After more than 50 years of smoking, I started to vape 2 weeks ago and love it. Have spent a ton of time and some money buying different gear and juices and have really got in to this thing. Even tried a few regular cigarettes while vaping and they were awful, so I don't expect to go back.

My question concerns the long haul.

Do folks like me who have smoked a long time stay with vape? Or is it kind of a short term thing to quit smoking, and you eventually lose the desire to vape? My guess is that I will want to get better and more sophisticated equipment over time and keep the vapor clouds rising:)

I smoked for 27 years, now a vaper for 9 months, and investing heavily in gear for the long haul. Already have a Provari and a couple clone mech mods, expecting the arrival of a 26650 mech, a high end 18650 mech, a DNA30 mod, and a 8.4 volt VV box mod. Figure best blow the 2014 budget early. lol.

I love everything vape, from regulated to mechs, to rba's and DIY juice.

Just some encouragement, OP. I was a smoker for 17 years and I have been vaping for just over 2 years and still love it!
Everyone is different, but after a month or so my brain started connecting my craving with vaping instead of a cigarette. It's a subtle shift, but you will recongnize it when it happens. If you get a craving for a cigarette, take a hit or two off your device until the cravings subside. After 50 years of smoking, it may not be an easy transition. Don't feel bad if you "fall off the wagon", it happens to everyone.

I was a two and a half pack a day for over 27 years. Just celebrated one year off of the analogs, I have had no desire to even try one of the analogs (knock on wood!) Started with vivi novas and ego's, went through protanks and provari mini, now using aspire products with the mini and mvp. The best part is "choosing" to vape. Since I work virtually from home office, I vape more than I would in the office, but still feeling better than I ever felt when I was a "smoker". Being a vaper is the safe choice, health and family is vital to me now. I don't ever plan on going back, best of luck to you, be safe!

I was a heavy smoker and dipper for 35 years. My original intent was to vape and cut down till I was at 0 nic then quit. I quite enjoy vaping and probably in it for the long haul. Or at a minimum until my "vapocolypse" stash is gone if our government decides to do something really silly.

I have no intentions of quitting, I just made up my first batch of 8mg nic liquid, cut down from 12. I'm making progress slowly - but even when I don't want anymore nicotine - I still plan on vaping, it'll just be cheaper to make liquids <3

Vaping, like many others, turned into a hobby of sorts for me. Just happens to not be the cheapest hobby in the world but I have more expensive ones (ie-building computers). I am in this for the long haul!

No reason to quit vaping. Just reduce your nic levels every 300ml until you're using nothing but 0 nic and then enjoy vaping all you want. You can have the best of both worlds, vaping like a mad man and 100% nicotine free.

That's my intent anyways.

I started vaping not to stop smoking, but for a convenience option. Since it's not smoke, it's safer to vape than smoke, so I vaped indoors when I didn't want to go outside and smoke. Now, I stopped smoking altogether, and have no wish to go back. Now, for this vaping, I will keep at it until I have no desire to. I don't plan on stopping vaping, but if it happens, it happens. Until then, I'm enjoying it, and have bought a few devices. Cigalikes, Ego batteries, two Vamos, and now I have a mech mod in the mail as we speak. I'm trying to keep the spending to a minimum, and so far, I'm enjoying it.

Since I cut down on the nicotine to 6mg, I hope if I do decide to stop vaping, it won't be hard to. It's all been a good decision with no down sides. I have become a semi-activist with this hobby, and I'm just trying to spread the word. However, in the meantime, I am trying new avenues and enjoying the ride. :)

I really think it depends on what you personally want to get out of it. Lots of smokers I meet have at least tried vaping. I find the smokers who think it is the "cool" thing to do will relapse after a few weeks, mainly due to lack of research and ignorance. I think people who are introduced to vaping in a more formal setting, and take the time to research all the cool tech they can buy, will generally stay with it for the long haul!

Congratulations on ditching the smokes yooperdad! Its especially impressive that you made the decision to break a five decade habit. After being a smoker for 18 years, i've been vaping for about a year and a half. Although i've lowered my nicotine level, i don't see myself stopping any time soon. If your goal is to eventually quit nicotine altogether, thats great. If you keep vaping long term, thats fine too. At least you switched to a far less harmful nicotine delivery system and got rid of all the other chemicals & carcinogens you were inhaling from the cigarettes.

My response (by a 60yr+ smoker) is that I will never go back to analogs and that I will probably never stop vaping. After two+ months and a great education, thanks to ECF, my cough is gone, my breathing is much better, and I feel much better. Vaping is the greatest thing since sliced bread. Just saying.

Smoked for 44 years and vaped for 2 yrs..."quit" vaping at the 2 yr mark. Still vape zero Nic occasionally on weekends, at parties or when stressed BUT can go without for weeks or months without issue. As far as going back to smoking the answer is never as I do have vaping to fall back if the need should ever arise.

Thanks for all of the replies, encouragement, and positive vibes regarding the switch to vape. My wife is a smoker (Salem 100 full flavor) and for almost as many years as me. I'm gently encouraging her in this direction as well, and did pick up some Dekang Green USA Mix which I actually enjoy myself. I think there's hope for her as well.

Thanks again for the replies. I have to go check the mail to see if any new juice has arrived today :)

Good for you "olefolks". You and I both should provide the incentive for the younger folks.
