I'm about four months into vaping, which has been miraculous. I never foresaw giving up cigarettes, but did.

Along the way, I've had a symptom that stood to reason--constipation--and dealt with it: lots of liquids, lots of fiber.

But there's been another: I've had more than a few long, virtually sleepless nights. I don't have the bizarre dreams that some people report, and the insomnia doesn't happen every night, just far more often than it did pre-vaping.

Nicotine? Doesn't stand to reason. I used to smoke right up to the minute prior to laying down.

Anybody else get this?

I'm not sure if it was "true" insomnia for me, or just the fact that I hit that sweet spot late at night, where all was quiet, my passthrough was performing beautifully and there were tons of posts to read and answer on ECF.. Come to think of it, I think if anything, ECF gave me insomnia, and the vaping just came along for the ride. :)

This is exactly what is happening to me! And I used to smoke right up to the minute of laying in bed also - never in bed - but smoked, got in bed, good night. Insomnia once in a while but ever since I began vaping I have been have many more sleepless nights.

I am trying to figure out if there has been any other change since I began vaping in late July but I simply cannot pinpoint anything else.

I thought maybe I was dehydrated? I know that can be a vaping issue so I drank a heck of a lot more. Not a good thing - I was up having to hit the bathroom during the night. Counter productive to say the least.

I also read people lower their nic level closer to bedtime so I tried that. No help but I did continue with the lower nicotine in the evenings - usually.

So I spoke to my doc about it and she did say that while nicotine is a stimulant and vaping is so much better than smoking try melatonin for a while to see if I can back into my old sleep habits.

I was never a great sleeper - I have Mommy ears :) - but this was bad.

And I have tried melatonin and it seems to be working about 2/3 of the time. I take it a few hours before I plan on getting into bed as she recommended. It does not make you drop right off like a sleep med so I was a bit more comfortable with it than a sleep med. Not taking a pill to offset a symptom of something I am doing good rather than bad.

Wish I had more specific info and I wish I could figure something else it is but I can't. Nothing else has really changed except I gave up smoking cigarettes and began vaping.

What I have learned over the past while is that we are in need of the hand to mouth, almost moreso than the nicotine.

I also know first hand the chronic insomnia that not only comes with vaping, but with everyday life.

Once you get yourself settled with vaping, I recommend finding a flavor that you absolutely LOVE, and get it with zero or LOW nic (mine is a nice Key Lime Pie at the moment). Vape that at night. You will satisfy your hand to mouth fix, and I might add, you may sleep better.

The melatonin thing strikes me as a good idea. I've used it before, pre-vaping; as you say, Ambien it's not, but 66.6% success isn't bad for something cheap, over-the-counter and relatively harmless.

Long time no see, BoomBoom. How are you making out with the Phidias?

Nicotine is a stimulant so it is possible that you are intaking too much nicotine before trying to go to sleep. And please remember that you can quite honestly inhale much more nicotine in a shorter period of time with an e-cig than with a real cigarette (obviously depends on concentration of nic in your e-liquid). Maybe try not vaping an hour or so before bed and see if that helps a bit.

We know that cigarettes provide a spike of nicotine and then it dwindles quickly, making most want another cigarette in short order. IIRC, ecigs provide a steadier nicotine dose that has levels rising more slowly, so if you are vaping your standard nic level right up until bedtime, your nic level is probably still increasing while you're trying to go to sleep.

I vote for lowering your nic level quite a bit in the hour or two before bedtime.

Loving my Phidias! Besides the intended way to use it I also like to simply pop a filled 510 carto on top with a drip tip for easy handling and showing off. :)

Funny misconception I must have about e cigs compared to standard cigs: I thought it was the e cig that gave us the fast nic in fast nic out and the standard cig that allowed for a longer nic level. I vape all day long - rarely w/o an e cig in hand. I thought that was because the nic left my system so quickly.

Do I have that completely wrong? So I have no excuse now for chain vaping except for the fantastic BWB flavors?

I did notice something I did not mention before and I am not sure if this is a side effect of the melatonin for me anyway - I am sleeping heavier in the morning. I used to fall asleep within 15 minutes of getting into bed and then sleep until my alarm around 7 am. But now when I sleep through it is a very light sleep at first and deeper in the morning. Not sure if that makes sense and not sure what is causing it but that's what is happening.

Sleep or no sleep - on e cigs the bed smells a whole lot nicer. :)
