If you wanna worry about something worry about diacetyl . I have no concern with organic cotton.

these are all cotton builds posted above.
never seen silica do that... where the whole wick turns black, even the part that is not inside the coil...
this tells me that something is going on with the cotton that does not happen with silica.

Does not matter if you clean it and change wicks. Whatever that chemical process is that causing the cotton to turn black and chunky is still occurring you just don't notice it because you change your wicks out before it gets that bad.
Dude have you ever seen pics of burned up Silica wicks. Let me tell you I would rather have Cotton particles then silica particles anytime. Silica is bad news. Just wick your coils right, and keep it all clean and you will have no worries.
There is another factor to consider with cotton though;
Just as cinnamon or citrus are known to react with plastics, I suppose there are going to be some flavors that might react chemically with cotton....
I suppose...
i never said anything about "cotton particles" and i see a lot of talk of "inhaling Silica particles" but no one wishes to share a link to a study that would even suggest we are inhaling silica particles. cant seem to find anything that would suggest we are inhaling silica particles.

Where are the peer reviewed studies for any of these materials? I see a lot of assumptions being thrown around... and as that ole' saying goes![]()
all of the studies we have right now are done on off the shelf ready to vape items that use silica for wick or cartomizers. no large scale vendors are currently offering cotton as a wicking maternal. here is a link for a number of studies done on off the self vape gear. Lab Reports: ecigarettes

"no large scale vendors are currently offering cotton as a wicking material"
That strikes me as a curious statement.
I've never heard anyone suggesting or expecting any vendor to use cotton as a wicking material.
People DIY their own wick with cotton in the same way that people DIY their own eliquid using glycerin from the pharmacy, wallmart etc.
If people could buy silica wick off the shelf, more people probably would.
While i don't agree with the general argument in the thread, and am happily vaping a Tugboat filled with cotton... I think his point was that no testing has been done on cotton, because it's not the wick found in off the shelf products. The argument being that testers are only testing off the shelf products, as there are too many variables in a DIY type setting. Be it e-liquid or wicking materials.
