If you try to swipe them away, it only makes them angry.

Same, never heard the term in my 37 years, but I like it. It didn't even occur to me that bees would eat meat. "Yellowjackets" I know, though. Yellowjackets is still kind of fun.. imagining bees wearing tiny windbreakers or something.

Meat Bees. It just sounds terrifyingly fun.

Meat Bees....Meat Bees.....Meat Bees.

Would make a great name for a rock band.

In the worst case scenario they can make it absolutely impossible to eat your bacon and eggs breakfast while river rafting.

LOL, I just laughed out loud. First World Problems!

Rest assured I just meant that saying meat bees is fun.

I have noticed Mosquitos like me now  Darn it! That was one good thing about smoking, a nice smoke screen to ward against those pesky pests.

Have you tried rubbing witch hazel on any exposed skin? Last year we moved into a house with a bunch of old growth trees around it and around dusk the mosquitoes are plentiful and voracious! But they don't "bug" me at all with the witch hazel. :)

When I was a kid, this place opened up called the "Pop shop"......you could buy different soda in glass bottles by the case, bring your empties back, and get more...
Business was slow at first, like WTH is a "Pop" shop?!?!?!?!?! Where did this whole "pop" thing start? It's SODA!!!!! LOL!.....we blamed it on people from Utah.....

Yeah, I'm the kind of guy that will catch a bee or a spider in the house and take it outside.
And I try not to step on ants if I can help it.

But trapping yellowjackets is just something that has to be done.
They will go to war to get your food, and war is war.
:)

Me, too. Spiders are good for controlling flying insects. Bees I try to wave to another part of the yard. It's amusing how people plant beautiful flower gardens and complain about the bees. It's just part of the cycle. Yellowjackets are dead meat if they go near my traps. They kill bees and butterflies and other and insects, good and bad.

That's why they come after me now instead of the wife. Used to attack her and leave me alone, now the other way around.

I guess that depends... do they go after your pop or your soda?

A LONG TIME AGO when hunting in Georgia I was drinking a coke and when I took a swallow, one was in the can, stung me on the tongue. Hurt like :censored: and I could not talk for a couple of days. ALWAYS kept my coke covered after that.

Vape On

I just don't go out after dusk. :)

They have sterile flowers!

actually mosquitos like carbon monoxide, and my cat loves the smell

Only the females that draw blood are attracted to CO2 (carbon dioxide). Now the females and males hatch together and fly around together, the problem with attracting them by vaping I suspect is indeed sweet flavors. The male mosquito's only source of food is nectar from plants, it is the only thing they feed on. So if the males are attracted by the vape the females may follow being they are in the area and need the males for....well ya know.

Yellow jackets. They are in some ways a lot like hummingbirds in that they need both carbs and protein. If putting out traps provide both meat and liquid. They do need more protein while tending a hatched nest and that's when they get real aggressive around food and will swarm an area, other wise they tend to go to both protein and liquid traps.

A trap can also create more problems by luring more yellow jackets to your area, it's a balance that only the property owner can decide. Also a trap that allows some to escape is a good idea, the will return to the nest and bring all their friends back with them for an easy meal there by trapping more and more of the dirty bxxxxxxs.
