I have been vaping for about 46 days now and I love it, have not touched an analog cigarette since that time. I am a 24 year veteran of analogs.

I may vape for about 3 to 5 minutes stop for 5 minutes then vape again. This cycle may go on for 30 to 40 minutes and a break for 1 hour and then cycle starts once more.

Thanks for all the detail you give, vadim. Most helpful in answering your questions.

The fact is we do not know for sure if vaping is "safe", but the data shows that it is certainly safer than smoking. And that there are no reported significant injuries from vaping certainly helps the safer claim. PVs have been in the US for about 5 years, which is not an enormous time, so the label of "safe" might be a bit premature, but the data is good so far. Remember, PVs are meant to be an alternative to smoking, not something that a non-smoker or non-tobacco-user would just pick up. Comparative safety is most probably. Absolute safety needs more time.

Quitting a tobacco habit is difficult, and while many do quit it 100% with an ecig, it is not what the device was meant to do. Nicotine is the main psychoactive alkaloid in tobacco, but not the only one. Some people still need the other alkaloids, and find relief in smokeless tobacco products like snus or snuff. Some still need a few analogs a day. Again, the ecig is not a smoking cessation system...although it has so far a much better track record than the FDA approved cessation products, like gums or patches or drugs.

Your lack of sleep and lethargy might be from a couple of things. I am not a doctor, however, and so far we do not have medical docs in this expert forum. I give comments here based on personal experience and the postings of others, and some biochemical and medical knowledge.

The first month or so is an adjustment period, and some issues do not arise until after a month or so. You may actually be not getting enough nicotine, even if you are vaping often. Many have to start with a higher nic level than they think, since the absorption of nic from vaping is not as efficient or the same mechanism as with smoking...and it is different for everyone, and does not follow a general equation. It might be 24 mg is better for you right now. If you are not feeling woozy, nauseous or with racing heart or loose stools, you are not getting too much nic. So one suggestion is to up the nic a bit.

What you are describing is similar to what I went through right around the one-month point. I also found that the PG vehicle of the juice was causing dryness problems and it seemed sleep problems too. After I switched to VG juices, and allowed myself to use as much nic as I felt like, the symptoms left. I now am very comfortable with 12 mg juices, or less, but occasionally I need a few hits of higher nic.

You can find more discussion and info in the Health and Safety forum:

Health, Safety and E-Smoking - E-Cigarette Forum

There are threads about the other alkaloids in tobacco in the Nicotine forum:

As I said, the first 5-6 weeks are not easy for some, but with some level adjustments most come to a nice equilibrium over time. Be patient with yourself. Quitting smoking all at once is quite a jolt to the system, and the ecig is not my any stretch a magic bullet.
