Friday 8/30/13 the wife and I went to the US Open in Flushing Queens NY.
Strict security had lines getting in slow with each person getting searched with a hand held metal detector. I had my simple ego with an EVOD in my hand. When the detector went off when passing my wrist I showed him my vape. He asked "what is that?". So I explained with a demonstration to boot. His 1st reply was " that's not allowed ". I then said, no where on the USTA website for the US Open does it state cigarettes or e-cigs were prohibited. Not sure, he asked the guy with a metal detector on the next line. This guy looked at my vape and said " there allowed". But the guy checking my line called security.
I felt like I was NY's #1 most wanted.
Security came over and explained to the untrained security guy that cigarettes and e-cigs were permitted .
I did read that the entire US Open area was a smoke free area.
I guess that's why I found at least 3 tall ash tray cans, a no smoking sign mounted within 2 feet of them, and about 12 people smoking at these areas. Also to mention the 2 US Open employees I found sneaking smokes.
My seats were in the nose bleed section 306 row V. I vaped throughout the 2 evening matches with out a complaint from the dozen or more people seated near me or the few stadium employees that clearly saw me vaping.
Ohhh, and Serina Williams kicked ... as usual.
