vaping and chronic nausea - medicinal e-juice?

hey guys!

so, weird question. i heard recently that they make e-juice with melatonin to help you sleep, e-juice with caffeine to keep you awake.. i was wondering if any of you had heard of any lines of medicinal or homeopathic e-juice?

i have an illness called gastroparesis. basically, my digestive system is paralyzed and can't move food through the way it should. i'm on a liquid diet, am down to 85 pounds, and am constantly nauseous and in pain. vaping really helps me with food cravings and helps with the whole oral fixation thing, but being in a constant state of nausea makes it hard for me to find flavors i can continue to vape. i'm sure you all have foods that you might have eaten when you had the flu or something, and now can't stand the sight of.. it's like that for me, but with soooo many things, because i feel like i have the flu all the time! many of my former favorite vapor flavors i now can't stand to even smell, because i used them when i felt really sick, and now they remind me of vomit. :p it's a bummer to spend a bunch of money on e liquid that i LOVE initially and then, weeks later, want to ditch them because the sight of them makes me sick.

do any of you have suggestions on how to keep this from happening? i've thought about keeping an unflavored liquid around for when i feel especially sick, but it just sounds so unappealing and boring, considering i'd be vaping unflavored more often than not if i tried to avoid my other flavors when i felt sick. i've also thought about maybe trying a ginger flavor, too, but i don't know if inhaling ginger would do anything for my stomach.

maybe i should do some research and see if a line of herbal juices for different ailments would be something that would actually work and/or interest people.

what do you guys think?

My sympathy on what must be a really difficult situation! Have you considered DIY? By having some flavors on hand, and the ability to change every aspect of your juice, you might be able to tailor something based on how you feel at that moment? I imagine you tried all of the standard prescription anti nausea meds, and I know that most of those have limited effectiveness over time.

What about vaping non-food flavors? Nausea is strongly tied to memories of flavors; perhaps vaping other types of flavors might help? I know I'm reaching! Good luck!

i must say that the tea flavors and more herbal/less sweet flavors - lavender, earl grey, jasmine, cherry blossom - tend to be the ones i gravitate toward when everything else makes me wanna gag. anything sweet is a no go when i feel really sick... i originally was obsesssssed with a maple waffle flavor i have, and now the thought of anything vaguely maple or waffle flavored is pretty much the grossest thing i can think of. it really would be a good idea for me to get into DIY, so i can switch it up when i have to. for now i'm stowing away the flavors that make me feel sick and hoping that i can go back to them in a few months, after not thinking about them for a while. ;)

i have tried the prescription nausea meds, and they help, but unfortunately i am super sensitive to anything that can make you drowsy, and even the meds that are supposed to have less of an effect on your energy levels put me in bed for 24 hours. i only take them when i am not able to hold down liquids and don't have to do anything the next day. hoping i'll find something that works without the crazy side effects soon. i feel like this illness is slowly taking away my ability to do everything i once enjoyed/loved. it's a giant pain in the .....

thanks so much for your reply! i appreciate it. :)

Unflavored is actually really good sometimes. I have a lot of GI issues, had a total proctocolectomy in 2007 and have had ongoing issues since due to a genetic autoimmune condition, and I vape exclusively unflavored when my nausea is very bad - but I like it other times too. It isn't actually devoid of flavor - sort of reminscent of a very light cigarette. It's good when I have vaper's tongue and everything tastes icky. I sure hope you can find some relief soon in any case!

thanks! i will have to pick up a bottle. i usually do a 50/50 blend in my juices, but is there any ratio or brand you'd recommend, or does it matter much? it would be very good for me to have on hand, i think. :)

Have you tried the tea flavors, Chi,oolong etc! I also have heard that peppermint and spearmint are great for nausea try it in a vape if you can find it. It might be a flavor concentrate you can add to plain unflavored juice when you need it and taylor to your taste at the time. Lemon and lime flavors also are good for gastric upset, a few drops of just concentrated lemon juice in unflavored might help. I also like Vapeing just plain VG with low nic 6mg and distilled water (just a few drops) it tastes pretty good( very slight sweet flavor). I think your just going to have to experiment and use yourself as a test subject. Lots of luck, let us know what you find that helps you.

I like 50/50, I'd think whatever you prefer in other juices would be good. =)

carophil, I feel for you. That must be very hard to deal with. The suggestions of spearmint/peppermint/lemon or lime all sound great, and as a apprentice herbologist I can see where they might help. The ginger might help, too. I used the ginger flavoring until I ran out. It was actually quite good and I got it from Ecblends. All the best, Mountaingal

Bad one that...

Don't get too worked up about the caffeine. Doesn't dissolve very well or rather re-crystallizes in the liquid if too much. Absolute values for caffeine in liquids don't even come in shouting range of a good ole mug o'coffee - which fits the requirement for things liquid. Unless coffee is on the things upsetting your works too ...

Guess on-the-spot DIY is where you're eventually headed : Means one bottle with unflavoured and a few tiny vials with flavours - mixed directly in the clearo ( wont work too well with cartos I'm afraid ) . So you minimize 'exposure' to the same flavour before it goes 'yuck' on you...

No idea if there's anything you could blend into your liquids to help you with the nausea, need to pick the brains of some physicians on that one...

what do you guys think?

Motility issues suck, sorry you are going thru this. I have the opposite problem in rapid stomach emptying

Here's what I would do. Buy your own DIY nic solution in whatever vg/pg ratio you like.

Instead of vaping unflavored, buy some flavorings you kinda like, and put like ONE DROP into 10ml or more of your nic solution. That will just give it a tiny hint of flavor.

seems to me you would be better off not chasing vendor flavors.
