Minor Details
Just remember it's the empty suits with the big titles and political connections that run the place and set policies. My mail Lady has been delivering the mail here for 26 years and you can set your watch by her. She drops off my mail same time everyday and even brings it to the door if it's priority or 1st class and my mail box is a 1/2 mile away down the side of the mountain. The UPS flunky won't even come up my driveway, I have to go to the post office and pick up anything that ships UPS or FedX to my house.

All we need to do to fix the USPS is privatize it and let a real business mind run it.

LOL....already done in the seventies by Nixon. But they decided to let Congress be the President of the company.

I placed my order on the 13th first class, it arrived yesterday (15th) in Phoenix. I think it helps immensely that this is a major hub.

I have had live fish and shrimp, snails, plants etc shipped to me from the east coast. Extremely rare having a problem with Priority mail, major problems with UPS and Fed Ex. And they are way more expensive. I have also shipped fish a couple of times back east no problem using Priority. It is almost to the point I won't deal with someone who only does UPS or Fed Ex.

Anyway, overall, I am happy with the USPS and hope they can get all this stuff figured out.

Had to run out to the store early this morning to get some cream for my coffee and ran into my mail lady on her way to work. I told her I was expecting a first class package and she said she would keep an eye out for it. I normally get my mail at 2pm but at 8:30am there's a knock at the door and there is my mail lady holding my vape mail with my SI Nanos. Try to get that kind of service from UPS or FedX. Gotta make sure to put her on my Christmas list this year.

1st class = priority. only difference is that for larger packages you cannot do first class so you must do priority. so for smaller stuff, stick to first class its a better deal.

Do you happen to know the weight or size limits of 1st class? When I order my Nicotine, VG and PG I use the fixed price USPS boxes which can get down right expensive...

I believe the limit for 1st class is eleven ounces. Maybe a postal expert can help here.

I just ordered something from Texas on Friday morning. I got a shipping notification yesterday morning. The package was in ym mailbox yesterday afternoon. I sure ain't complaining about 1st class!

I believe USPS is in dire straits right now. In the last month and a half, what used to take 2 days is taking twice as long or more. I placed an order early Mon. morning, and it hasn't even been scanned in here, which is only a 6 hour drive away. The same happened with the last order. It appears I'll have to start placing orders a week+ ahead of time to even receive it when needed.

I suspect this may have something to do with it:

...As a result, the service is losing a staggering $36 million a day, after having generated an annual profit as recently as 2006.

On Aug. 1, 2012, The Postal Service, faced with continuing financial losses, defaulted for the first time on its annual payment for future retiree health benefits.

The $5.5 billion payment was deferred from the 2011 fiscal year. The Postal Service is also scheduled to make a $5.6 billion payment for 2012 in September, on which it is expected to default.

Hoping for Help From Congress

The Postal Service had hoped that Congress would help stanch the losses, as it did in 2011 when it deferred the payment. But the House has taken no action. The Senate passed a measure that provided incentives to retire to about 100,000 postal workers, or 18 percent of its employees, and allowed the post office to recoup more than $11 billion it overpaid into an employee pension fund.

That sucks.

Government run services have been snatching defeat from the jaws of victory since they decided to try and compete with the private sector. Unfortunately no matter how dismal the business forecast looks they have the deep pockets of the taxpayer to bail out their miserable attempts at being business owners. When will they learn?

I think you hit the nail on the head. The USPS IS a service not a business!
