JJ!!!Sorry to hear it Amraann! I really have no suggestions as I use just the basic liquid (aren't they all the same?). Currently I'm using a brand called Flea4x (from 1800petmeds, no price difference from anywhere else I've seen but I shop online as much as possible) because it's cheap and I haven't had an issue with it not working. I've never used Advantix, but I've used Frontline and Advantage with good results. When I go up to the country I buy the flea and tick spray and spray the dogs even though they have the liquid on them already. We've never had any issues with them.
I did want to say that when I put my work jacket on this morning there was a tick crawling on it and I freaked out!!! My mom picked it off and put it down the garbage disposal with about 5 gallons of hot water. I HATE ticks!! They give me the heebie-jeebies! I thoroughly checked my jacket but I'm still afraid that one is going to attach itself to me!!!! Tonight I'm checking the dogs!
ETA: After re-reading your post...are you asking how to remove them or how to prevent them? Because I have never had good results with shampoos or dips actually killing fleas (never tried them on ticks) they just stun them for a little while. One time, after an exceptionally bad infestation on some kittens we picked up, I bathed them in the sink. A few hours later there were seriously hundreds of fleas jumping out of the drain! It was a nightmare!

Ms. Amraann wish I could give you some suggestions. Every preventative we've tried hasn't worked. For some reason they don't go after Loki at all, Mario they will. Just like no matter what my wife does they go after her, only had a tick bite me once and it died from it (not kidding, my blood killed it).

Frontline, flea powder, and a flea collar. Fog the house too, but as long as they are outside where your dog is it's a battle.
I've heard of lawn sprays for fleas. Maybe they have them for ticks too?

We do live on a very heavily wooded property but hubby has treated the yard. We did fog the house as well.
Harmony I am more looking for a way to get rid of the ticks. I do have one other option that I can try and that is some very expensive drops that I can only get from the vet. Even she has said it is just been a rough couple of years for ticks. (Keep your fingers crossed that the prescription drops work!)

Good evening all...just wanted to update a little on dad. As I already knew in my heart he has stage 4 cancer of the lungs that has spread to the bones so not so good. We started radiation today which is suppose to make a huge difference in his pain level. Our family is very close and has been very blessed. We are all at peace with the future if we can just get dad's pain under control so he can enjoy life a little. I will tell you I hate being the oldest child....just kidding I would do anything for my parents, but I'm going to be pretty busy for awhile so please know I always read and try to stay caught up, just don't always have much to say.

God blessed me with grandchildren to brighten my day no matter how gloomy it may be. I also have my friends here that really do provide more support than they will ever know. At home and faced with this situation I am the Rock...actually do it pretty well, but can come here if I just need to unload and for that I am thankful.
