Well, that's promising.

Do let us know how the call goes, if you can.
First we'll see if I get a call. I might not fit the age range they are looking for. I might still be disqualified by additional questions not yet asked. Then there is my side of it. Are they trying to find out something that interests me? Do they require personal information I'm not willing to disclose?

Their come on is interesting.
"We are looking for vapers to describe their experiences with vaping, including positive, exciting, and enjoyable aspects of vaping in an online study."

Hmm...Smoking is a waste of time. vaping is a less expensive and less deadly waste of time. I like the feeling of nic in my system. I like the gadgets--a little. Saving $3,000 a year is pretty cool. But the "pleasure" comes from being reminded I'm not a smoker any more and that I've helped a couple other people accomplish the same.

I got a second email asking my age, what US time zone I'm in and when I'm available to talk by phone. I responded with that information.
I got that same email, says if you meet the requirements you will get a call within 2 days,if my phone rings cool,if not, well that's cool too haha.

I found this web page asking for participants for a survey about vaping. Apparently a department of the college is going the survey.
Students Needed for E-Cigarette Survey
I'm sure it's not the same organization that started this thread. What would you learn from a survey of college kids who vape? See, see! They enjoy it! Shame on them!

So may be those of us who may be a bit older than college kids won't get the call because the purpose of the survey is to get fodder for claiming vaping is such a huge threat to kids that it must be banned, blah blah blah. I'm betting if I don't get a call back it's because I'm not a college kid.

I have a really, really, REALLY bad attitude toward the public health field. I wonder how that happened.

The link you posted is Arkansas.
The Thread here is for Virginia Commonwealth University.

Sadly, I believe you might onto something.

:(

Nope, It is a Student level Study - As most college studies are. Teachers and administrators just Deal out assignments.

I am now Qualified for the 3 Part Survey. I am 62 yrs old.
Maybe I can help them in completing their task(Which sounded Positive from short discussion) and help the community through positive participation.

:)

I'm aware that the other study is probably unrelated. Were you contacted by phone? I missed a call today from a private line with 202 area code. No message left though.

Consider sharing some of the interesting questions in the thread. What do you think they are trying to learn?

Yes, contacted by Phone. About a 15 minute call, covering all the basic expectations of participation and confirming a Few facts, like Citizenship, State of Residence/etc.

Will give a little Detail once I go through the Questionnaire. 5 Grand kids in the house ATM so no higher Brain Function left over for focused answering of an important study.
Brain Cells...............waste not, want not :D

Or, they may just be looking for people with positive attitudes? I stated when I first inquired, that I was 55 years old, and loved vaping. I then got the follow up email. That may bode well as to the purpose of the study..

Thanks for the info. Keep it coming. There might be a correlation between the number of years someone smoked and particular attitudes toward's vaping. The fishing for physical or psychological effects suggest they are expecting to hear about a level of psychoactivity that would be more associated with alcohol or those generally illegal substances we don't mention here. For hardware preferences how do they account for hobby vapers who use a variety of different devices.

All bicycles are governed by identical physics but road bike riders and bmx bike riders have very little to talk to each other about. Something like that is happening with vaping.

What I would be asking, and may be they will, is what ohm/watts do you run at most of the time? Do you buy pre mix or DIY? What percent of your budget is spent in local B/W, how much online? How many ml per day at what nic percent? How long were you a dual users or are you still a dual user? Are you a never smoker? RDA's or tanks? Mech mods or regulated? Built in batteries or replacable batteries? I might be asking, what kind of vaper are you?

So basically you are asking for a vaper to design the survey.
:)

I have taken so many surveys in my life, and most of them are almost untakeable.
There are always too many questions without relevant or applicable answers.

Maybe in my next life I will design surveys.
It's something I am very good at.

My guess is there is nobody on their team who has a clue about vaping. That seems to be true about most of the people who defend us, a notable exception being Dr. F. Even then we all have our personal niches and those can express some very different motiviations. You're not going to understand vapers if you assume they are all doing the same thing for the same reasons.

I walked in to a B/W for the first time in some months. They were showing an rda with a huge deck with a LOT of room for many coils. The negative post had 4 mounting holes. That peice of equipment doesn't have a whole lot to do with staying away from cigarettes. There were only 2 vapers in the shop but it was hard to see clearly from one end of the space to the other through the haze. I couldn't find anything that interested me. It's a different world. I also don't think they are particularly interested in nicotine. There may be significant potential for a vaping fad that doesn't involve nicotine (how will the FDA demonize or regulate that). So which kind of vapers do the researchers want to learn about?

That is one of the more profound statements I've read in my nearly seven years here.
And yet so clear and so simple.

That is signature-worthy material right there.

That much Was on part 1 of the Personal Data of the Study.
Lots of questions involving Equipment, Nic levels, Amount of Daily use, etc.
Several questions for Dual users, amounts Daily, etc.

Remember, a study can not be so Casual as to become meaningless, nor so in Depth as to lose sight of the intended goal.

This Study is About - Enjoyable E-cig Use

I am disappointed, From the minimal interest - exposed in this thread, at the Lack of Member Participation. Any change to even Possibly portray Vaping in a Better Light should be a Goal worth attempting to achieve.
