As an ex small business owner I know and understand the pains of attempting to satisfy everyone's needs. I do however agree one should be as knowledgeable in their chosen field as possible. It is best to at least seem intelligent enough to assist anyone coming in. They just might bring someone else back that you can sell to.

Yeah, that reminds me of the time I went into Vapin Ape's here in Cape Coma, and the young lady behind the counter asked me what kind of dripper my genny was. When I told her it wasn't a dripper but a genny she didn't know what that was, and retorted, "But I see it's on a dripper mod," meaning my mech. So much for knowledgeable vape store workers...

My question to you is........ Why would you care what others think if you are happy with what gets you to your happy place??!!

:?:

Because the happy place is happier when you have others you can share it with, and aren't looked down on for what gets you there. It's not as much fun enjoying something in isolation. Much less so if you are disparaged for it.

For the record, I think genny's are very cool, I would love to get one and build on it myself, what would you consider a good one to get??!!

I've built tanks and drippers so I'm not a super novice, I do know I will need mesh as well and have seen them built and have a basic grasp of "how to"!!

Face down in the gutter, USA
Oh how I wish there were such shops, but here it's all the same trend, from Cape Coma to Naples and beyond. I see that same trend online as well. There are precious few threads about hardware I can say anything in, and even in the genny forum here the dripper gang would intrude to push their thing. On Reddit there are several vaping sub-Reddits, and almost zero in any of them about gennies. Bring up the subject and you get negative responses.

Why would a business try to sell/specialize in products which have virtually ZERO market at this point?

As much as it bothers people, B&M's are in the business to make money, if you're running a business and get 10 people a day asking for sub-ohm tanks versus 1 person a month asking about gennies, which are you going to stock more of/know more about?

If you walk into a store with a inherent bias against what they're selling, you're highly unlikely to be well-received, why should they respect your vaping style when you don't respect theirs?

Because the happy place is happier when you have others you can share it with, and aren't looked down on for what gets you there.

What you don't seem to understand is that your OWN lack of open mindedness directly influences the way the people in B&M's are going to interact with you. If you took the time to explain to the store employees the merits of a genny in regard to your desired vaping experience, who knows, you may get an interested listener who will retain/understand some of the information you share.

Take a look at your quote in my sig, this was your statement about a technology you know very little about and from i can gather have never used, yet you made your (pretty inflammatory) opinion publicly known.

If you approach everything with this attitude you're not going to make many friends in any circle.

I love my genny's and I agree there is no taste comparison to mesh. I also love my high power boxes and gigantic coils on my drippers and every other setup I own for that matter. Each is unique and has it's own pros and cons. Some work better than others for specific purposes and that is exactly what makes this industry so wonderful. Any good B&M should be in the habit of understanding that all things in vaping are subjective and what works for one person or situation might very well not work for another. Those that don't understand that don't deserve your business. It's a shame that most shops tend to fall into catering to the needs of their customer base or at least the majority of it and neglect other aspects of vaping. I can understand not carrying products that are not going to yield sales but that is no excuse to not know about them or understand them. On that note if you go into a shop and they are not knowledgeable about all aspects of vaping, condescend to you, or lack the ability or products to help you should either try to share your knowledge or take your business elsewhere.

You are spot-on with that. The B&M's here seem to care only about the dominant market trend, which within the vaping community has become the dominant social trend as well, with lots of help from the B&M's. Because of that I did take my business elsewhere, online, which is the only place I can find others who use what I do, or buy what I like in the way of vaping hardware.

I so wish I knew just one other genny vaper here I could socialize it with, but in these parts if you aren't sporting a megawatt box with a dripper full of claptons on it you aren't cool enough to bother with.

Well one clear thing is - A Genny is NOT a Genny
It is a Nick name for a Genesis Tank which uses a Stainless Seal Wick. That discription might Draw interest.
Saying It's a Genny, even when they were more popular would still have gotten a lot of  from many Vapers.
I know what it is and own a few, or 6, because I was interested in learning all about the next step. it was on the list at the time. Many never took that journey so you cannot expect them to just understand. You need an intriguing approach to peak curiosity.
Genesis Tanks are not on the list of interesting purchases for newer shop owners, some of which are young Franchise investors dumping their life savings on a Dream of a decent future.

Life is all about perception.
Look for good and it will find you.
Look for bad and it will mow you down.

After some reading I have decided, had you struck up a conversation explaining your setup to the young lady, she may have become intrigued and gained knowledge from the experience. The next time you met both of you would have been more comfortable and accepting.
Just a thought

* When I said a business should know all they can to serve a customer - I did not mean or assume a Dodge Dealer should be able to explain the inner workings of a Ferrari Transmission.:D

It's best to let them go on for a while and ask them questions about the junk they are pushing before pulling them out :D
Oh yeah, you have to let them go on for a while. I'm friends with the owner and manager, they'll sit there giggling while "noob" employee try's to sell me a gigga-watt dual mega whatever.

I only go in on Monday at 10am right after they open, so there is nobody else in the store.

It's a pretty good hazing ritual for teaching the new guy to ask questions first and not assume everyone is new to vaping. :)

I'm lost as well.

Be like me stopping at a Dodge dealer. I'm perfectly happy with my Chevy and I hate everything Dodge. So I stop at the Dodge dealer and let the salesman do his thing. Then say I only buy Chevy's and leave in a huff. I'm all super proud of myself and the salesman is wondering what the heck just happened.

I've found an open mind and a friendly attitude is my passport into vape shops in any area. Most times I leave without buying anything but I always have a good time and meet lots of interesting people.

This is my attitude also I have met some nice people in vape shops one in particular that had this nice stone drip tip.-----just sayin.......

For a starter I'd look for a RSST. Forget the mesh just use cotton.

I've used a variety of gennies, from the obstreperous AGA-T2 to the RSST, to the MMV DID, to the Kraken, and Origenny. They all have their good points, and their quirks too. It's hard to pick one to recommend, but since you have building experience and seem up for it, you might want to try the Tobeco clone of the Origenny. It's a solid performer at a good price.

Beware however, the stumbling block for all too many is rolling a mesh wick. For some unknowable reason some people can just never manage to get that right.

DO NOT USE COTTON!

It's not a genny at all if you put cotton in it! Gennies use mesh and mesh only. If you want to use cotton get a dripper, and don't build a genny as something it's not!

Before I found bottom feeders (mine are all mechanical) my Poldiac and Roller went everywhere with me and the DID was my introduction to building. You've got some great stuff there, all of which most B&M employees would have no idea what to do with. Mad props to you (tips hat)

Also, I would like to nominate this thread title for the best ever

I was gifted by my nephew a Dual Coil RSST with the pyrex clear tank and I put Stainless Steel Cable into both wick holes-------isn't mesh really just cable

all unwound and weaved together like a sheet of paper............................
