Vaping in public places?

Hi all,
I'm pretty new to the whole vaping thing, but I'm really enjoying the experience so far, can't see me goin back to analogues at this rate!
At the minute I'm only vaping in my house or outdoors. I'm a bit nervous to do it indoors in cafes, bars etc as people will probably think I'm smoking and cause a fuss!
Was wondering what your guy's experience of vaping in public places was?

There have easily been about 1000 threads on this subject. Just do a search.

But many of us vape openly, but respectfully just about anywhere. I've vaped in resturants, courthouses, sports bars, stores, office buildings, etc. The one place I don't vape is in smoking areas. I don't ever want to provide the perception to the uninformed that vaping and smoking are the same thing which is exactly what we do if we vape as if it is the same as smoking. I have gotten more positive reactions this way and had hundreds of conversations with the uninformed about what vaping is and is not and that it is safe for those near by. I've also given out many of my little made-up cards, when requested, by someone wanting to help a friend or loved one stop smoking by vaping openly in these areas.

Just educate yourself on the benefits and safer aspects of vaping so you can help educate the uninformed or misinformed if necessary. Go to CASAA and join and you will have a wealth of information to share.

As its illegal to smoke in any public buildings in England I think I'll just have to stick with going outside!

I don't vape in public places either. Don't want to draw unwanted attention or scrutiny. I was so used to being shunned and vilified as a smoker that it just carried over to vaping. There will always be somebody who doesn't "get it" and feel the need to say something. No thanks, I'll just wait 'til I get outside or back in the car.

I am in the uk too, I use a small cig like when out and about and stealth vape. Take a half drag, hold it, then breath in air upto a full breath, hold it and then exhale slowly, no visible vapour.

I still get nervous also vaping in public places or even at friends houses. I haven't so much in cafes, bars, ect. but out here in Texas there are businesses that are slowly adding "No Vaping" to their "No Smoking" signs. I find this to be due to a lack of education on what vaping really is. I think as vaping becomes more and more popular businesses could possibly continue to not allow vaping just as if it were smoking.

It is illegal to smoke in public establishments, here. I vape in these same establishments. I do it with consideration. I do not make it obvious. I do it discreetly, so as to not cause any confusion, discomfort or alarm.

Follow these steps and you, too, can vape anywhere. Be prepared with educated responses to inquiry, so that if someone is curious you can disarm any scrutiny.

It's illegal to smoke or vape in any public building here in Utah thanks to those that thought it was OK to vape when & where they wanted. It's safe to say that they ticked off the wrong folks by doing so. Respect for others can go a long ways, but I assure you that disrespect will go even farther. Even outdoors, I find it really easy to make sure that I'm downwind of others when I want to vape.

I applaud your decision to just step outside when you want to vape.

You'll get over vaping outside soon, just be polite and ask if it's ok to vape inside an establishment.

Welcome to the forum Tacklebury. The search function is not really that useful for most things - so no worries on posting something that has already been discussed.
In the UK, some people have said that it's better to just be completely open and ask the owner / manager / landlord directly - hold up your PV and say hey, do you mind if I don't smoke.
The worst that can happen is they will know exactly what it is and say nope. You'll often find though that they will be curious to see what it is, and at the least you can start a conversation about vaping and educate a few people about it. They might still say no, but at least you tried.

I tend to be very respectful of where I vape and who I vape around. I don't want to piss people off, and I certainly want people to think that vapers are good people that consider others. I might take it too far, but I don't want business owners to ban vapers because I was an ... about my 'legal rights to vape'

I tend not to stealth vape - either I am vaping openly, or I am not vaping - but that is just my opinion.
