Hello all,

I'm a Chef by trade and am interested in using spices (caraway, fennel seed, etc...).
I am not finding spice flavors that are not oil based. (Please give me a link if you have one!)

I'm sure I would be able to grind a spice and infuse a VG base, possibly after an alcohol extraction,
I haven't worried about that part of the process yet.

After extraction/steeping the spices, if I used a 400 micron filter (just throwing a number out there, they
go down to 15 microns) would the resulting VG base be vape safe?

As an example, 800-400 micron filters are used to strain vegetable oil for use in bio diesel.

Hope I'm clear on this. With a small enough filter would the resulting liquid have particulate remains
that might damage my coils?

TIA

I can only help with the flavors that already exist - there are not a ton, but Inawera and FlavourArt have a few. I use FA (FlavourArt) Cardamom, Cinnamon Ceylon, Zen Garden and there are also florals like lavender and jasmine....and flavors they have in the spice world that I havent used - clove and anise.

IW (Inawera) has Rosemary, Anise, Spicy Biscuit, Chai, Chili, Cinnamon, Sesame, Exotic Roots and a few others that arent sticking out in my mind.

You can find both at lots of places - you can get small bottles of FA at purevapes and bullcity fairly inexpensive and IW at vapertek and bullcity for US or direct from Inawerashop.com.

Im curious to find out about extracting your own...will keep an eye over here!

Well, i think your filtering process would work. Let me tell you what I have done in my own experiments.

I use alcohol (vodka) infusion to make extracts. So far I have done roobois, cardamon and coriander(seed).

With the last two I crushed the seed pod and the seeds & steeped in the vodka for three days. I strained it once through a standard mesh strainer & then again with a doubled up non bleached melitta coffee filter. There was still some sediment but I was super careful when decanting to leave the sediment at the bottom of the glass after the 2nd filtering process. Yes, you lose about 2ml of extract but thats ok, as I was making 50ml batches of extract.

Then, i took the filtered extract and mixed with 100%VG for 5ml test batch (4ml VG, 1ml extract) for each. Put them into little 10ml glass bottles, with the tops off, into a saucepan. Then I slowly poured boiling water into the pan to be sure not to get it into my bottles. I let that cool, removed the bottles - shook the hades out of them.

I repeated the process above one more time. Left them to cool overnight with tops off and tested in my dripper.

I now have three new flavourings. So, yes, it does work. :)

Coriander is super yum mixed with Green Apple. Cardamon goes well with Coffee. My hubby calls it my Arabic collection (I am half Cypriot). I am plotting (haha) new recipes for both all the time in my head. (I am a geek).

One note however, I will make the flavouring with the VG as I need it. The remaining vodka flavourings are in glass jars, sealed, in the back of the cupboard.

Have fun!

Nancy

Interesting, so fresh juice doesn't gunk up coils, or is the amount so small it doesn't have an effect?
Those sound awesome!
