We are a family of 7, with only my income. Not a luxurious life but we do okay. When I smoked it was 2 pad, usually between $10-12 a day, and i never really thought about the money. I have saved a ton since making the switch, but now I feel it has taken "hobby" status instead of "gotta have" the cigs had. I would spend about 70ish a week in smokes, but feel guilty spending money on additional attys, clearos, flavors, etc, even though I know it's much cheaper and better than the stinkies. Mentally for me, it's no different than saying I'm buying a new table saw this week even though I know I shouldn't. I'm not looking for justification, just venting and wondering if others have felt the same with their vaping.

what is nice, is that most of the hardware is rebuildable, so once you find something you like, you can pretty much use it indefinitely. i think i have y technique down enough to recoil my iclear16's so i wont have to spend any more money buying those. as for flavor, i pretty much know what i like now, so its just a matter of maintaing a certain number of ML's so i never run out. i went super stupid in the beginning and bought wayyyyyy to many types of juice. so until thats gone, i banned myself from buying any more...haha

I had to rein myself in a bit, but found that if I just put stuff in my 'shopping cart' and then slept on it that in the morning I could empty the cart with only a small pang. :) I believe it was The Ocelot who said "It's a tube with a battery" - I tell myself that when the shiny stuff calls to me. So my ego batteries, my evods and my favorite juices from the neighborhood store (with a little diverson to mount baker Vapor's last sale) and I'm trying to be good. I'm out of the red and if I can stay strong then it's all good!

I do to a certain degree. What has helped me is a spreadsheet. If you would like, PM your email address and I will email a sample with some data in it just to give you an idea of how it works. Just replace the data with yours. The formulas are already there. It really helps to keep the overspending in check with what you would have spent buying cigs and you can SEE how you are actually doing. I do know how you feel though.
Maybe you could share that sample on google docs or something? I'm sure that many people would find it helpful.

Time to Google 'Google Docs'. :D Never heard of that till now.

If anyone would like the spreadsheet. I have no problem emailing it to them. Just PM me your email address. At least until I figure out this google docs thing. :)

Not only no but hell no! I get enough of documents from work I get yelled at all the time for not doing them correctly or not turning them in on time.
Are we really spending so much we cant have a fairly close guesstament weekly monthly and yearly?
But thank you for the selfless offer thats very kind of you.

I truly understand. I actually started this spreadsheet because Mr. Robin asked once if vaping was really saving money. I thought I was spending more on vaping than I did on cigs. So I figured out the simplest way to do the columns and such. Put in the formulas. Then took all my receipts (yes i had saved them, still have them all) and was amazed that I was actually saving.

I figured out budgets! OMG you have to know me to know how big that is for my non mathematical mind! I bought my Prothingy when I had saved double what it cost for the whole thing. I still wanted to see figures in the black.

For me, I always hated spending $55 or so on a carton of cigs, only to end up with ashes. At least with vaping my money goes towards "stuff" I can enjoy for a long time. I don't really spend much on other things (I work in a building at the Dallas Galleria and shopping for overpriced status symbols bores me to tears), so my vape gear is that gaudy purse I didn't buy

I do understand the thing with spending on vape stuff. I went through a bad patch of Accumulation Syndrome for about a year. But even during that time what I did was figure out what my husband and I spent per month on smoking (he in this thing too), including lighters and whatnot...then that was my budget. So long as I stayed UNDER that amount, I figured we were doing good.

Now that I've found the vape equipment that works for me...and DIY my own juice (hubby still buys his premade)...we are WELL under what we spent on cigarettes. Even if I get an itch to buy a new "toy"...it's all good. But the itch is just about gone now, since we both are very happy with our stuff and know exactly what works for each of us. Now I spend my money on other things...like jewelry on eBay and stuff for the house, and fun stuff. Might spring for an occasional J-Wrap, or new drip tip or whatever. But even that has slowed way down.

One of the cool things about vaping is when buying smokes at the end of a carton you just have a stinky pile of cigarette buts! But when you spend money on vaping you get this IMG_1261[1].jpg even a empty juice bottle can make a fair fishing bobber if your thrifty ;-)

Seriously - Family of seven and working hard to minimize expenses due to extreme cost of survival. Family just expects me to handle everything and seems clueless to reality.
I finally got the mods I wanted (backups included) All my tanks/Carto's and Kangers galore. I did a large DIY purchase t omake my own e-liquids.
I have not had to spend on anything Vape related in 2 months and should be Expense free for a long time.

No worries here, I know something will break to take the saved money. Always does.:(

I actually use a spreadsheet as well to track my finances. Its been a little easier this paycheck since I'm not paying rent for the month, but I ended up spending that extra money on a new keyboard and a headset, so no mods for me this month...

The spreadsheet is nice to use as a reference. With my android phone, I just use the Google Drive app and update the info from there. Its really a nice way to keep track of everything.

Keep it simple. Before bank Credit/debit cards we used checks. When we used checks we used a check register. Simply get a notebook and itemize deductions from your checking account. Also stay away from the credit card. Vaping is no different then any hobby in forums and FB groups. I am a member of a Photography and scale model forum and they all of a lot of gear talk.

I was guilty of going too crazy with vape gear also. We tend to try to justify our purchases by saying that it's better then our previous analog alternative. But when it all comes down to it, you have to step back and make the humble decision of what you want and what you really need. Let's face it, the cheapest route is to not smoke or vape and not have to worry about funding your nicotine delivery system. By the way I winced typing that previous sentence.

I am going through a divorce so now I am budgeting. In a few months I will have to downgrade from a smartphone to a regular phone, sell 80% of my photography equipment. Yeah it sucks but if anything it's a good lesson in humility.

Over the past couple months I've spent ~170, including the 30 I just spent this morning ordering my first mech. My flavor is ry4, so diy is simple and was a huge savings. For about $24 I figure I have enough juice for the next couple months. I'd recommend that to anyone looking to save. I figure another 20-30 for an rba, kanthal, wick, and a couple more batteries should keep me content for months.

Been through that too. It sucks, it's expensive, and it's the best thing to happen to me. Without it I wouldn't have my current wife, adopted son, and my 3 little ones. As they say, it's always darkest before the dawn. Keep your head up.

Thanks everyone. Ill be okay, just take it a day at a time. As far as the topic of this thread, i have moved from wanting all the gear to finding what is durable and what will last the longest.

Please tell me how you came to this odd conclusion I dont understand the concept ;-)

I too went "vape crazy" at first and spent around $700 I think, (give or take $100) the first couple of months. Now I've figured out what I like/don't like and how to maintain what I have. I'm pretty much down to just "maintenance" now...Kanger coil heads, juice and an occasional 18650 battery. So I think I can honestly say: LET THE SAVING BEGIN:D.
