I'm from Iowa, I moved here because the winters were so mild....

got this in an email this week by the way......apparently, from Foxworthy...

Well regarding the Michigan stuff. I got all of them- and I'm a Chicago transplant.

Michigan to me, is like Chicago without traffic. The cultures are mostly the same (except UP), the people are cool, and there's room to breath (outside of Detroit).

I might hate the winter, but as a Chicago boy I've had it as bad already. I've hit a deer personally, at 70mph, and consider it a badge of honor.

Having lived near Louisville for a couple of years prior it was total culture shock. Returning to midwest was medicine to my soul.

One of these days companies will discover all the cheap industrial property and industrial infrastructure and things will begin getting better here. This is actually one of my pet projects, trying to get tech companies interested in coming to Michigan, rather than brain draining us. I've considered forming a non profit to advocate this, but in the current economy funding looks very thin. And since I have some non profit experience, I know how thorny it is right now.

Sorry to rant on. I do love this state. It is a place of stark contrasts- winter/summer, prosperity/poverty, diversity and integration. In many respects it showcases the best and worst of the USA.

But it is so very *real*.

I'm gonna be there, whether you want me to be or not.:)

Oh No! Not THAT! :)
JK, lookin' forward to meeting you.
We haven't already met have we?

Hey Brad (and everybody else), I'm making plans for a MI vapers BBQ for this spring here at my place. I think I can get the Wiz and DR. Fred to bring over their smokers and I have one just like the Wiz's. I also have a big Webber gas grill. I'm on 5 wooded acres with a pole barn so there's plenty of room. It'd be nice if you could limp the hoopty down here for that one Brad. I'd like to meet ya. Think we might get along pretty well. I'll make a thread about this when the plans start to gel.

Clear roads and a BBQ. Sounds good to me. I've been wanting to meet the Wiz and and some others too. I'll bring my guitar and a tent if you don't mind.

I have a clearing in the back of the woods with a second fire pit and it's own driveway Brad. We had seven tents around it for my retirement party and 15 people for breakfast the next morning. THAT was a good party.

Sounds really cool. I'll take a tent over $65 for a Motel room. I'll bring some of my Pork Sausage for the morning. Some homemade salsa and tortillas too. You can do them up right on an open fire or BBQ grill. Best thing is no clean up. No spoons or forks or plates. Nadda, just your fingers might get a little hot.

Very cool. I'm hoping that the offer of smoked meats will bring out the vapers. We love to throw parties out here. There were over 90 people at my retirement bash. We throw a party every Memorial weekend and I had a good Halloween party this year. I'm going to talk to my son in law about brewing a keg of something good too. He's a good brewer. He brews for Frog Island Brewery in Ypsilanti.

I don't drink a whole lot but I have had Frog Island beer. Pretty darn good. I try not to drink when I play guitar, it just throws my timing way off. I'll make it down even if I have to rent a car. It really sounds like fun. I would love to bring my wife but whe have an autistic son and he can't be left alone.

Ps, If you or your family has a favorite song or two let me know. I'll make sure I have it down, so I can play it for you. Doesn't matter, country, rock whatever.
