I worried it would catch on fire (Murphy hates me).
It is a DRY burn. In order for the coils to glow, they must burn off the wet.

I wouldn't suggest dry burning a dual coil cartomizer. Heck, I wouldn't even recommend dry burning anything, for that matter.
Sometimes I wish I could teleport to wherever you guys are so I can see your own personal process of what dry burning actually is/does.
I've dry burned several heads. And ruined every single one. Don't think I'm being cocky here, I know how to follow directions. Did things to the T, be it written directions or youtube videos. And it always, 100% percent of the time, ruined my heads. I've been through six now. "User error" is moot at this point.
I have never ruined a coil doing it? I rinse them. I blot the wicks. I then put it on my PV and burn the coil a few seconds until it smokes. I let it cool. I do this until ALL the coils glow red - not white, just red. I may have to do this several times, but never more than a few seconds at a time. Once they are glowing red, believe me, they are dry! I have never started with a dry wick though... and I don't burn them for more than 5 or 6 seconds at a time.
Question about dry burning...... do the heads (wicks) need to be wet? It was this morning but do I need to re-wet the ones I already soaked and rinsed before dry burning? The ones in the video were wet that's why I am not sure.
I do the same thing, except for the blowing on the coils part. The one time I did that, the coil popped immediately. It really is important to dry burn until you see the glowing coil. At first, you'll just see a red glowing glob. I dry burn until I can see at least some of the individual coils.Ah - not that it matters if you are going to ditch the vivi anyway, but that is probably why the heads aren't giving a decent vape after cleaning. The smoke is the crud burning off. I repeat the dry burn until the coils glow. So I dryburn 5-6 seconds, and I usually blow onto the coil while doing it. Then rest it about 5 seconds, then repeat. I do it at 3.8 volts until no smoke and coils glow.
I started this journey over a month ago and while I like Mount Baker Mocha, it's my all day vape ONLY because it's tollerable at the end of the day. I've tried a lot of the others that were recommended and that 1 is 1 I ordered on accident and it's my fave. But with all the garbage I keep having to do and money we've had to spend and not get a vape I absolutely love? I just honestly don't see how this will ever become a hobby for the hubs and I. At this point it's just a means to an end to hopefully be completely off nic by April... sooner if I can do it. About 1/2 way through the day even my Mocha no longer taste yummy, because I vape dark juices I have to change out the heads on my vivi nova daily. It's just such a PIA!! I REALLY wish I could just put it all down completely and sell all this gear and juices. UGH!!!
All I wanted to do was quit smoking, and then I started to chase the vapor dragon.
Ride the snake!
You may have had some bad experience with the cartotanks (DCT) due to the thickness/darkness of your juice. For something like what you like to vape with such high VG...you'll likely need a 3 hole punched cartomizer. Also, I believe the Smoktech cartos have "loose" filler that might absorb the VG stuff better since it's so thick. The Boge is packed much tighter. You also probably want to avoid dual coils in your cartomizers (should you ever try them again). They tend to burn and use up juice too fast and are hard on battery life. YMMV.
With the Smokteks and high vg juice (I pretty much use Alien Visions exclusively, and my favorite juices are 10/90 pg /vg) 2 holes work just fine. The trick is priming the carto right the first time.
Personally, after trying earnestly for months to use the wick style tanks (like the VVN) I chucked them all and went back to cartomizers and cartotanks. I've been using the same carto tank units for several months and there's been NO leaking like someone else suggested. If you do happen to damage the O rings (can happen if the sharp edge of the cartomizer hits it...best to use a SYM tool or one of those long "filling tips" sold at a lot of places now. Protects the O ring.) you can buy replacement O rings easy. If you learn the easy "system" to fill the carto before loading it in the tank...then fill the tank then PRIME the carto in the tank...things will go amazingly smoothly. You need a high quality cartomizer, however. Or else keep a good supply of them around (they are relatively cheap in the grand scheme of things.) A lesser quality carto will work...but may not survive much past the first refill of your tank.
If you are determined to try to make those wick type tanks work...more power to you and good luck! I wasted a boatload of money on those things..fell for the all hype, and learned to "dry burn" and do all that other fiddling and fussing and changing and futzing etc.....and for me: NEVER AGAIN!

How does 1 prime it correctly?
