit and in some cases, vapor production, than I get with the automatic batteries. It seems that the auto batts do a better job than the USB manuals.

Could my USB ports not be providing the power? I tried three different ports with the same results. The kick is just not there with these passthroughs.

If it is the case my USB ports are not providing the power needed, is there any suggestion to an adapter to use to plug it into the wall? Most wall to USB adapters do not work with these things. Thanks.

From my experiance, the 901's do better on the USB computer port than the 801's do. The 901's give great vapor and throat hit far above the 801's on a standard computer USB port. That is because the standard USB port on a computer only delivers 100ma to 450ma depending on the computer. I use the Kensington USB charger for my battery packs, it delivers 1000ma of power and the 801's work great on them but the 901's give a burnt taste after awhile.

On a standard 801 I get 3.8 ohms resistance
On a standard 901 I get 3.3 ohms resistance
On a standard 510 I get 2.1 ohms resistance

So for a 510 is does not requie as much voltage or ma as say the 901 and the 801, but the 801 would require more voltage and amperage than the other two. One constant should be 1000ma of power, the same voltage on a 801 at optimum 5-6 volts would result in a burnt taste in the 901 and 510. The reason it works better at say 3.7 volts is your batteries provide more amperage than a USB computer port.

Hope this helps.

A Veteran asking the "Experts." This is interesting.:)

Kent and Scubabatdan have provided more technically-astute answers than I can. But, as an 801 user, perhaps I can offer some additional anecdotal experience and one observation that might be helpful.

I'm not sure why those manual PTs are less effective than auto batteries, but it is consistent with my experience. The one manual 801 battery I tried was less effective than my auto batts. And my one 801-compatible (BE112) manual passthrough was terrible. I think they are just poorly implemented.

Also keep in mind that these are not "true" passthroughs. They simply are charging the inline battery, unlike the much more expensive ($70) Puresmoker PT, for example. For less money (especially for those in the UK), I'm pretty sure that e-cigcity.co.uk 's PTs also are true passthroughs.
