Vaping and Hunting

I`ve been thinking with archery whitetail deer hunting coming up how vaping would affect deer hunting. Was just curious if there were any other hunters who converted here, and what their thoughts were? It was so hard to sit all day and not smoke, I`d always cave after about 2 hours on a good day. Rifle season I never worried much because there are so many people in the woods smoking and making noise, not to mention the distance advantage.

But would you think that vaping could at the very least not put us at a disadvantage, and at best with the right flavor put us in an advantage? This is a thread posed to other hunters, so antis please respect that on this forum we are all vapers and ignore this post if you find it offensive. There are other places to voice your opinion, I don`t have that option with my question. TIA

This is one thing I am actually looking forward to. Me and my dad are both rifle hunters and the smoking, or lack of, was always a pain for me. I keep trying to get him to convert over to vaping and hunting has been one of my main points with him. But much like you already said, with all of the other hunters making noise and smoking and the johnny come latelys tramping through the woods, i dont see where vaping or smoking will hurt much. I never really thought of the vanilla vape. That could actually work.

And one quick hunting story from this past year. Me and pops was all set up, been out there for hours. We are at the foot of the mountain and most other hunters are up on the mountain. Our thinking, let them run the deer down to us. Well we are sitting there and we hear gun shots start to go off...i mean WW3 type firing, every couple of minutes.

After about 30 mins of listenin to everyone shoot and us keeping our eyes peeled, nothing... the shooting stopped, no movement anywhere. I go over to his spot and tell him that we are done for the day, there aint gonna be no deer round here. We pack up our stuff and head over to another spot where we small game hunt.

15 minutes after we leave, a friend of ours calls us. He was up on the mountain, seen us leave and decided to go over to our spot. As he is walking to it, a 9 pointer eases out of the brush, less than 50 yards where we were set up. He gets him.

Thanks for all the responses.

gemini2281 why so adamant about vanilla? I`m not sure not something would have the same scent after being inhaled? And I`ll pass on vaping tinks, but I`ll use it.

cozzicon with your silliness lately I can only assume you`re talking about vaping that stuff!!!

Never fails does it mutt? 3 years ago my then 15 y.o. son hunted a certain stand I told him to the entire weekend, until Sun. evening that was, and then I took it over for him, you know the rest.

Spider I respectfully disagree. I take great care when hunting to use unscented everything. If it`s even slightly warm and I know it`s going to be cold sitting/standing, I`ll carry in my cold gear and put it on once in the stand to keep from sweating. When able to refrain from smoking I`ve been as close as 10 ft. from a deer, I don`t think I could get that close unless I was vaping something that they actually liked the smell of, or were curious of.

Maybe that will actually help, in the fact that deer aren`t accustomed to the smell of vapor as they are with cigs, or body odor, and curiosity may actually help us. Is there a vendor that would be open to input from us as far as a flavor that would emit an alfalfa flavor or something? Although a seasonal thing, it seems as if it could be profitable from the responses here, as long as it wasn`t nasty as heck.

I`ll probably Vape upwind Dmass mentioned to start, as I always hunt upwind whenever I can anyway. I harvested 4 last year, and my son took one so I`m not starting off meat hunting, and may vape on a doe if the opportunity presents itself, since I probably will still have meat left sept. 15th when archery season starts here.

Please post your experience guys, and thanks to any lurking antis who refrained from posting.

Hmm, well, whitetails love cantalope. Thats a fact. They love pumpkin too.
When I hunted my cat came with me. Seems like that should run them off right?
Nope. She would tell me when they were coming. LOL

If Domino favored you by following you out to the blind and staying then you considered yourself lucky!!

Anyway, there are pumpkin flavored ejuice and cantalope too. If nothing else it should help hide your own scent and wouldnt put them off coming in .

They really love red beets but I doubt there is a red beet juice or that I would want to try it!

I vaped all during hunting season last year and had no problems at all the deer acted like they didnt have a clue. I vaped alot of Apple and nut flavors though, might have helped cause there are orchards in the area. I seen no difference vaping and not vaping at all so i wouldnt worry abot it just cover lights if you have any on your PV.

Even while vaping with does right on me at ten yards they didnt seem even nervous. I do the same thing with being scent free and carrying in the cold clothes. The know human smell to well and I know they are not coming to me if I stink in anyway. People that say it dont matter and smoke are just fooling themselves. They still see deer but not as much and as close as if they were scent free.

Dkrom68 good stuff! You to Brad, I would ask though are the deer you are seeing patterned to where they are comfortable around humans to begin with as opposed to being out in the woods? The more responses I see it sure looks encouraging, and may even be an advantage. My best case hope was to at least not put myself at a disadvantage, and I`m becoming convinced of at least that much. Got a bottle of vanutla I`ll have to save! Vanilla and nut, sounds like I can`t go wrong.

I agree with Dkrom as well. I know soooo many guys that say smoking doesn`t matter, heck I myself took my biggest buck ever smoking. I say to this it is the exception more than the rule. Guys that CONSISTENTLY harvest monster bucks don`t smoke, and pay close attention to scent.

Anyways thanks fellow vapers and hunters, I sure enjoy input on both of these subjects as well as fishing which I figured went without saying :toast:

The deer i'm around aren't used to people at all. In fact they are so not used to them they are gone in no time at all. I have been a scent control nut and also have gotten some nice ones while smoking in the past but I think its more the wind direction cause like you i also hunt downwind. I have numerous stands and play the wind accordingly.

I never wear my clothes in the house or in the car, I wash them religiously a time or two a week and keep them in a scent lock bag. The only layer exposed to anything is the bottom layer and that gets scent killer before putting on the rest.

I also think the whole color blind things is a farce. Its more they are exceptional at seeing blocks of color thus a all orange vest is easily seen and the flourecents also is a thing they see as well. Im lucky enough to hunt private land and use pure camo. One time I had a doe literally sniff my back while sitting on the ground as I was young and stupid and got some doe in estrus scent on me. She scared me cause I had seen deer fight and the hoofs are deadly. I never made that mistake again.

I prefer Bowhunting and scent control, movement, and camo is all the more important. I harvested a nice 10 pointer last year at 12 yds with the bow and vaped till he was 35yds from me and new he was heading my direction. The wind was in his favor as it shifted with the sun going down but he paid no mind at all. I was vaping a apple and it does have the apple smell to it among other things deer smell im sure but he was good with it and not even skittish till the arrow slammed home.

Awesome! I guess I`ll get some apple to get used to it. Don`t know the NY regs, but for archery we (MO) only need hunter orange during firearms. I have access to private land 10 minutes from the house several different plots. People around here get tired of hitting them with cars, and are hunter friendly, particularly to archery that`s what got me started. Not near as many people give you permission to gun hunt their land. I became fanatical once I got into bow.

Like you I take every precaution with scent. Weather permitting I used to wash my clothes and put them outside the house in a scentloc bag, because I smoke in the housed in the house I stayed in inside. With archery you can take 2 bucks, and unlimited does, one buck has to be before firearms and one after. I don`t live in a AR county, but they are headed this way, and I can`t wait! The Northern counties implemented them about 5 years ago, and are really seeing the benefits now. They`ve began filming several TV shows in MO recently as a result.

Back to topic, I trust your experience. You know your hunting, and if you took a 10 pointer vaping while getting winded then I`m a believer! It`s just another one of those too good to be true things with vaping! Everyday I feel God sent me a miracle!

Good luck to you this season! I know it`s a ways off, but to a hunter it`s just around the corner. Which reminds me. It`s time to break out the bow and start slinging some arrows in a target!

Here in NY we are only allowed one buck with the bow and can get 2 doe tags for all of the season. Then one buck with the gun. The implimented a 3 point rule on atleast one side to be classified as a shooter in some of the ares here. I really like it as it allows them to mature. I hate seeing people take year and a half deer that have great potential at 3 to 5 and a half. I would much rather use the bow for all season and generally do unless I need meat and rifle is here then its a different story. Ive only been skunked 2 seasons out of the 27 years hunting and been hunting with the bow for about 20 now.

My hunting clothes dont see the inside of the house when season starts except to be washed. My wife calls me .... but I call me smart. I actually got the wife and daughter into shooting the bow and are both a pretty good shot to about 25yds. Although they will never harvest a deer they do enjoy shooting and we go to the techno hunt systems quite often. I love them things shooting at the screen. Some good practice although only at 20 yds and no elevations but still more fun the regular target shooting.

This is a bit OT, but what exactly do you do with the deer after you shoot them? I've never been hunting, but mainly because I don't know any hunters. Just wondering whether you eat the meat because I know deer can be tasty.

I know you can get a taxidermist to stuff them as well, but that is quite expensive as far as I know. So you can't stuff every deer you 'catch'.

Don't you aim for their heart too? So they die quickly and it doesn't mess thier coat up too badly?

Anyways, sorry for the noob questions. I just didn't want to google dear hunting because lord only knows where that might lead me, lol.
