Former PAD smoker of 18yrs here, quit ~3 months ago, vaping ever since.

Smoker's cough is gone completely. As Harplayr also said, my wheezing is also gone, and I don't clear my throat nearly as much.

I was fortunate to not have gone through a quit-smoking-coughing spell. As I understand it, that's kind of a toss up and not everyone gets it.

Seasonal colds (Spring and early Winter) used to always turn into bronchitis for me. This spring (knock on wood) I haven't had a cold - or if I had, it was so mild that it was no worse than allergies - and definitely no bronchitis.

Oh, my physician is also happy about the switch - they've marked me as a non-smoker, and just want to see me decrease my nicotine intake over time.

I've gone back and forth from vaping a few times, so I've noticed the positive and negative effects numerous times - at least in the short term (a few weeks to months).

I never had a terrible hacking cough, but I did cough pretty regularly, especially smoking. I think within about 2 days to the first week, I notice my lungs are much happier and my sense of smell and taste get better. Like someone else said .. I can smell someone smoking 1/2 - 1 block away. As a bunch of people said, I only cough from vaping if I'm dry from not drinking or vaping too heavily/fast. As well as lung capacity being increased, I'm pretty sure I have more mental clarity vaping, especially when I'm having a craving for nicotine, it's not as intense vaping. Smoking also started to make me sick to my stomach, which I have never noticed from vaping.

I don't think anyone knows about cilia or I've never seen any information anyhow .. I sort of assuming vaping has "some" negative effects, but everyone does seem to notice similar effects to stopping smoking complete - maybe they are not as extreme though ?

As for allergies ... I'm not positive, but I'm pretty sure mine have gotten better. Ironically, I'm sure I'm allergic to smoke now, if I do smoke or am around someone smoking, I will start sneezing pretty quickly. :p

Making the switch to vaping during the height of seasonal allergy time for me ... it's really hard to tell. I generally think I feel better when I wake up in the morning, so I must right? I notice that when I do cough any or clear my throat and mucus comes up, its quite clear now. In the past it did always have some milkiness color to it. I'm 50/50 on thoughts about taste improving, but it could just be that I haven't quite found a good balance on my liquid intake. Doing better on that though ever since I bought a faucet mount filter so I can just chug down tap water.

Where I live in Central Florida I have access to Zeypherhills water delivery, and in my opinion it's some of the best water going. Tho before I consider a delivery option, I think I'm gonna see if I can find the source for my apt complex. If it turns out it's coming from the same aquifer, I'm not going to waste the extra money on delivery. But man alive, we use Zeypherhills in all our water coolers at work, and it's amazing stuff. I know it sounds funny to talk about something that is by general definition flavorless ... but there's a difference I tell ya. :)

I think my next consideration will be to try some coffee flavors. I don't drink a lot of coffee mind you, but even cutting back on that a little bit would probably be a good thing. On any given day I have maybe 2 or 3 16oz glasses of iced coffee from my Keurig.

I have been vaping since April 2011. I had been smoking since I was 12, and am now 51. I had a very consistant & sometimes bad smokers cough, & my lungs hurt all the time to breath. Withing two weeks, my cough had gone away & it didn't hurt nearly as much to breath. My cough did get worse when I first started vaping, but my Dr. said that was normal, since my lungs were trying to clean themselves out. Within a month of using ecigs, it didn't hurt to breath at all!
I had one setback since then. I ran out of juice, but didn't have the lump-sum money set aside for more yet. I went back on analogs for two weeks. My cough came back and the painful lungs was getting worse again. I had to start all over when I got the juice. It took about 2 weeks for it all to clear up again.

First of all, before starting to smoke at the age of 19, I was in awesome shape. High school state champ swim team good of shape. I have also always been a long distance hiker. It's not uncommon for me to go on 20 mile hikes....and I'd smoke while doing that. Until the age of 30, I had never had sinus problems nor heartburn....ever.

I smoked 2 packs a day average for 15 years. Gradually went from three packs a day, down to two, then down to one pack a day....about 5 years at each stage. I never really had a persistent smoker's cough. However, I would cough uncontrollably when I got winded from jumping on the trampoline with my nieces, or running. Then, when I turned 30, I really began to notice my breathing becoming more shallow, chest tightening, weezing, sinus problems, heartburn/acid reflux problems, cold feet in a warm room temp, and I felt like hammered dog crap every day. Every morning, I would literally wake up with the thought of "holy s***, I really need to quit smoking, or I'm going to die an early death". Which brought on my worst side affect of smoking, mental stress. No matter how much my smoking had decreased, I had an ever growing mental sense that I was dying a slow miserable death....because my physical symptoms of the cigarette abuse were getting worse. Aside from the actual physical affects, just the mental impact alone was enough to make me feel like I was 60 (I'm only 34), and death was right around the corner. Drove me into depression, even. That finally drove me to quit a month ago.

With that all said... When I quit, I took Chantix. I was going to quit...period. I quit smoking four days after starting the Chantix. Didn't take a drag from anything for 8 days...and then I lowered my dosage on Chantix...and then the urges came back. I had an e-cig a few years ago, but clearly I wasn't ready to quit then, because I gave it up quickly....but I did actually like it. So I decided to go out and find another cheap one to get me over the hump. I've now graduated to a 510, and have decided that I'm good with just vaping for the rest of my life. My wife is also cool with it.

Now, my experience in regards to your question... The 8 days I hadn't had anything, I didn't really "cough" anything up, but I was pulling up phlegm and blowing my nose a lot, which told me my sinus' were beginning to clear. After a month without regular cigs, my breathing is deeper, sinus' are still clearing, my feet are warm again, my heartburn/acid reflux has really subsided, chest no longer tightening, weezing is gone, and I feel well rested in the morning with no thoughts of death...so my mental state is better. Hiking also feels better.

Sorry that was so long, and maybe no one will read it far enough to make it to this point...but I wanted to give the full layout of my experience before, during, and after smoking cancer sticks. Good luck to you, and to anyone else choosing to give up the smoking. It's tough, but once you find an e-cig and a flavor you can stick with...you'll never go back.

Been smoking 15 years but haven't developed any smoker's cough, wheezing or exhaling. I have no idea why. Half a pack/day smoker. I've been a solid distance runner the entire time without much issue. Can't really explain it. BUT, I do notice that awful build up and feeling after not smoking for a few days as the lungs purge. Can't wait to experience it when I switch full time to my new ecig :). It'll be the most glorious and crappy feeling all in one, lol.

WCSR, my story is similar to yours. I have always been a heavy smoker 2 or 3 pad (about 15yrs ago) for mmm...33 yrs? My mother smoked when I was conceived, all through her pregnancy, all of my life (then was shocked when I started smoking). So, it's not a stretch to say I've smoked all my 48 years. Mom died from lung cancer 11 years ago. I was so sad....yet I continue to smoke. I'm finding it's harder to find jobs that allow smoking anywhere on their property...and that's a seemingly silly reason NOT to submit a resume, but....gotta have those cigs! Most of my friends plead and bully me to quit smoking...and I dig my heels in...and smoke more (as if to say, "So THERE...Hmph"!).
I tried vaping 2 yrs ago and enjoyed it, but...well...things happened and I just went back to full-time smoking. I have had god-awful post-nasal drip, a phlegmy cough (not constant, but yucky gross), and heart burn for years. Prilosec saved me there, but I've taken it every day for years...not 2 weeks at a time, as recommended.
Now, this month, I have gone back to vaping. I am down to about 8 cigs a day vs. 40. Even though I have not fully quit, I do see big changes. I have forgotten to take my Prilosec for 3 days now.....I don't seem to need it! (Trust me, I ALWAYS got burpy reminders if I fogot it in the past) My skin tone seems pinker, I have lots more energy...and my fingers aren't yellow! I am having some coughing, but I never had a smoker's hack...just the yucky phlegm. The post-nasal drip isn't as bad, and it's even better if I drink enough water.
I'd say, regardless of what skeptics may think, this is a better nicotine delivery sytem for me (almost got fired for cussing my boss when I tried Chantix...lol).
Vape On!!!

Dude... I completely understand your views on taking employment with smoke-free workplaces. As I just stated in another thread, I still support smokers' rights, and their ability to do as they please in an outdoor area. Most companies are going smoke-free because it decreases their healthcare/insurance costs....but the employee doesn't see that savings on their end. At the last smoke-free place I worked...I smoked in my truck, even though it wasn't allowed. I'd be damned if someone was going to tell me I couldn't smoke in my own vehicle. I was a contractor at that, and not a part of their healthcare/insurance program. Even as an ex-smoker...I still think that's BS.

As for digging my heals in at the constant pressure to quit smoking (stop smoking ads, smoke-free work places, friends, etc.). I did it to, and I'd do it again. It's MY right to do with my body as I please. Same goes for seatbelt laws in my opinion. It's my body, if I choose to let it die slowly or quickly...it's my business.

With that said... I'm glad to know that you're taking the step to quit, BY YOUR OWN CHOICE. You know the effects of smoking, you know the benefits of quitting. You know what's right for you. Good luck, my friend. Hopefully that heartburn stays away. Safe to say I'd rather be kicked in the nuts than to get another bout with that crap.

Smokers cough is long gone I never had bronchitis, but I still whizz regularly :)

Glad to know you still whizz regularly. If not, THAT would be a health concern. lol

And some of these anti-smoking laws really have gone too far. Shortly after I moved from Maryland (1993) they made a law that stated smoking was not allowed in the workplace...period. That ALSO means, if I call for a plumber, I am not allowed to smoke in my home while the plumber is there because my house has become his workplace!!! WTF??? I pay the mortgage, rent...whatever! I would call and ask for a smoking plumber!
I also...with my own eyes and ears...saw a woman INSIDE a restaurant ask the manager to tell someone OUTSIDE to put their cig out because it was disgusting to see...and HE DID IT!!! Smoking outside at restaurants was allowed at the time! People just kill me....

Once I started vaping exclusively the morning hacking went away within a couple weeks, on the other hand I felt under the weather for those two weeks as well. Probably because my body was adjusting to not taking all the crap in from analogs and cleansing. after that i felt real good! I work in the trades myself and constantly have to climb stairs and perform tasks that require a fair amount of endurance and stamina. Needless to say when i was still smoking analogs i would be almost gasping for air but now i am pretty good for lung capacity and these tasks do not affect me nearly as much as they did when i was still smoking analogs. So in conclusion, Vaping good, smoking bad.

I agree. The stop smoking legislation has indeed gone too far. As much as I'd like to see everyone take the right steps and quit, it is more important for me to know that we still live in a country in which we are able to make our own decisions...as long as it doesn't effect the health of others. I could care less if I offend someone though. In fact, once I know someone's offended with something ridiculous, I go out of my way to make sure I do it even more.

I ran into a LOT of crap for smoking when I was in California. L.A. at that....the city known for it's heavy smog.
