I have a 2011 Kia Sorento, and it has a usb port in the dash for connecting the iPod, and i was just wondering if i was gonna be able to plug my Mega t-rex charger into it to keep me going on a long car ride? Anyone might possibly know.
I wonder about this too. My CD/MP3 player in my ford ranger has a USB slot. If it worked charging I would buy a usb charger then I can use it with my laptop and my ranger!
Well i found out that the usb ouputs 5v(which seems pretty standard for everything but in computers), but i'm not sure on the amps still. I think it should be good as long as the Kia will let it connect. I couldn't use my regular iPod cable to connect it to my radio it had to be the Kia manufacturer cable.

Yes, assuming that the USB port in your Kia adheres to the USB specifications for power availability. If, however, you have to use a special cable, then the port in your Kia is not, in fact, a USB port, so your guess is as good as mine. If I had to bet, though, I'd bet that it will work, based on the fact that you can run an iPod on it.
I haven't used the one in my Kia yet but i used one that has the two usb ports for an iPod, and it worked just fine and it was rated at 1 ah on the output so the charger does step it down like i thought. It makes me feel more comfortable about using the one built into the Kia.
