The short and simple answer is, no one knows for sure. Based on the current information we have, it's likely that exposure to second hand vapor is far less dangerous than exposure to second hand smoke. Your child is probably exposed to far more toxic substances from automobile exhaust when walking through a parking lot.

It's going to come down to a personal decision. I would personally avoid cloud chasing in the same room, and direct vapor away from them.

EDIT: Since your son is only 3, make certain your eliquid and devices are not accessible to your child to avoid nicotine poisoning.

yeah use your own judgement, I made a post awhile back about vaping around my family and hamster and I just don't do it

when I do video reviews, no one is home, my hamster is far away from me in my house and I got the windows opened

Every time you mention the hamster I laugh, and I don't know why. It's probably just a funny word/image.

Churchie, there are four main issues: (1) nicotine (2) flavorings (3) potential allergies to pg/vg/flavorings (4) Needless particulates.

In the case of (1), so far the studies that have been done to mimic you get while being exposed to vapor while in a crowded bar for a few hours, and it showed that while people did pick nicotine up, it was about the same amount they'd get from eating a potato. (2) is somewhat worrisome and would depend on what's used... something like pg/vg/menthol is considered safe (menthol has been studied well). (3) is self-explanatory. While (4) is probably minor in the grand scheme of things and is related to flavorings, it isn't "clean air" so it's a factor, especially if they're at an age where their lungs are still developing.

As mentioned, the biggest immediate danger with a little talking monkey is that eliquids often taste sweet, both due to flavorings and VG. You might have your bottles up and stored but not realize there's residue on the outside of the tank/dripper making them want to get into it... they might not be able to undo it, but it can get sucked out. Not telling you what to do, but to my knowledge those are the factors to consider.

until there are 100% proven scientific tests, treat vaping like smoking

My cat sneezes horribly when he struts into a room full of clouds...kids I have to keep them out...they have a tendency to like to wave the clouds away with their hands they think its fun but I try to keep them away.

Hi churchieboy and welcome aboard!

I agree with what the others have said, and applaud you for being concerned enough to ask. Probably best to be safe and keep it away from him than to be sorry.

Oh, and if you get him a pet, get him a gerbil - stay away from those hamsters. :D

Happy Vaping!

I wouldnt, 2md hand vape still has nic in it. Rip Trippers said he got nic sick from being around people vaping higher nic juices then he is used to, if somebody like him can get nic sick imagine the way a child could feel.

Uhhh - barely detectable trace levels of nic in it. I don't know what Rip - being Rip - and his friends were vaping but it may not have been nic. But since someone said it on the internet it must be true. Sigh....

Real test reports are in the CASAA library - and no, it's not in a You Boob video format.

You should be very careful vaping around your cat, as cats are extremely sensitive to propylene glycol, which is toxic to cats but considered safe in humans and canines. Exposure to PG can lead to Heinz body anemia, which basically means the PG weakens red blood cells, allowing then to be more easily destroyed in the body. If your cat is sneezing, there's a problem, and if you value your furry little friend I'd advise against vaping around him or her.

Everyone is talking about physical health but nobody has talked about the behavioral side of things.

One consideration around vaping around children is impression and influence.

I have older kids (10+) and have taught them to make personal health decisions, so I don't believe they'll copy me on it. They've grown up in an anti-smoking culture and are innoculated against it. For heath, its probably on a whole better to not vape at all and live in the countryside away from pollutants in the city. My wife and I believed strongly enough in this that we moved to a small town outside the city to raise our children - small town life with clean air and open natural spaces.

That being said, if you don't want to influence an impressionable child, the answer is no. You're your kids hero (most of the time) and they're programmed to learn from you. I personally think the health concerns are negligible (my opinion) but I think the behavior influences can be vast. If you don't want them to pick up vaping and they are still at the impressionable stage, avoid it. If they're past that (ie: a semi-mature, anti-smoking oriented teenager like mine), they'll make their own decision regardless of what they see you do. My own 10 year old occasionally lectures me about my health - eating and vaping (this coming from a kid who refuses to eat his vegetables and thinks hotdogs and pizza are a food group). I think thats good and I don't argue with him, I support his viewpoint and encourage him, telling him he's made a good personal decision. I also point out that he has to respect mine - but I do that very gently and in the right moment - I don't want to dissuade him from a good choice.

Thats what parenting is all about in my opinion.

EDIT: If they are not your children, you don't have any business exposing them to it or displaying encouraging behavior - thats entirely the domain of the parent. So I avoid that.

I don't agree, I find it confusing when people think smoking or vaping behind a wall or window prevents future smokers/vapers it's setting yourself up for dissappointment. If not seeing the behavior prevented future users then it would be easier to prevent it. And harder drugs wouldn't be an issue either. I believe your kids know more than we think no matter how well we hide it,and it's by chance. The fact that 10 friends try a smoke and only two become habitual smokers, tells me it has nothing to do with the past and everything to do with how the experience makes them feel, it's a very personal and uncontrollable phenomenon. That's why no one has been able to stop new users, there's no answer to prevention.

In my experience, which includes 2 "grown" children, men aged 36 and 33, and 4 grandchildren aged 12, 10, 5, and 3 (all girls), the best way to get any of them to try something is to hide it and make it taboo. That's sure to get their attention, and create, in many cases, the desire to try what you're doing. My home has very large ceilings and ceiling fans in every room, so that helps, and I certainly don't blow vapor in their faces or direction, but I don't hide it either. Both of my boys have kicked years of smokeless tobacco and now vape, and the grand kids love to see us try to blow smoke rings or create funnel clouds on occasion. Who knows if they will start vaping or not, but in my opinion hiding the behavior can often make it more appealing.
