Since I've switched from an ego to a mech mod with RDA I've noticed that I get really drowsy immediately following a few vapes. It's not that bad when I'm at home because I can usually take naps, but when I'm at work on break it gets really annoying. I fell asleep in my car the other day and have started setting my alarm on my phone so I dont take too long of a break.

I've read a few other posts about this symptom. Some get defensive and deny that vaping has anything to do with it. This may have to do with a pseudo-stigma surrounding talking about negative side effects of vaping. I understand that this is still a new world and lot of people want to stop it before it over takes cigarettes completely. My thoughts are that its too late for that, but I've been wrong before. Anyway, I've seen this commonality on multiple forums, where someone says "Does anyone else have this symptom, I think (insert suspected reason) is causing it." Then someone comes out of left field with, "No it can't be this causing it because nicotine is a stimulatnt", well it's a fact in the medical world that some chemicals behave differently at different serum levels. And it's ususally polar opposite effects in those cases.

My point is, people should know their own bodies much better than someone they've never met on a forum. And when multiple people start threads and comment stating they have had similar symptoms or experiences, then there is likely something going on here. Most habits have positives and negatives that come along with them and it's not right to just turn the other shoulder and pretend that something is just 100% perfect. I love vaping and DIY'ing and I'm not going to let drowsiness stop me. I just believe that in spite of keeping appearances, ignorance is not the answer. So for anyone experiencing this or any other negative side effects, don't let someone tell you that your crazy and don't know what your talking about stop you from finding your answer. Never stop learning and always seek the truth.

Interesting Josh, I've never heard of this before and have not experienced it myself and I've vaped 6 mg nic at 40 watts in RDA's. These days I typically vape zero nic and I also have not experienced it with that at 70 watts. IMO it's probably not the nic that's causing this but something else in your juice. If I was having this symptom from vaping I would consider it quite serious and stop vaping until I figured out what was causing it.

I mean think about this for a minute. You're doing something that makes you drowsy enough to take a nap every time you do it. This is scary dude!!!

Something's wrong. Don't take the chance, stop vaping and get checked out by a doctor :thumb:

Seems to me you could provide a whole lot more details about what you are vaping and what your hardware is.

For one thing:
Since I've switched from an ego to a mech mod with RDA
So you switched from an eGo to a mech mod and rda.
Are you vaping the same liquid/s as before.
What nicotine strength.
What power level are you vaping at.
What if you vape your old tank on your mech.

I would be interested in other aspects of your lifestyle. Let me elaborate.
During a particularly tiring OTR run I was heading towards the house. I was beat, chain smoking like you wouldn't believe. Downing sugar/caffeine loaded drinks. You name it. I stopped at a truck stop 50 miles from home. One last energy drink should do it. I forget the brand but it was basically liquid caffeine with sugar boosters.
I didn't make it 5 miles after drinking it. Parked the truck and passed out fully clothed.
Doc told me stimulants cause the body to create and release adrenaline. Like everything else, that part/gland gets tired as well. Over stimulation can cause the opposite effect. The stimulant worked better than any depressant ever had.
Just a thought. If it keeps happening check with your doc to evaluate the situation. Good luck

I am well aware of the different ways different drugs can cause very different side effects in people. So I don't see why it would be any different for nicotine. I would be concerned first that there may be an underlying medical issue. A long time ago I started becoming drowsy all the time and it continued to get worse. It ended up that I had hypothyroidism. Now I am at the other end of the spectrum. I vape approximately 20 hours a day. Go figure.

Good luck to you and thank you for your post. Please give us an update and let us know how you are doing.

I also have had that experience with vaping. I forgot where I read it exactly but that was one of the effects of too much nicotine. I have had diff lvls of nic, diy's, name brands as well as unflavored, all with the same effect of getting drowsy. I would drop the nic lvl on them and it would go away but that is what and how my body handles it. I also switched to using RDAs and found that @12 nic mg/ml, I would get really dizzy but with my own DIY being 5.44 nic mg/ml, let the good clouds roll.....My MVP and tank setup Nautilus I range from 16-19 mg/ml and never get dizzy or sleepy. Your not the only one. Good post.

You're not alone. I've also previously suspected that vaping was causing some strange kind of lethargy for me.

I'm yet to point the finger a vaping specifically, but it could be a factor.

Truth is I simply don't care. Lately I've been exercising at the (much) higher intensity that I used to when I smoked full time as well as eating more of the right kinds of foods and also making sure I get plenty of sleep and sunshine and I feel better than I ever did as a smoker. Better than I ever have in my entire life actually.

Due to the above mentioned lifestyle changes my stress levels have plummetted and my "drive" ;) ;) has soared causing all sorts of unexpected knock on benefits despite occasionally feeling lethargic.

I vape the crappy dekang 24mg menthol fairly constantly throughout the day and have done almost exclusively for the last 2 years. I will look at changing my juice if it ever becomes a problem again.

I guess all I'm saying is that you may have a legitimate cause for concern and it may disappear almost entirely if you concentrate on tackling any any and all factors that cause issues like you've described.

It might also be worth getting a blood test and look at thyroid function and SHBG levels as these things have been known to have an effect on vitality.

I've always had bouts of extreme sleepiness, especially for an hour or so after meals. In my teens and early twenties I could hardly stop moving without getting droopy eyed and yawning. Since I started vaping I have noticed it's not quite as bad, though. I have some days where it's just like normal, but most days I stay alert now.

When I was still smoking cigs, It got to where I was drinking an energy drink in the morning, and one an hour or so after lunch so I could make it through the rest of the day yawn free. I am still in the habit of buying two every morning on my way to work, but sometimes forget to drink the afternoon one.
