It just occurred to me: when some city or state or country proposes a stricter smoking ban, odds are some smokers will contact politicians to object. So politicians may well be primed to ignore our contacts on the grounds that we are a "special interest group." But how many families and friends of smokers would support them in that? Only other smokers!
However, MY family is thrilled that I've switched to vaping. I'm going to start mentioning that in letters and phone calls as I make them.
And I have also told EVERYBODY in my family to be prepared to write or call Congresscritters if the FDA's proposed deeming regulation threatens my smokefree status.
Unfortunately, some of them have responded with "give me a petition and I'll sign it" which is discouraging because those don't count anywhere NEAR as much as an individual call or letter. But it makes me wonder if we should also start a petition that says "I, the signer, certify that I do not smoke or use Electronic Cigarettes, but I have a friend or loved one that I believe will revert to smoking if his/her choice of electronic cigarette devices and flavors are restricted by the FDA. This is doubly painful because there is NO science showing harm from e-cigarettes that remotely compares to the harm from smoke inhalation. Please do not allow the FDA to send my loved one back to smoking over ideological reasons with no scientific support."
(Not that I know how to start such a thing or where to put it, since my relatives are NOT going to join ECF....)
