Vaping At Work

Depends on the type of place you work, some places are very friendly towards it, and some frown upon it. If yours falls into the latter category, vape in the bathroom and hold it in longer so it doesn't release as much vapor.
I work at a hospital which has a "no tobacco" policy. I've carefully read the hospital's policy of no tobacco products, and no where is there a hint of mention of e-cigarette use or alternative nicotine delivery devices. It only mentions cigarettes, tobacco, and smoke.
Now whether the powers that be consider nicotine itself as a direct product of tobacco, I beg to differ. Nicotine is present in patches and gum, and there is no mention of them in the hospital policy. I have no tobacco in my presence, and I am not creating smoke by vaping.
Having said that, I stealth vape at work. I keep my gear in my locker, and often go there on my breaks for a few puffs, discreetly. My locker is conveniently located at the far end of the room, and behind another row of lockers, so I can easily see who enters the room. I know who I can trust to vape in front of, and abstain if in the presence of people I don't trust.
It's sad to say that I have to go through this process, considering that I have chosen a safer alternative from smoking, but it is what it is.

I vape freely at work.... But I work either in a small office or from home.... The way I see it, employers should embrace it... massive increase in productivity do to a reduction in smoke breaks.

I think I might jog HR a note tomorrow asking for permission. If they know the facts between smoking and vaping, maybe it will make things easier. It would save me time and keep me at my desk all day instead of bundling up, walking outside to smoke, then walking back in etc.
My employer confiscated my e-cig upon trying to enter the building through a security scanner. They never did return it, but I was allowed to write a lengthy report and provide documentation to prove that it was not malicious; so all is well and I still have a job. My situation is rare since I work with sensitive information where a cell phone is not allowed into the building. I know that the University of Texas is a smoke free campus which specifies that you cannot use e-cigarettes, so I guess it just depends. Some liquids have a distinctive smell that may not be pleasing to others so I would assume it wouldn't be allowed, probably until someone complains.

I am blessed to be able to vape freely at my desk all day at work! my boss enjoys borrowing my backup sometimes to use during the day but isn't quite convinced it'd be enough for her to quit. she's very proud of me though. I'm working on her!
I work in corporate banking, and this is what I did. I'm friendly with the head of our HR department and gave her a heads-up, then mentioned it to my manager so she wouldn't freak-out when she saw massive plumes in my office
I'm a manager for a, oh let's call it a retail establishment for safety, and the majority of the management team are vapers. we got away with it in the office just fine for a while until someone got too bold with it and started vaping in the break room in front of an employee. employee complains to upper management and now the company has amended their no smoking policy to include e-cigarettes. Oh well. We still vape in the office a lot though, when the cat's away the mice will play.
the policy at work was amended stating that we were not allowed to use anything on company that omitted a vapor or smoke so i still have to go out and stand in the smoking area that is conveniently placed in an inconvenient location on the back side of the building...
I know a lot of places still aren't open to it. Restaurants, movie theatres and most casinos in Fla. and Ill. are afraid it'll encourage real smokers to light up. I work in construction so it depends on the management and location, (indoor/outdors). I would suggest you ask in advance to make sure, regardless of what you think... especially in your working environment.

At least you can remain on the property. My employer does not allow smoking within so many feet of the property.
I work for the State of Oregon. We're expressly forbidden to use e-cigs anywhere on state property.
You're right about that... however, I know all too well about having to go from the 14th floor all the way outside to smoke. How unfortunate for you that he sees vaping as smoking.
At the first big company I worked at, it was okay, as long as it wasn't on the sales floor. Break room, by all means. I even got three people to switch over to the inferno kit, since we had a kiosk in the mall. I've worked as a temp at an accounting firm in the IT department, and my manager was more than happy to let me vape in the office as well. The company I'm currently with, I've been with for over two years, and the boss is happy to see me not smoking, since the majority of his employees smoke. I keep the office smelling fresh! Haha.

I've worked a few retail jobs since I've started vaping and they had a pretty strict no vaping policy -_-

At my husband's job they can vape in the breakroom, and the vapers actually outnumber the smokers.
I still go outside with the smokers. I have no desire to go in our breakroom though anyway. At first I got strange looks from others but now that I explained they are used to me now.
