The box mine came in just said "Portable Mini Mixer" and "Made in China." There's no branding on the unit, either. I agree the Sper Direct base unit looks identical to the Norpro, but the sticks mine came with are notably thinner gauge (and they don't have the cuff on the attachment end).

It might be worthwhile to buy the Norpro for the extra attachments, which might make the mixer more multi-purpose. If the Norpro stirrer is too thick for some of your bottlenecks, you could always get the skinny ones from Sper. They'd probably fit the Norpro mixer too...at least I'd hope so.

I think it was someone with a different type of mixer who couldn't fit it in smaller bottles - I've never had problems with any of mine. I'd like to try out the extra sticks just to see, but as they're $34 + $20 shipping on amazon.ca I think I'll pass.

I don't have high hopes the unit will last long, it fairly cheaply built.

Yes, I have to agree with you there. I don't think it's in it for the long term.

I have a frother, a paint mixer and a magnetic mixer, still the best thing is a glass rod.

I scored a set of old school 1950's glass cocktail stirrers at a tag sale a while back and they work awesome as lab stir rods, plus they have cool tropical fish in glass on top of each one. :)

My wife has several of these in her bar.. They have glass parrots, flowers, and a fish or two.. Guess I might have to "borrow" a cpl....lol

If you read some of the threads on mixing there is a good reason to mix it so some bubbles form. And in that regard those stick mixers are wonderful. What it does, is make it so the "steeping" is already done. I use mine for about 3 minutes in my caramel flavored juice and I never have to steep it. You can use the juice right away.

I shake or mix mine probably way too much, sometimes frothy for the rest of the day. I still have to steep anything but a fruit juice to allow the flavors to settle in. Yes they are blended together but , for me, they still need time. That's for my taste though and taste is definetly subjective.

I bought one of the Norpro ones with the 4-piece attachments, from a seller on eBay, about 6-8 months ago. Have only used it for 2 mixes that contained custard flavoring. With the little stick type attachment in my 50mL bottles, it easily mixed both really well & quickly. It also for sure greatly shortened the time it took for them to be "their best" according to my tastes. Couple of days and they were wonderful!
