I also wanted to mention that I read somewhere that the Vamo V5 is starting to ship with Firmware KSD 6... apparently Siegel (sp?) is using them as well.

Please provide some support to back your claim. KSD is an entirely different company from sigelei. sigelei writes its own firmware. If a sigelei product displays KSD firmware then it is a clone (fake). I have seen no verified reports of Sigelei clones to this date.
Checking the firmware version is one way to verify authenticity of Sigelei product.
Sigelei firmware versions:
SI V1.1 Sigelei Zmax including first generation Mini, V2, V3 of 2013
SI V1.5a Sigelei Zmax including second generation Mini, V2, V3 beginning summer of 2013
SI V2.0a Sigelei Zmax firmware for all V5.
I will try to find the post I read on a separate forum. I don't know if it's authentic, just sharing in the interest of discussion.

It just changes the numbers that you see on the screen,
The voltage output is not flat dc, so instead an average voltage is used; a simple average is the 'mean' value, however, the RMS (Root Mean Square {squareroot of the mean of the squares}) value is a better average corresponding to what you would get on a flat dc output; (it better describes wattage and temperature).
My Vamo V5 has firmware version KSD V3.1 - and I still am unable to locate that thread.
I believe the Vamo and KSD are manufactured by "Shenzhen Kangside Technology Co., Ltd" they could share the same firmware. Not so sure that would apply to Sigelei.
I got a vamo v5 a couple of months ago and its as good as new. Just remember to check if its in RMS mode and not mean. Goodluck 
There are more than one Chinese company making Vamo. Although I haven't seen it for sale in the US market Sigelei does make a mod they call a Vamo. It has the three buttons, screen and a red display. I posted a Sigelei video last winter that shows them on the production line. besides mentioning Vamo in the introduction you can see one at :45 seconds into the video. I haven't got the slightest idea of what firmware version would show up on one of these.

My girlfriend had a vamo v5 and it seemed to work very well. That was until she dropped it into the toilet. So as long as you don't drop it in the toilet, it is excellent.
