"Vaping for Dummies" .....?

Is there a webpage or a really good FAQ somewhere that i'm missing?

I'm currently using a MVP 20W as a battery (I read a good recommendation on the forum) and some kind of Kanger mini. I forget which one, a B and M shop sold to me but I would love to know more about the wonderful world of Mods and tanks and everything else. Like i don't know much about coils. I don't know when I need to replace or what to get, etc. Also my battery I can adjust the wattage/voltage and so far I've been guessing on what to keep them yet. The more vapor the better but I don't want the harsh taste of course.

After buying various ecigs off and on over the past 5 years, this battery/minitank combo is doing awesome and I've gone the longest off analogs (5 weeks) than I have in my 20 year smoking history. I want to keep it that way. I'm all in on vaping.

I want to know more and more but I don't know where to start.

Go out to Utube and watch some video reviews on the products you bought. That will give you a basis for starting a conversation on anything you don't understand. PBusardo, GrimmGreen, Suck my Mod, all have reviewed the products you purchased.

Also on UTube you can search for "Vaping for Dummies" and you will find lots of videos on that as well.

The easy way is to come here, or over to "General Vaping," and ask questions. You've got a good mod in that MVP already, but I am not sure which one you have because there are three. The 2.0, the 3.0 and the 3.0 pro. Telling us would be a start; then we could help you set it. Same same on the tank; it's not easy to advise you if we don't know what you've got. If you can't figure it out, take a picture and post it here. We might be able to figure it out from there. As for more vapor, in general the more wattage, the lower coil rating and the higher percentage of VG in your juice makes cloud. You will know when to replace the coil. It will either stop working, either because it's plugged up and won't wick or you burnt the coil out, or it will taste burned because the wick is burnt. No need to replace a coil until this happens. A plugged up one can sometimes be "rescued" by soaking it overnight in PGA (pure grain alcohol, like Everclear) and then rinsing it well in hot water and letting it dry on a paper towel. To start, set your mod in VW or variable wattage mode, and start low, increasing the power in small steps until you either get the vape you want-- stop there, of course-- or the juice starts to taste burnt, in which case you should back off a notch or two. If you have a box of spare coils, telling us what the box says might help us figure out what tank you have. So go get us a pic, and come back

I almost think your starting point should be figuring out what seems to be missing from your current setup. In other words, is the battery life and vape somehow lacking. Is it convenient to use, and are you prepared to start wrapping your own coils?

Pbusardo on youtube is where I'd recommend. If you go to his main page, the first video that pops up is his beginners guide to e-cigs (some of the tech may be a little out of date, but concepts still do apply).

His product reviews are by far the most in-depth of any e-cig reviewer.

Sounds like your about where I started back in January. The first thing I did was find juice that worked which is what finnaly got me to quit for good. Then I spent about a month or 2 mostly lurking around here until I finally had a question I couldn't find an answer to. Like others have said, figure out what more you would like and that would point you in the direction you need to go. I decided that I needed a bigger tank and a battery that lasted even longer so I picked up a Kanger Subtank and an MVP 3.0 since my MVP 20W had worked so well. The Subtank turned out to be huge, that's the problem with buying online when you haven't seen it in the wild yet, but I liked it so I got a couple of Subtank Mini's that fit my batteries a little better. That was good for the next few months until I began to look at what I was spending on coils. I didn't have much luck getting a cotton wick to work in the rebuildable deck with my minis and continued to burn through the coils until I found a couple of complete REO's for sale in the Classified section. Spent the week I was waiting for them to arrive learning how to make them work and gathering supplies. Thanks to a thread I started when I set down to build coils for the first one I had them up and running the next day. I have managed to cut the daily bill and with RxW (ready x wick) I can go a few weeks without doing much more than changing batteries and adding juice. Unfortunately that hasn't stopped me from collecting a few spare toppers for them as well as a stockpile of juice, but I'm still ahead of what I would have spent on smokes so it's not a real big deal.

OP has the 20W, which came out after 2.0 and before the 3.0.

All of the posts allude to reading/watching. I get on here most days and read. I have two Taifun GT2s and two SubTank minis coming, so I am studying. If it is a good reference, like a user guide. I save it.

Anyway, reading, searching, asking specific questions will help a lot. I bet if you go to YouTube and search MVP20, you will get a review. Write down questions.



The "some kind of Kanger mini", well, a picture would help us help you.

Also plan on picking up a spare mod and tank. Back up for backups of your backups. If one fails or is charging you have a 2nd one to stave off the cravings.

I know I'm running a MVP20W 2.0 (the one reviewed in the video above) and a Kanger Mini Protank2.

I know I want to pick up a subohm box / subtank. I had no clue about ohm's before. I'm trying to find the best deal on a bundle. I'm enjoying the research but I will gladly take some recommendations on websites/box/mods.etc.

I need to do more research on coils. I don't know much yet.

On the Mini Protank 2.

Single Coil replaceable head ranging from 1.5ohms (hottest) to 2.5ohm (coolest), average lifespan of a coil 3days (1.5ohm at highest wattage/voltage output) to 1.5 weeks (2.5ohm coil at moderate wattage/voltage ie 7 to 8 watts). Sweeter, thicker, and darker your liquid will reduce life of the coil as these will caramelize and crystalize in the wicks faster, taking on average about a day to day and a half off the coils life. I used Protanks a lot my first year full time vaping, good way to extend the coil life and general maintenance is as stated above soaking in cheap unflavored vodka or everclear and let air dry, and get into a rotation cycle on coil heads every two to three tank fills, one set in service, one set in soak and dry cycle.

The MVP has been a solid performing unit for myself and many others. A step up as an alternate would be the MVP 3.0 (30watts max) or the MVP 3.0 Pro (60watts max), keeping the 20W as a back up. Other good mid-range mods you can look at are the Eleaf iStick 30 and 50 watt mods, Innokin Coolfire IV as stated above, and the Sigelei Mini (30watts), Coolfire and Sigelei Mini both require at least 2 external batteries (18650) and at least a 2bay charger as they don't have internal batteries like the MVP and iSticks. Benefit is with the external batteries, one can be charging on the external charger while the second is in service in your mod, you just remove the battery, put on charger, put fresh charged battery into the mod, replace battery cover, turn on and go on with your vape business.

Tanks, a step up from the Protank Mini2 would be the Nautilus Mini or Full size Nautilus by Aspire, Kanger Subtank Nano or Mini, or you can watch Indoor Smokers on Youtube's best in class for 2014 and 2015 video on tanks.

Batteries if you go for a Coolfire IV or Sigelei Mini, LG HE2/HE4, Samsung 25R, XTar XT-VTC4, and the Sony VTC4 itself, good charger, minimum you would need would be the Nitecore i2 or D2, Efest LUC 2bay, or Xtar VP1 or WP211

TeamSwish, if you are deciding to get another as a back-up and for some growth, well, your MVP20w would be the back-up.

I would look for a mod with a DNA or Yihi chip. The part that manages the power, etc. They are competitors and both respected. When you set it at 12 watts, you will get 12watts going to the coil each time. They also have safety features, etc.

Just keep those two in mind.

Also, the previous post (just above) has a LOT of info in it. I would consider copy/pasting it to a document. I do that all the time.

It seems like lately that the flavor and cloud has been decreasing from when I first started. It's been running pretty much nonstop for about 5-6 weeks. I'm not sure if it's the coil or the juice or if i need to clean the connectors or something. Or if I have the wattage/voltage at "bad" levels. I dislike being stuck at work so I can't mess around with it.

I love my Istick30 and my nautilus mini is pretty good with it. WORLDofVAPE - Best Vape - Best Price has a sale on the Istick 30 full kit I got mine there. I'm not into du ohms I'm what they call here a toodle puffer I think lol not a cloud chaser a flavor chaser

Is there a reason I'd want more watts? I'm debating if it's worth spending more on the 50.

1) the 50watt has a larger battery capacity, 4400mah, which can equate out to longer spells between recharges
2) if you go with one of the tanks like the Subtank using the .5ohm or lower coils, the extra 20watts gives more vapor and such, especially for tanks like the Atlantis or Arctic's 0.3ohm coil head.

read more about the 50 before buying one ... there have been serious issues with them.

IMO, they are not safe.
